He could be fine.

I might actually buy the [expletive] I said about Tanaka. Guy was on point tonight.

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 4-27-17

A couple walks for Paredes, who continues to have strong periphs (came in with a .127 IsoSLG, 13.5% K rate) without yet if ever filling out that slash line.

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 4-27-17

I don't like imagining the catastrophic chain of events that would have to occur for Chesny Young to spend plenty of time with the Cubs. You SHOULD. Because it means our youngsters have played well enough to get paid bigly in arb. And it means we've added another big FA too. We'll be wanting a few ...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 4-27-17

Other guys with Young and Sepulveda level of interest or better in full season ball: Hannemann (Iowa) - He's been a way better hitter and might be the best combo of speed and defense in the org. Matt Rose (MB) - Could be a RH slugger off the bench. Owns a .240 IsoSLG and 21.6% K rate so far on the s...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 4-26-17

Kellogg's High A debut went really well. 4 Ks in 5 - could ask for a couple more there, no walks, no HRs, and the groundballs are nice. A successful Kellogg only adds to the increasingly decent enough full season pitching depth to make some moves at the deadline. Martinez got above the Mendoza line ...

The guy is on a 4-5+ WAR/fWAR/WARP pace with "just" the .785 OPS he has now.

This could be fun. Didn't some player, maybe Ian Desmond, do this at some point during the decade?

It's the top of the 3rd and their rookie pitcher almost has 70 pitches. This 4 run gap is poop.

I would not react like that after getting hit but a 95 MPH fastball on the forearm. I'm pretty sure that would break my arm and definitely make me scream and cry.

Agreed, and unlike Baez he can hit.

Bryant is my favorite Cubs player ever already. None of this works without him. I can't say that about anyone else on this team despite being in love with the next tier or two down (Rizzo, Heyward, Russell, Contreras, and Lester).

Re: 4/24 World Champs (Anderson) @ Pirates (Kuhl) 6pm ESPN

it's weird starting to see heyward as a somewhat imposing hitter after seeing him as a weaker ryan theriot last year I remember in the NLDS in 2015 how uncomfortable I was when he'd come up to bat against us. I'm hoping he's doing that a bit to other teams fans now. eh he didn't really worry me tha...

Paredes HR #1

One of the things I love about this guy so far is that he bounces back like a boss. He took off after that 5 K game last year with the game winning hit off the bench the next night. He gets demoted tonight and opens with a HR.

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 4-23-17

I've never seen Hudson pitch, so I'm going off of his scouting report at Cubs.com for the 94mph. The report doesn't just pump him up, it also sates he was pitching at 84-88mph. The report makes sense, I buy it. I believe it. Hudson hypothetically has enough to work with. He's just not a very nuance...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 4-24-17

So Jacob Hannemann hasn't sucked in a while, possibly some of that due to being hurt most of last year. Still, he was waaaaaay better last year and has been good so far this year (1/2 today with a couple walks). The speed and defense can playso if there's competence with the bat there's a shot for a...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 4-23-17

All this talk of what AZPhil said about Hudson's starts - all he did was state the lines. I think he called the first one the best ExST he's ever seen, which sounds great in a vacuum but then you remember this is a repeat attendee's highlight - amateur or pro - to this point. I do not think a prospe...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 4-23-17

Ignoring that we're talking 11 ExST innings for a second/third year pro - the only baseball writer I saw even mention it was AZPhil. Well, he's been a "pro" for less than two years and he's 19 yrs old... So, those are good numbers for him in ExST... Is there any reason to doubt AZPhil? If...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 4-23-17

Normally, I don't get very excited about EXST numbers. In Hudson's case, I did. He had gone 11 3 0 0 1 12 in his last 2 outings and had rave reviews, to boot . Hitting spots, generating weak contact..... I kind of suspect, that IF things go right, its a "lightbulb on" moment and not somet...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 4-23-17

Certainly the velocity will factor there. If he continues to have Kellogg-esque 80's velocity, he'll need to be pretty consistent with his command to get much interest. If his velocity bumps into the 90's, then there's more tolerance for inconsistency. Doesn't matter what he's throwing if he can't ...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 4-23-17

Still, he's a guy that could conceivably go from borderline top 30 to inside our top 10, so he's worth keeping track of. You can copy and paste this about a whole lot of guys, system's turning over and all. Thing with Hudson is that he's been *reeeeally* bad in pro games and there's a whole lot of ...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 4-21-17

I don't think our 2015 IFA class is bad, but I definitely think we signed kids early that didn't develop well for their 16 year old season, therefore overpaid on a decent amount of our class. Some have came back, some haven't. Way too early to truly judge anything, but my current rankings on that g...
