Eloy pinch hit and walked. He's going to be really terrifying if he gets his BB/K stuff straightened out this year.

Re: The Starting Pitching Trade Candidates

Gotta think you could get something done with the Rays. Besides their already good staff on the MLB roster, this is their staff at AAA: Blake Snell Brent Honeywell Jose Deleon Jacob Faria Taylor Guerrieri They gotta trade some pitching, they just gotta. I forgot what/who I was listening to or readi...

The true visionaries are able to get 200 PAs of sub-.300 OBP from a guy in the lead-off spot, while wasting the same guy's .400 OBP over his next 200 PAs in the 8-spot.

Re: On Bended Knee - The Rizzo Thread

Duke, I was wondering if you could pin down what's changed either in Rizzo's approach vs LHP or in how LHP have attacked him these past couple seasons. Between 14 and 15 he basically posted a 400 wOBA against LHP. Last year that dropped to 360, and of course the sample is miniscule this season, but...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 5-23-17

I really don't have any expectations or high hopes on Duncan Robinson. He's the type of arm that, to me, has to prove it each step up the ladder, however fair or unfair that may be, as it was with Kyle Hendricks for me. That said ... a strike-throwing older college arm who, if the old reports still...

This is getting pretty funny. But it's actually been a big help with the rotation struggles and some extra-inning affairs and double headers.

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 5-22-17

I should mention that Pereda only reminds me of Willson because they look similar behind the plate. He definitely doesn't have that kind of athleticism and doesn't play with the same kind of passion, not to mention the differences with the bat.

I wish I could see Vlad Jr. some more, though. He's mesmerizing. And it's freaky how much he's like his dad. It's hard to wrap my mind around a Vladimir Guerrero clone that is patient at the plate.

I forgot to mention about the South Bend game I went to on Friday. Pereda was catching and he looked good behind the plate. He's got a lot of tools and some sneaky athleticism. He reminds me a little of Willson. He's got a freaking cannon. He threw behind a runner at second, and, though he didn't ge...

Zagunis started out the season slow (.474 OPS in first 12 games) but since 4/20 he's been real good. .318/.468/.600 with 6 HRs in 109 PAs. 18% BB vs 22% K .464 wOBA. I'm not sure how much to believe FG's MiLB batted ball stuff, but on the year he's sporting by far the highest fly ball rate of his c...

Re: Stats and Context

One of the things I still look for with pitchers (that started back in the Sunday sports section minor league reports days) was less hits than innings pitched (preferably a lot less), more than a K per inning and at least a 3-to-1 K to BB ratio. (That's changing a bit now, though, as the Cubs in pa...
