Re: The Starting Pitching Trade Candidates

The idea that we'd even think about giving anything up for relievers confuses the hell out of me Davis, CJ, Uehara, Strop, Rondon What exactly needs upgrading All true. Just trying to come up with a reason and it might be because of the unknown. After we got Chapman last season we seemed locked dow...

Re: JD Martinez to the DBacks

Now that the Tigers are trading, we will have Avilis as our backup catcher soon.

Re: Random In-season Musings and Rumors

What would it take to get Britton 1 of Almora or Happ and Jeimer (potential Machado replacement) and some minor league fodder? I've seen Almora and Happ posted several times like they are in the same tier. I think Happ is for sure a tier above Almora. I'd give up Albert as the headliner for Britton...

Re: Random In-season Musings and Rumors

Britton seems to go against the way they view pitchers and health.

ETA: although they might view his ailments as a non-issue like they did Wade.

What should make him jealous way more than Eloy is the fact that we won the flipping World Series last year.

Re: Cubs trade Eloy, Cease, others for Quintana

So Arrieta and Lackey make about $31m this year and will be off the books. Quintana will make ~10m a year each of the next 3 years. Obviously we'd still need to fill a rotation spot but thats $21m in surplus funds for.....Harper? Where's the other 24m? Begging Heyward to be a good ex-teammate by op...

The Cubs can always rebuild their system by trading Wade Davis now.

I know this is a joke, but if they happen to fall out of the race, he actually will help to rebuild it.

Re: Cubs trade Eloy, Cease, others for Quintana

Eloy likely was always going to get traded, either now or in the offseason. We needed to get a good pitcher under control at quality prices because there was no way we were going to give big money and years to two pitchers in the same year with Lester still on the books. Plus, I'd rather give the bi...

Re: The Starting Pitching Trade Candidates

I feel like two different discussions are going on right here.

If the Cubs are four out in the loss column on July 31, they aren't trading Davis.

If the Cubs are eight or more out in the loss column on July 31, they sure as hell better trade Davis.

Re: The Starting Pitching Trade Candidates

i don't doubt that they would reeeeeallly like to avoid large contracts for relievers, but i think the pitching situation is in such peril that they almost don't have much of a choice. they went with the all hitter approach to building the team, which is great, but it also meant they'd likely be in...

Re: The Starting Pitching Trade Candidates

They are not going to trade Davis because they're 4 losses behind the Brewers at the all star break. I also don't really think they want to extend Davis. They paid a decent player cost for the right to pay Davis 10 million so clearly they aren't above having money invested in the bullpen, but they ...

Re: The Starting Pitching Trade Candidates

they play the same position, so carl will still be in carl's spot he traded big assets for short term control of 2 different relievers recently. if he values elite relievers that much, i'd think any unease from a longer term version would be outweighed by the abundance of current payroll flexibilit...

Re: The Starting Pitching Trade Candidates

based on what information we have as fans, i am firmly on team NO TRADE. i think our situation makes signing him this offseason a necessity, and i wouldn't want to potentially reduce the chances of that happening. also, this may be trivial, but i'd worry about another team doing to him what we did ...

Re: The Starting Pitching Trade Candidates

Man, I'm really going to have to trust you guys if we end up giving Eloy in a package for Gausman, who appears to have somehow figured out a way to perhaps be worse than Lackey this year. A 6.07 ERA? A 5.20 FIP? 117 hits allowed in 86 innings and a WHIP that is dangerously close to 2? I acknowledge ...

Fascinating business decision by Miggy. Be a member of the most popular Cubs team ever, be part of perhaps the greatest and most famous championship team in baseball history while coming up with some big hits during that run. Then over the course of the next eight months, publicly be a dick to manag...

This reminds me of when that one weirdo was right about something two months after he predicted it in 2015, but I can't remember what it was. Coghlan playing 2b? Wasn't the weirdo "sontensei" or something? His breaking point was when he made homophobic slurs in a late August game thread a...

Re: The Starting Pitching Trade Candidates

Wily Peralta continues to really struggle for the Brewers, has been moved to the pen for a few weeks now, I still really like him as a buy low guy if he gets DFA'd or they look to trade him for pennies on the dollar. I think there could be an elite relief pitcher in there if not a middle rotation s...

Re: The Starting Pitching Trade Candidates

I'd do it just because it seems less risky to spend big money on an offensive player in free agency than a pitcher who might break down soon after signing a seven-year, $200 million contract.

Trade Eloy and sign Harper to take his place.
