Re: The Politics Thread

every time someone says "but progressive policies are popular! they've won elections!" they neglect the fact that the true progressives are winning very specific races in very specific locations. it's not exactly a path to victory on a national level right now or otherwise we'd be looking...

Re: The Politics Thread

I think it’s at least possible the Republican turnout was a referendum on covid restrictions, which won’t be an issue by 2022 (godwilling) Ooooooooooooof. OK, now it makes a little more sense why you're dishing these takes out. Meanwhile the Republicans are dumping mountains of money into Georgia t...

Re: The Politics Thread

Until recently, I had harbored some hope that the GOP might dump Trump once he became a loser. But continuing to see Republican "leadership" go all-in defending him during the midst of his massive attack on the rule of law... It seems they've done their calculations and figure they need t...

They're doing it again, hyping up a legislative hearing in Pennsylvania on voter fraud tomorrow.... it's actually Pennsylvania Republicans meeting with Rudy and maybe Trump at a Wyndham hotel in freaking Gettysburg. Re: The Politics Thread

Yeah, that's why I said it would be nothing more than an Overton issue. At best, I think MAYBE we could wind up creating some concrete rules for what kind of political statements and actions a tax-exempt church could do and still maintain their tax-exemption...not to mention all of the hucksters ou...

Re: The Politics Thread

he called a press conference to gloat about the stock market the day after Biden's transition was officially given the green light https://twitter.com/therecount/status/1331292497495134211 Well, of course, he was going to take credit for markets, could've seen that coming from a million miles away.

Re: The Politics Thread

So the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops is contemplating banning Biden from being able to receiving Holy Communion. Organized religion is such a joke. Rather ironic the most corrupt of all organized religions is singling someone out as the beneficiary of corruption. How Christian of them, don't ...

Re: The Politics Thread

Now that the transition has begun, the Biden team will start to learn about all of the disasters that HAVEN’T been made public. I can’t imagine what a mess they are inheriting. I'll willing to bet he stumbled upon a few people here and there who did not let their departments, etc. become hot messes.

Re: The Politics Thread

While many of us would like to see Trump et al pay for their crimes something good may come of it in the form of more checks and balances on the executive branch. With a favorable Senate, I've no doubt we'll see legislation passed to address some the issues Trump' administration revealed. This time ...

I know it's probably best for the future of the country if he faces real consequences for all the horsefeathers he pulled, but given that, as mentioned above, it's going to be just plea deals and endless appeals, personally I'd rather everyone in the media just collectively agree to ignore him. I want to see State prosecutors / police waiting for Trump when he leaves the White House grounds. They should make it as big a spectacle as possible. It won't be a spectacle.
