Re: 2019 Draft Thread

I watched a lot of Campbell last year and his fastball command was not good. Always possible that he changed something up and has improved there, but I really don't like those types if it can be avoided. He’s at 4 walks, no HRs, and 23 hits allowed in 30+ innings this year and 44 Ks. That suggests ...

Re: 2019 Draft Thread

https://twitter.com/soxmachine_josh/status/1106724150402523136?s=20 That’s Isaiah Campbell, the college RH I mentioned a couple posts up, throwing an 85 MPH changeup. I like him as a multi-inning reliever type more than a pure SP, but that’s not really a knock. 21 YO senior I watched a lot of Campb...

Re: Minor League Musings

Isn't the rule change basically going back to the way it was done before? I could swear I remember a bunch of two sport athletes getting mlb contracts in the past. Not only 2 sport guys, but draft prospects in general started getting mlb contracts right out of the chute. They best ones were demandi...

Re: Minor League Musings

Kyler Murray chooses football (or at least is making a public show of it). A's really effed that one up. We all knew they messed up. It was super high-risk/high-reward and they got burned. I think you could defend the selection at the end of the 1st round, but not with the #9 pick in last year's ML...

Re: BA, BP & Fangraphs Cubs' Top Prospects List

Some of it may be deference to this FO's success in drafting 1st round college bats, but I don't recall any other recently drafted players taken in the range of Nico that debuted in the top 100 of a national publication the next year . I mean, Ian Happ was taken 9th overall in 2015 and was only ran...

Re: Minor League Musings

Tom, I still haven’t seen confirmation that Estrada had surgery. If he did have surgery on the elbow, it wasn't TJS. He's participating down in Mesa right now, and I think he was throwing on the backfields as late as June last year before being shut down (perhaps later, but that's the latest I can ...

Re: Minor League Musings

Hoerner isn’t quite as advanced as previous college draft picks the Cubs have made, but he’s moving quicker than many expected. Despite making just 17 plate appearances at Low-A South Bend before having his season cut short, there’s a good chance he’ll start the season in High-A Myrtle Beach , wher...

Damn, he’s a big dude (in a good way) already for a 18-19 year old. Looks like he can still add some decent, good weight to his frame too. https://twitter.com/jasonpennini/status/1087408866755637249?s=21 Whoa. Dude has been in the gym this offseason! Also, Kyler Murray somehow ranked at 101.

Yeah, I wouldn't put him that high, but as the 14th pick in the draft and a guy that received a large overslot bonus, I get it.

MLB.com listed the hardest thrower in each system and picked Marquez: Cubs: Brailyn Marquez, LHP, (Cubs No. 4) Marquez's $600,000 bonus represented the most money given to a left-handed pitcher during the 2015-16 international signing period, and the Dominican has since emerged as one of the Cubs' ...

After the great Chatwood debacle I’ll never truly trust spin rate meaning much or that we as an org know how to make it work and translate it to on field success like the Astros certainly are. But cool to see with one of our prospects grading so well against big leaguers, I guess. https://twitter.c...
