Re: The Starting Pitching Trade Candidates

I've got my eye on Verlander now. The numbers aren't very good this season, but his velo is up from his great 2016 (or are those readings still screwy?), so you'd hope maybe a trip to the NL and back to a contender would help him return to form. The money and prospects involved could vary a lot, but...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 6-18-17

Went to the Iowa game today. There were a lot of good AB's including a Candelario dong.

My biggest takeaway though is Soler is still very handsome and still very bad. He had 3 pretty terrible strikeouts on sliders way out of the zone.

Re: The Starting Pitching Trade Candidates

When it comes to trading for a controllable TOR pitcher, I'm still at the point where I won't believe it until I see it. Someone like Estrada could be had without including Eloy or Happ and would likely be as good as any pitcher who gets dealt at the deadline at preventing runs for the remainder of...

Re: Eddie Butler Starting Friday

He has 52 strikeouts in his last 119 innings in AAA. It's not like his GB rate is that high this year either. I just don't see a scenario where he's an above average major league starter. I'd be interested to see him out of the pen probably, but this move doesn't excite me a whole lot. I'm definitel...

Re: Random In-season Musings and Rumors

So how naive am I if I believe Hahn when he says he'd deal Quintana to the Cubs if it's the best offer?

Re: Random In-season Musings and Rumors

I'm basically penciling in a Candelario for Marco Estrada swap sometime in June.

I'd love a Archer/Quintana/Stroman, but in the end I don't see Theo paying the price.

Re: Random In-season Musings and Rumors

So the Blue Jays keep losing and Donaldson keeps hurting his calf. Their 3B depth chart is currently 1) Darwin Barney 2)Chris Coghlan, and their first baseman (Justin Smoak) also sucks. I wonder if they have interest in Candelario and what type of value he has. They're last in the MLB in runs and ha...

Obviously not a scout but still a good sign. Also looks like Butler is pitching well as far as not giving up runs. Still can't strik...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 4-14-17

lol, I was at the Iowa game and didn't even realize they got no-hit. Incredibly boring game. I will say, I thought Happ made three good throws from RF. Two to home that kept the runners at third and one to third base that was on target but I think hit the baserunner in the back to get an error. His ...

hahahaha, I was randomly looking at depth charts and saw the Padres rotation. Their 1-3 on their official mlb.com page is Jhoulys Chacin, Clayton Richard, and Jared Weaver.

Re: Baez impresses Baez

So I'm pretty convinced Javy is better than Heyward, not to mention the centerfielders. I mean it'll all work itself out, but I don't know how you keep him out of the lineup with the amount of groundballs in our starting rotation.

At this rate, Heyward's "mental break" time off might need to be in spring training this year instead of August.

Damn that was a short offseason. Love it. I've been pretty antsy for it to start for a while, but still, that was quick. Let's keep these deep playoff runs going.

Re: Random Offseason Musings and Rumors

I'd be stunned if Heyward used either opt out at this point; I think he'd basically have to play at an MVP level these next few years. Supposedly a lot of teams had concerns about him, and that was before he put up a .600 OPS in a prime season. He'd be wise to stay put I think.

Re: Brett Anderson deal reached, pending physical

That's 7 starters, which can go up to 8 if we work out a small trade for Caleb Smith. If we can bring back Wood, I'd feel pretty comfortable with our depth, particularly given what appears to be our strong bullpen. I forget the rules; if we give the Yankees some compensation, Smith can start the se...
