Re: Realistic Trade Targets

As far as spending and the LT is concerned: Given where the Cubs are not just with the age and price of their core (by this I really mean Bryant) but also the whole media rights situation, I think the Cubs red line the LT for 2019. It’s in their best interest to max the value of all media rights as ...

Re: Realistic Trade Targets

I like Marwin Gonzalez. Can we sign him in any scenario?

Edit: Seems like he could get pretty expensive. Versatile switch hitter with nearly 7 rWAR the past two years on a WS winner. In FA that might get to 4/50+ pretty quickly

Re: Realistic Trade Targets

Castellanos isn’t a free agent till after 2020 unless I’m misreading Cots. Getting a RH power hitter to offset an all lefty outfield (assuming the Cubs sign Harper) is a great idea, but it would be easier to fill the gaping hole in the middle infield. Sign Kipnis after the Indians shockingly buyout...

Re: Realistic Trade Targets

Castellanos makes some sense for us. But, he's a pure rental. And as a horrible defender too, I seriously doubt he's costing very much in trade...... Corner guys don't bring that much of a return, in general. He certainly wouldn't cost Schwarber or Happ. The problem though, in figuring out potentia...

Re: Realistic Trade Targets

I'm assuming Schwarber or Happ would be needed to trade for Castellanos? I'm not overly against the idea. Schwarber for him makes some sense for both teams. I’d do* Schwarber for Castellanos and Mize or Manning, not sure about the rest Note: Probably in what horsefeathering universe are the detroit...

Re: Realistic Trade Targets

Harper - Heyward/Someone - Castellanos Should add that Castellanos is mostly about adding a RH bat coming off a ~.350 wOBA over the past three years in his 20’s for pretty cheap. Getting him out of the infield full time may help mitigate some of the damage on defense Frees up Schwarber for a cheap ...

Re: Realistic Trade Targets

So my favorite potential trade targets* are probably something like:

Stroman
J. Gray
A. Simmons (would easily be #1 if he weren’t the longshot among longshots on this list)
Castellanos
Realmuto

*Assuming Harper, not including bit or relief players

Re: Realistic Trade Targets

Anyone else interested in Nick Castellanos? I consider Harper a must but still want to add a good RH bat. Castellanos plus one or two of their arms (Jimenez, Norris, Greene, Mize, Burrows, Manning) seems like it could end well for the Cubs I'd rather do Peralta and Bradley in the diamonback fire sa...

Re: Realistic Trade Targets

Without doing any actual looking into this: It seems to me if there were a guy who could be a late bloomer in the mold of Nelson Cruz or even JD Martinez it would be Castellanos. Former elite HS bat prospect as a SS, premium size for any position at 6’4”, moved around alot on defense as a young play...

Re: Minor League Musings place holder.

Nice for some reaffirmation on Ademan. He’s still got plenty going for him. In this system he’s still much closer to the top than not, and is as decent a breakout candidate next year as anyone in-house. Hopefully trade partners agree!

Re: Realistic Trade Targets

I’m guessing the Angels will try and fake compete again, but if they look to trade some stuff off I’d have a lot of interest in Andrelton Simmons. He is 29/30 and has 2 years left on his deal, he’s been a not awful hitter the last 2 years and he’s the best defensive SS in MLB. Simmons is awesome bu...

Philly, Seattle, and Atlanta are the teams I have some hopes of moving Heyward to. I like Seattle and Anaheim for Chatwood. These are all based on nonsense

Boo trading Schwarber for a straight reliever. For example, if going to the Tigers the ask starts at like Mize and Jimenez rather than just Jimenez

I know you're not the biggest fan, but Javy definitely should be in that group. I think this team has plenty of options as far as improving and on paper still have a fantastic team, as it is right now. Playoffs, crapshoot, all that stuff...... You still have to sign guys. Harper AND Machado? If you...

Re: The 2018-2019 Cubs Offseason Rumors & Discussion Thread - "On wrongs swift vengeance waits..."

But, signing Machado AND Bryce? Are we the only team in MLB? Are we even the richest team to begin with? The answer is no and there's no way in hell we sign them both. If we MISS on Bryce and Manny, that's the real question...... Are we willing to go over the top end at THAT point? If it got you a ...

BTW I want to trade Montgomery.* Go demand your starting job elsewhere!* *Once they resign Chavez or land a guy capable of the same late inning and spot starter role I want to keep him mostly but like if him and a not great prospect (or Vic) as a sweetener was what it took to have some team take al...
