Younger, the less scouted guys, the guys with shorter track records in general both international and domestic...As a lower profile IFA just coming stateside there's not much info.

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 6-23-18

Didn't AZPhil have him mid to upper 80's in EXST? Stretching out, not overthrowing, plenty of possible reasons mid 80's was to be expected for him when Phil saw him. But, everyone else was throwing what you'd expect them to. So, it did put me off him somewhat. If he's still throwing mid to upper 80...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 6-23-18

https://bitacoradeportiva.com/2016/07/didier-vargas-quinto-panameno-en-unirse-a-los-cubs/ In this interview the Cubs' rep that signed Didier Vargas, Cirilo Cumberbatch, says the Cubs hope he can push 95-96 eventually. Vargas says he's 91-92 with a 12-6 curveball. Seems like there's some upside poten...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 6-23-18

Kwang-Min Kwon playing some CF tonight for the Emeralds with a double and a walk in 3 PAs. He's K'd once so far this season. Luis Vazquez seems whelmed by this level offensively. Jose Gutierrez is repeating the AZL and is doing really well early on. Long run he might be a better prospect than Kelli ...

Can't wait till they update the box score tomorrow and we find out it took 3 pitchers to get through those 7 innings.

It's funny because it's true. It's hard to imagine a team letting anyone throw 7 in the AZL.

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 6-23-18

Strong night from Didier Vargas with 8 Ks, no HRs, 5 IP, and just 4 hits allowed. I thought he was done after 3 but am glad he was allowed to get more innings. Ovalles picked up another hit and played more CF in the DSL. Christopher Morel's put together back to back games offensively. Hopefully thes...

Re: 2018 Actual MLB Draft Day(s) Thread

Tom, how dated would that video of Franklin be? From last summer? Or woudl that be pretty up-to-date? I'm seeing June 5, 2018 on the thing, is that when it was actually taken? Wes has linked twitter of Franklin saying he's officially a Cub. Feburary showcase ---- Vanderbilt's getting Rocker and Joh...

Re: 2018 Actual MLB Draft Day(s) Thread

Here's some video of Kohl Franklin: https://mobile.twitter.com/prepbaseball/status/1004089327369031681/video/1 I think he can make significant velocity gains as a pro. He uses his lower body really well for a HSer, has a quick arm, gets on top of the ball, long levers...not sure there's a starter th...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 6-22-18

Carlos Ocampo had a strong stateside debut. 6 Ks in 3.2 IP with a hit allowed and a couple walks. He's got a power arm with some upside to develop into a potentially higher ceiling prospect.

This Alex Ovalles guy seems to believe in himself down in the DSL. Same for this Reivaj Baez guy in the AZL.

Brayan Mancillia is an 18 YO in the DSL who is hitting so far this year while playing catcher, LF, and RF. Hopefully he keeps on believing in himself. Josue Fernandez picked up 5 Ks to help balance out all those walks. Ovalles picked up a couple more hits

Re: 2018 Actual MLB Draft Day(s) Thread

1. What are you talking about with the "seemingly random college arms" comment? The only one I can think of is Zastryzny, who was pretty much universally disliked at the time of the draft. Most didn't care too much, because Bryant was an awesome pick, but nobody loved Zastryzny in the 2nd...

Everyone has guys they like. We all miss a bunch. None of us are any better or worse at this than anyone else. I try my best to be receptive to what others say, because we're all in the same boat. We're prospect nerds. There ain't many of us on here either, probably 10? I'm happy to hear who you li...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 6-19-18

6'3" 17 YO switch hitter Josue Fernandez has 10 BBs in maybe a dozen DSL PAs. That's unusual. He's one of the handful youngest players in the org having just turned 17 in February. Santiago Blanco, an 18 YO switch hitter, has logged innings at 2B and CF. He's been hitting some (.393 BA) and sho...

Re: 2018 Actual MLB Draft Day(s) Thread

Just so I'm super clear for the future - what's the process for owning up? Do I have to mention the big Ryan Kellogg miss more often? What should I be sayng about Rucker post-draft outside of shucks and good luck? Is there a credit/debit system and what earns credit talking about prospects? It seems...

Well no - more regular ERA and hits allowed vs the also pro ball relevant data working for him like his DIPs and batted ball profile.

But with the bolded, the big thing for everyone is whether or not you got the same vibe when you watched Ryan Kellogg, Kyle Twomey, or any of the other failed pitching prospects you fell in love with? Well no, Kellogg and Twomey were really well known HS recruits that never got better but I thought...

Re: The Manny Machado Thread

This year makes 3 of 4 years(not so coincidentally matching the start of his power surge/physical maturity) where he’s been average at 3B, poor at SS, or both. I’m open to the idea that a team can be optimistic and think of him as a primary backup, filling in a few games a year or maybe for a DL st...
