Re: This is the thread where we talk about how awesome Kris Bryant is

I dont know about the RISP stuff, but the lack of power lately is directly tied to his pinky. While players are making adjustments in the offseason, our FO needs to as well and re-think how they utilize the damn 10 day DL for hand and wrists.

Re: Addison Russell

Gleyber Torres could throw a ball with more velocity across the diamond with his recently Tommy John'd left arm than Russell can with his right.

Re: Justin Wilson Cubs Rumors

I had forgotten Alex Avila's dad is the Tigers' GM. I was thinking he was just a placeholder after Dombrowski left and they had replaced him.

Re: Random In-season Musings and Rumors

Besides getting paid a ton of money to cheer on Ned Colletti's players, what, exactly, does Andrew Friedman do in LA?

Re: The Starting Pitching Trade Candidates

I've kind of already decided I don't want to see Hendricks start a playoff game this year should the Cubs make it. And I'm certainly not saying Lackey is the answer. Seems pretty shortsighted about a guy who was dynamite in the regular season and playoffs last year & had brief struggles to star...

It's best to just treat him like Soler at this point - accept that he sucks but appreciate the handsomeness.

Trout are easy for Dusty to catch, so it doesn't surprise me he'd fear Pujols more

Re: The Starting Pitching Trade Candidates

I mean the #1 reason to want Darvish, of course, is because he's a great arm that makes our rotation very, very scary again. But damn, the thought of Lackey pissing and moaning his way off the team sure is a close second

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 7-18-17

Was at the Iowa game. Maples didn't have to throw many pitches; I saw mostly 96-97, and the last pitch he threw was 99. Also buckled someone's knees on a 2 strike breaking ball. I think I was most impressed by how filthy Justin Hancock (the dude we got for Szczur) is. He was also 96-97 with a very g...

Re: The Starting Pitching Trade Candidates

I'm probably giving Kap (and Muskat) too much credit here, but I wonder if this is a Muskat-Brett Jackson-Kershaw type thing where she might have heard something was happening but jumped the gun and looked really stupid.

Yeah, I'm giving him too much credit.

Re: Cubs trade Eloy, Cease, others for Quintana

Huh, I thought Eloy was putting up better numbers than he is. I mean I'm not going to pretend like he's not an awesome prospect but with the groundball issues that have been mentioned, and I always thought it was weird how much more LF he's played than RF in his career, this deal feels pretty sweet.

Mike Rizzo would probably be willing to trade his own right arm for a package of Davis and Uehara.

Re: The Starting Pitching Trade Candidates

That would be my ideal scenario. I'd rather bet on Verlander bouncing back (since his stuff hasn't diminished at all) while holding onto Eloy, over trading Eloy for Gray. Maybe Verlander's terrible numbers in his age 34 season should scare me more, but man his stuff is still electric.

Re: The Starting Pitching Trade Candidates

I've got my eye on Verlander now. The numbers aren't very good this season, but his velo is up from his great 2016 (or are those readings still screwy?), so you'd hope maybe a trip to the NL and back to a contender would help him return to form. The money and prospects involved could vary a lot, but...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 6-18-17

Went to the Iowa game today. There were a lot of good AB's including a Candelario dong.

My biggest takeaway though is Soler is still very handsome and still very bad. He had 3 pretty terrible strikeouts on sliders way out of the zone.

Re: The Starting Pitching Trade Candidates

When it comes to trading for a controllable TOR pitcher, I'm still at the point where I won't believe it until I see it. Someone like Estrada could be had without including Eloy or Happ and would likely be as good as any pitcher who gets dealt at the deadline at preventing runs for the remainder of...

Re: Eddie Butler Starting Friday

He has 52 strikeouts in his last 119 innings in AAA. It's not like his GB rate is that high this year either. I just don't see a scenario where he's an above average major league starter. I'd be interested to see him out of the pen probably, but this move doesn't excite me a whole lot. I'm definitel...

So how naive am I if I believe Hahn when he says he'd deal Quintana to the Cubs if it's the best offer?
