Re: The Starting Pitching Trade Candidates

Isn't it safest to assume the Cubs have inquired about all possible available SPs and then some?

Re: 2018 Draft Thread

Baker's going to get knocked for being both a 1B and a RH 1B at that, especially since he got hurt, but he was on his way to be a truly elite prospect as a freshman. Madrigal's got alot to like but where's the power? Pompey could be fun if he can play CF.

Nelson Velazquez (18) and Luis Vazquez (17 until October), 2017 HS draftees, made their pro debuts last night in CF and SS for the AZL Cubs.

Re: Minor League Musings place holder.

Consensus top 100 prospect entering 2017 based at least a little on being stateside at 17 playing ball well, Leodys Taveras, in full season A- ball:

.251/.305/.356 with a 16.1% K rate in 386 PAs

Isaac Paredes:

.264/.348/.409 with a 14.4% K rate in 341 PAs

Re: Random In-season Musings and Rumors

The opposite model might be that of Milwaukee’s division rival, the Chicago Cubs: an expected favorite to whom Doyle gives a disappointingly low World Series probability. The defending champs are having a well-documented down year, and although they’re talented enough to have decent title odds if t...

Re: Mid season prospect lists

I'd have Lange and Paredes one and two on the catch that the system sucks. The funny/good thing is that so far I like this group of prospects better than the last ten outside of Jimenez at the same stage. There's raw tools to work with in this bunch, and most are only first or second year pros, and ...

Re: Random In-season Musings and Rumors

it's not that i can't see a team giving stanton something along the lines of 7/208 at that point...it's that i don't see how much more upside there'd be beyond that for it to be worth the risk for him. a lot obv depends on how things play out between now and then. the sport will continue to be flus...

Re: Random In-season Musings and Rumors

I know how good he is. I love him as a player. He's injury prone, he's going to be older, and he's not opting out of that, because no team out there is going to give him that, in his decline years. Just not happening. One of those 4 statements is a genuine truth. im dying to know what your real lif...

Re: Random In-season Musings and Rumors

Expecting a team to give Stanton, a guy who's literally played more than 123 games TWICE in 6 full seasons , a contract more than 7/208, for his 31-37 year old seasons is also one of the worst ideas in the history of the board. You can't remotely expect him to opt out of that . The average Giancarl...

AZ was a good team having a great year before falling on their faces of late, +92 RD.

Oh then this is a really badass move.

Re: Random In-season Musings and Rumors

Paying Giancarlo Stanton 10/288 over his 28-37 year old seasons is among the worst ideas this board has ever had. NM, guess it got edited out of a post quickly. That's true. OTOH, 3/$77m for Stanton to hit you 90+ HRs to close out his 20s before opting out is not some crazy unlikely outcome either....

Re: The Starting Pitching Trade Candidates

Julio Teheran will make a couple million less in 2018 than Brett Anderson did this year.

At this point I'm flabbergasted he's such a heavy no here.

Edit: It took three tries but now the first sentence makes sense.

Re: The Starting Pitching Trade Candidates

The Cubs would get ages 26-29 of a healthy pitcher who has already logged 930.2 ML IPs (including the bad ones!) with a 3.54 ERA in the MLs for $35 million over 3.5 years. He would be the team's 4th starter. He's all of 10 months removed from 3.2 fWAR/4.8 rWAR over 188 IP and averaged 2.5 fWAR/3.4 r...

Re: The Starting Pitching Trade Candidates

When a team is actively shopping for pitchers like the Braves and then openly selling another there's not a lot of ways you can spin that in the positive for the guy getting sold. Marketing ploy...They have probably the best farm in the league, if they actually were buyers they'd buy. Teams are cop...

i've never liked teheran at all and like him even less now that he's a dumpster fire also, ask yourself why a team that's approaching seeing the fruits of a rebuild is very open to trading a 26 year old starter Because selling established pitching during a rebuild is a pretty basic step?
