Re: 2020 Offseason Thread

^^ TBF I think they're trading from the ML roster before trading prospects, but also think Strumpf's more limited defensive game and Ks puts him firmly behind Hoerner still ----- More incentive to move Contreras once Realmuto signs or whenever someone bites: https://twitter.com/Buster_ESPN/status/13...

Re: 2020 Offseason Thread

https://www.mlb.com/news/prospects-who-could-be-traded Cubs: Chase Strumpf, 2B (No. 9) Middle infielder might be the strength of the organization and the Cubs are in seemingly perpetual need of pitching, so perhaps Strumpf could be part of a package for a starter. He's an offensive-minded second bas...

Re: 2020 Offseason Thread

Yeah and an NL team maybe being the favorite for McCann keeps all the best Contreras matches (Rays, Jays, Angels that I can I think of) on the table

Re: RE: Re: Non Tender Deadline Happenings

3rd in contact% among RP with 20 IP Only Devin Williams and Edwin Diaz were better. You just don't let that guy go like that IMO. See if he can sustain similarly over a larger sample. Even if he slips a bit he'd still be among the best. Get him in the zone more and he'd be a pretty valuable player....

Re: Non Tender Deadline Happenings

Why the hell did they NT Tepera. He looked like a nice cheap piece moving forward. Buying high on a MR, and not really the money just in general, is a bad bet. Also it's actually a pretty nice look and deed to take a DFA'd player, get him patched up and marketable again, and let him shop his servic...

Re: Non Tender Deadline Happenings

I'll believe a Schwarber NT when it's actually news, but man would that be gross

I would like the Cubs to sign Carlos Rodon, relatively much want actually...I'm impressed by the velocity rebound

Not sure how much I like posting this guy's stuff, like how he covered himself at the end

The twitter reactions to Schwarber being available are pretty funny...Phillies and Indians fans all over him among others

Re: Non Tender Deadline Happenings

Thought I had made a post here about Stock, guess not, but that's another move I like. Three pitch reliever who average 98 on a four seam that draws whiffs, popups, and groundballs...I'm optimistic about both he and Snelten, overall just like how they're going about building the pen under Kimbrel Ed...

Re: 2020 Offseason Thread

He hit fine in the minors. Never hit for power there and partly why I think 2019 likely wasn’t the real him. Also hits the ball on the ground a ton (50%+), which is problematic. Plus there just something watching him I don’t like on a subjective level. He’s a fine backup. I think a .240/.330/.350 t...

Re: 2020 Offseason Thread

https://twitter.com/JonHeyman/status/1334141464469757952?s=20 I assume this guy was on my list of MiL FAs the Cubs should be interested in: still young, RHH capable of playing all 3 OF spots, .361 OBP in the minors, made contact early on in the MWL but started trading it for power as he moved up wit...

Re: 2020 Offseason Thread

Rosario has a career .310 OBP, .305 in his last 772 PAs, to go with bad defense (edit: UZR likes him, Schwarber a little more in LF, but also DRS massively prefers Rosario) plus he's a year older than Schwarber. Seems like he's more a knockoff Schwarber who doesn't walk or hit as many HRs

Re: 2020 Offseason Thread

Or point out these stats to other teams (along with his contract status) and tell them to offer a Contreras-type package for Vic. Trading Caratini is of course an option, but in the history of sports what plays out more often: - a young, productive throughout backup takes a starting job when given ...

Re: 2020 Offseason Thread

On a less crazy note, just want to point out: Victor Caratini career numbers: 88 wRC+, 88.6 EV, 21.4% K rate Average ML catcher since 2015: 86 wRC+, 87.6 EV, 23.6% K rate Should note that his career EV is the same as Contreras but with a 2% lower K rate and from a switch hitter...I was trying to con...

Re: 2020 Offseason Thread

While diversity is certainly a goal, most executives are going to hire the "known" factor of success in the current crop of available candidates. This is especially true of teams that consider themselves contenders. While it's not great yet this is the most diverse group of qualified cand...

Re: 2020 Offseason Thread

I mean of the pitchers signed who should’ve gotten significantly more? It's less "these guys should have gotten way more" and more about how the league was able to reshape the optics in just a handful of signings extremely early into the offseason. It's a powerful tool to be able to reduc...

Re: 2020 Offseason Thread

Yeah, the owners have used the cover of a handful of deals over the years to hide how bad FA has gotten. This is no different, only instead of say Machado and Harper getting $300+ million, 2/$18 and 1/$11 is good enough. They're still going to reset records on MiL deals, split contracts, and non-gua...
