Re: 80 game season with expanded playoffs, starting in July

I actually am with the owners in just one very specific respect - I don't see the draw in trying to cram in 114 games and extending the regular season another month past when it usually ends. Hopefully it lands in the 75-80 range with the full prorated salaries. I think they have all but admitted t...

Re: Movie Thread 2: The Sequel

Yeah, Uncut Gems... anybody see that coming? I was personally floored. Who would have guessed that the Joker's greatest crime would turn out to be shamelessly stealing Adam Sandler's Oscar? The Oscar he wasn’t even nominated for? Yeah, I liked the movie and thought Sandler was good but certainly do...

It's not really a "story" movie though, so that makes sense.

Unlikely-mlb-players-who-owned-hall-of-famers Mlb.com had the above article published today and couldn't help but think former Cub Gary Woods deserved a mention. Woods batted .348 (16-for-46) lifetime against Hall of Fame left-hander Steve Carlton. Woods was a career back-up but whenever Carlton wa...

Re: General Cubs Chit-Chat

Latest Forbes report says Cubs are worth $3.2 Billion, not a bad return on spending $845 million in 2009. So why did we have to sit out this offseason free agency? There are many ways to answer your question, but the $3.2B figure isn't the best. It's not a "return," it's a valuation. A si...

as for mutations, selective pressure will always push it to become more virulent and less deadly . hospitalizing someone, or killing someone, or even making someone feel so bad that they have to stay at home is a poor method of spreading. and the strains that spread the best will win out in the end...

30 Rock is another great one to binge over again if you haven't yet. Easily my favorite sitcom of the new millennium. I've been trying to convince my girlfriend to start Cheers with me. I've seen most of it, she hasn't seen any of it. I try and tell her it's one of, if not the best, sitcoms of all ...

Trump to states, "you're on your own" with respect to medical equipment. What a leader. not sure if this is what you're referring to or not...i hate the unmitigated disaster that is the trump administration, but that headline going around is a sensationalist approach, to say the least. ht...

Which has what to do with the price of ginseng in Wisconsin? It seems pretty obvious but okay. Workers in many (most?) industries are dramatically underpaid while in training for the positions that they are hoping to attain. In fact in many instances those positions are entirely unpaid. Ergo this i...

Imagine getting drafted to the highest level of anything and being told you will start off making the same amount as someone who makes $10/hour. Unpaid internships are a fairly common thing. , I'd rather keep it as is with the strategy that comes with it. Why do people keep pretending there is strategy involved here? Because there is? If you're the first pitcher to face them don't you have to drill him with the first pitch and then just shrug your shoulders and say "Well I just assumed they'd have a sign for inside heat, my bad."
