Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 7-21-19

Short hit HR #4 for Iowa, is hitting .279/.390/.515 with a 21% K rate through just 82 PAs there. His 21% K rate in 136 PAs this year remains a pro career best, still doing the defense/power/walks/flyballs thing

This man lived the dream: https://www.mlb.com/news/lee-smith-talks-career-sleep-saves-hall-of-fame-induction Man, there was nothing better than waking up with a three-run lead, dude,” Smith said. Maybe Smith was ahead of his time. Teams nowadays have recovery rooms, where they can sleep and rest bef...

Re: Trade targets 2019

Damn. For a 2.5 month rental, that’s pretty steep. Let’s hope it’s just Lange. The others can be used for a lefty bullpen arm. Tbf, Miller's just meat for rebuilding/tanking teams. Not a prospect I think we should stress about losing...Ademan and Lange have some real upside potential to develop but...

Re: Trade targets 2019

If it is Lange, what else would it cost for a rental like Castellanos? :shrugs: I can't imagine much to rent a corner bat. Maybe a couple DSL/AZLers? Zagunis or Short or Giambrone? Maybe someone from the Miller/Abbott/Richan/Thompson/Assad pool? Nothing but Lange would be sweet if this happens He’s...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 7-19-19

Jose Gutierrez randomly bumped up to two in the MB lineup for tonight's game, hit a line drive double and eventually scored. No clue what to make of this but he's been a playmaker for the Cubs' low level and SS teams going back to the DSL, switch hitting up the middle players and prospects are my cu...

Fun pitching matchup in Eugene with Jensen vs Ryne Nelson, another really hard throwing college arm in this past draft. Nelson, a former Duck, used to be the home pitcher at PK Park:

Re: Cubs sign Xavier Cedeno

Did they, though? I wouldn't be surprised if they did, but I don't recall that being one of their big talking points early on. They did, mostly McLeod IIRC. I don't know how big a talking point pitching has ever been beyond "we need more of it" but yeah, it's been talked about A list of t...

Re: Minor League Musings

Give me a couple of under-the-radar guys you like in the AZL Eric A Longenhagen: I put the Rangers guys on The Board. Heriberto Hernandez, Ovalles, Florentino. Keyber looks better Jorge Juan, big righty from Oakland, was 90-94 last time I saw him after he was 88-92 during extended. He’s a rare phys...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 7-17-19

Luis Vazquez in this NWL this July: .327/.390/.481 with a 17% K rate in 59 PAs Moreso on tools and a unique path than performance in his case, he's a guy I think has had a strong year so far. Vazquez basically seems like a guy who was supposed to spend two years in the AZL but his glove at SS got hi...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 7-16-19

Underwood's got a 47% GB rate as a reliever FWIW. Personally the most relevant thing about this um, development, is that the hope he develops some of his upside potential still exists 7 years in. Feels like every year, about this time early-mid summer too, this guy is being said to have turned the p...

Re: Trade targets 2019

Don't the Rangers and Willie Calhoun have a funny relationship that might make him attainable at a bargain? Calhoun was optioned again today, but his MiL numbers suggest a guy who might hit like Schwarber was hoped to minus some walks. He's at .298/.361/.510 with an 11% K rate in 1159 AAA PAs going ...
