Re: The Starting Pitching Trade Candidates

I actually don't think there's the heart to slaughter innocent ants. I would go as far as maybe drinking soy once? Something crazy like that

Re: The Starting Pitching Trade Candidates

I just want to say that I'd slaughter an ant farm to land Stroman and Osuna in a mega trade with the Jays. It's such a long shot, but I increasingly believe the Cubs need to go big (Stroman, Archer, Gray, Quintana) for SP or stay home. They're not going to buy one of those former top prospect/post-h...

Re: The Starting Pitching Trade Candidates

I'm coming around on Gray a bit, mostly because with only 2+ years instead of 3+ for names like Archer, Stroman, Quintana plus the arm worry you're likely looking at a less extravagant player cost. Especially since Oakland is more likely than average to value guys like Candelario/Caratini/Zagunis, ...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 6-26-17

South Bend is getting no hit, which means Paredes is getting no hit. Boooooo no hitting Paredes The stuff in that article on his defense is pretty in line with what BA and others have written. Basically he can defend, but cannot run really fast or wear a size zero. The only major difference is a lac...

Re: The Starting Pitching Trade Candidates

I'd kill for Syndergaard if he avoids the knife, and he seemingly will. Everyone else on the Mets' staff has been cut open. It doesn't even really matter because anyone the Mets would trade the Cubs is probably shot. I still can't believe the recent stuff on DeGrom in this thread. He's older than mo...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 6-24-17

The flip side of the coin on this run by Hudson is that he's given up all 4 HRs over those 19 and change innings. He's also given up 28 hits in that span. In the previous three starts that compose most of the 19 IP opponents were putting up a .975 OPS and a .177 IsoSLG against him.

Your point in citing ExST stats was that they're meaningless? Very convenient in a roundabout kind of way

Re: The Starting Pitching Trade Candidates

I don't think it'd be easy for the Mets to pull the plug on their pitching. They'll likely go down with the ship. I thought the package was interesting, because that was less than what I figured it take for them to pull the trigger on a deal. I don't truly feel comfortable giving up Eloy for anyone...

How can 14 innings of baseball with literally the words Spring Training not fit what you deem to be literally meaningless?

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 6-24-17

Not giving up a homer in the DSL literally means nothing. Entire teams hit 20 a year there lol. Some fields don't even have fences and the OFers play so far back that there's no chance of hitting them. As convincing as that is, as HR rates are a leading indicator throughout all levels of the minors...

Re: The Starting Pitching Trade Candidates

That's a ridiculous package to give up for deGrom Seriously...To even consider a package like that for an arm that got cut open years ago is just not a good idea. A basic tenet of any surgery is that you're more likely to re-injure in the long run than be permanently fixed, and recent studies give ...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 6-24-17

AZLers I'm looking forward to: - Albertos - Highest ceiling on the farm by default right now, needs to earn it this year with some innings as the competition starts showing up. - Marquez - One of 3 pitchers from the 2015 IFA crop that Kiley McDaniel pegged with a potential 60 fastball (Yunior Perez ...

Paredes had a game tying double in the fif inning, is 1-2 with a BB and a K. He added a HBP earlier today.

Re: Random In-season Musings and Rumors

Perdomo is a decent option if the Padres are done with him as a starter. The deluxe option would be seeing if the Rangers want to give up on Martin Perez and turn him into another Wood/Montgomery. Maybe Tom Koehler? I think I get it, yeah either of those guys could work. Koehler's pretty boring, bu...

Re: Random In-season Musings and Rumors

Points for originality, but zero chance I'm trading a reliever that's producing well. 'Good enough' in the bullpen turns into a disaster in the blink of an eye. All it takes is CJ coming down with an arm injury and you're trying to win a title with Strop and Uehara as the back end of the pen, and t...

Re: The Starting Pitching Trade Candidates

That's great. I dont have super high hopes for Eloy, yet he's still a top 10ish minor league player and the Cubs are not trading that capital for a Bad SP or an injured one that has also been bad . Or at least they shouldn't. I don't think anyone here would suggest such a thing. Except you just did...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 6-22-17

Paredes was 1/2 with a BB before SB got suspended by rain. Amaya's doubled so far in 2 PAs...Between these guys and Hatch I'm satisfied with the night down on the farm for the Cubs. 19 YO Emilio Ferrebus (21 Ks, 14 Hs, 0 HR in 20 IP for the DSL Cubs2) is another DSLer I'd like to see join the AZL Cu...

Re: The Starting Pitching Trade Candidates

Like I said, hey theo, go buy low on him. this is in the context of the idea that you would offer eloy for a guy who is small, has been injured, bad, and is a year and a half away from his last full season. I had a beautiful response to this, beautiful, and then the internet crashed. The gist of it...

Re: The Starting Pitching Trade Candidates

Gray's a season removed from back to back 200+ inning seasons with 3.45 FIPs and 9 combined rWAR. Norris is just about out of the first injury nexus, has no major arm injuries, and logged some outstanding periphs in the minors (Ks, HR, Hs) and better periphs in the majors than his ERA/s indicate. I ...

Re: The Starting Pitching Trade Candidates

The thought of trading Eloy for Sonny Gray makes me ill. The sickness likely would not be terminal. Gray's really good, but I can get why given the recent arm stuff. IIRC last I checked, I wrote a post and it fell through, he was throwing harder, getting more whiffs, more groundballs, and more popu...
