He is the best player in the NL, just so we're clear.

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 4-20-18

At I-Cubs game. Alzolay 94-96 mph in first inning. Got a few weak swings at a mid 80s curve. I'm intrigued.

Look at that, Bryant has a literal .500 OBP in 42 plate appearances

Re: Things are looking Grimm for Justin

I guess I'm mildly interested to see Butler as a reliever full time. Maybe he can consistently sit 96 mph or something. I'd assume he's pretty much locked into the last bullpen spot. My guess is if Strop is ready on opening day, we go with 8 relievers; if he's on the DL, Bourjos or Zagunis take his ...

Hasn't Brady won most of his super bowls while watching the deciding play from the sidelines at the end of the game?

lol, it cracks me up how many interviews/quotes Gimenez has given since he signed his minor league deal. Dude is very self-aware.

The Ohtani decision seems like a lifetime ago, and like two free agents have signed since then.

Re: Cubs Offseason Rumors

If you can lock in Darvish+Yelich right now, I say just do it even if it does take you out of the Harper sweepstakes (which it might not). With the amount of effort the Nats, Yankees, and Dodgers will put into Bryce, I'm fine not taking his free agency into account when going after talents like Darv...

Re: THE Bryce Harper in 2018 Thread

I was just thinking that if we sign Darvish and need to shed some money to go after Harper (aka avoid having a $245 million payroll), Chatwood could be a decent trade candidate next offseason. I think they pretty clearly weren't expecting to sign Darvish when they got Chatwood, and I'll be surprised...

Re: THE Bryce Harper in 2018 Thread

Isn't the real fear "What if we can't re-sign Kris Bryant?" Like right now I doubt anyone is too concerned about losing Russell or Schwarber if we get Harper. And yeah, it's probably worth it considering we'd have the two best players in the NL together for three years, but it's worth bri...

Re: THE Bryce Harper in 2018 Thread

I wouldn't read too much into the rhetoric about letting things play out until after 2018. If I recall correctly, there was similar talk about letting Strasburg hit FA before they revisited. The Nationals front office, though, to put it bluntly ... they aren't the Orioles front office. I'd love Har...

Re: Winter Meetings 2017 thread

Wonder what the heck is going on with Cobb. Signing him and using some of the trade pieces to get Yelich might be my favorite route at the moment. Their ownership and FO might not give a damn about the perception, but getting Happ as the lead piece, as opposed to an all-prospect return, and being ab...

Re: Cubs Close to Signing Morrow for 2 Years + Option

Even though seemingly everyone who has sources is saying Cobb will come here, I am a bit surprised it hasn't actually happened yet. Like either he's really not going to give a Hickey discount and is looking for top dollar, or the Cubs are still talking trade.

Re: The Alex Cobb Thread

Yeah I like Chatwood and Cobb enough individually, but together I'm not totally enthused. Neither have any sort of track record of durability and neither will be that cheap. Plus, with Lester exiting his prime, I was hoping for a little more than locking into Chatwood AND Cobb for 3+ years. On the o...

Re: The Cubs are a Finalist for Shohei Ohtani

Another thing I've been thinking about with him is that we seem to have a big advantage with his living situations. If he's really that big of a homebody and just doesn't like doing things but play baseball, playing for us allows him to literally live within 3-10 blocks of the stadium (so doesn't n...
