Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 4-19-18

Marco Hernandez at 19 was posting a .660 OPS at the same levels Ademan posted a .751 OPS at 18. Hernandez didn’t see High A until 21. Agreed with Tim that Bote is being undersold. He’s got pop and probably can contribute this year if they needed. De la Cruz should log as many innings as he can this ...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 4-19-18

Uelmen got 12 of his 14 outs tonight via the strikeout and groundball, so he had that going for him. If he starts hitting for some gd power, maybe Eddy Martinez will be for 2018 what Short was for the system in 2017. He's showing less swing and miss, walking, and putting the ball in the air more, an...

Re: 2018 Draft Thread

Law also mentions that Rocker missed some starts due to a hamstring issue. Right, I 100% get that and was able to read that far. What I'm asking is, in this pure list of draft prospects, does he have some dude #2 who most don't think will go in the top ten due to signability (or injury, or whatever)...

Re: 2018 Draft Thread

I like Kumar Rocker a lot, but if he's asking for $5 mil then the Cubs will have to pass. I mean he's NOT that good . That's top-5 range in the draft. I guess could see him going to school and developing into a top of the draft/1-1 candidate in a few years. I'd disagree with that. I see him as one ...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 4-18-18

SSS yada yada but I am impressed by Ademan's ability to put the ball in the air. Even last year he was pushing 40%...Amaya too...comes with alot of pop ups but they're also teenagers playing premium positions at levels same age guys are hoping to reach in a year or two.

Re: Minor League Musings place holder.

Any new thoughts on Cubs’ RHP Alex Lange? I have relatively high hopes, see him as a much better shot at a legit first division SP than De la Cruz and Albertos Eric A Longenhagen: He's an interesting fit as a Lance McCullers type of starter who comes in and throws his breaking ball half the time. C...

Re: 2018 Draft Thread

Praise Jah for this crazy emphasis on signability on the draft: Chances Kumar Rocker gets to the Cubs at 24? Eric Longenhagen: There's a chance he falls due to signability but I'm not sure they can pay him. Their pool is around $7mil. If Rocker wants $5mil, it's tough to make that work and still hav...

Re: 2018 Draft Thread

Naylor’s a catcher and/or will probably be drafted as one. He’ll probably get reps at 2B or 3B as a pro, that seems more common for C prospects these days. I agree he’s one of the better HS players too. I deeeefinitely expect a run on college players, particularly bats. I really don’t buy that guys ...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 4-18-18

Little's two outings have come in weather generously described as 40 degrees, I'm not terribly worried about down velocity. 5 walks in 18 batters is a different story, although history is full of guys who take a few games to settle in to a level too. Pretty much, guy was their first pick for a reas...

Re: 2018 Draft Thread

Also are there any Cease or Giolito type HS guys who we know need TJS that would've been higher if not for it that could fall to us? Seems like the FO, but also the league in general, doesn't seem to overly think it is that big of a deal anymore other than the missed time. We've added Chatwood, Dar...

Re: 2018 Draft Thread

Ooh yah, this FO loves Vandy recruits and would pay to land a talent as loud as Rocker or even Hankins (though I’m less of a fan, seems more Rick Porcello than what I think Rocker might be).

Sorry, I was looking to add a little dramatic flair. He'll for sure be starting games this year and the IP are more important anyway.

Oh and Ryan Kellogg still sucks

Brendon Little got kicked out of the SB rotation, came in to relieve Abbott, and walked two guys before recording an out.

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 4-16-18

There's still zero precedent for that kind of deal where an org gives up proooobably their top prospect to dump a salary. There has, OTOH, been Heyward sized dumps (the Red Sox/Dodgers trade, Rockies/Jays, Stanton). Teams like the Phillies and Braves have tons to spend and little to spend on, and He...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 4-16-18

The commish job is not THE reason. The true point is Hayward sucks, is paid lots of money, and moving his salary off the books will give us a bunch of added flexibility. It would take Ademan plus to move him . But, the added draft picks, plus the IFA class additions, should allow us to move a few g...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 4-16-18

Don't see them or ANY team heading into the draft pick loss section of the luxury tax, no matter how much money they can afford to spend. Theo especially, since he may have designs on the commissioner gig himself, at some stage. MLB doesn't want teams exploiting that and I don't see teams doing it....

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 4-16-18

Probably not. But I don't remember Arizona's system when they moved Touki with Arroyo. At any rate, I think they'll do their best to move Heyward, for Bryce. And it's take Ademan plus other solid prospects to get a team to eat most of that deal. And I think the FO would jump at doing it actually . ...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 4-16-18

I'm not worried about K rates with Ademan yet. Nor am I going to take his SLG rates seriously either. But, I do think he's a top 50ish prospect by the end of the year. And a very nice lead piece to pair with Heyward, to unload his contract, in the offseason. I’m hoping we don’t need to get rid of a...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 4-16-18

Ademan has K'd over 40% of his AB. Obviously early and small sample, but at this point I wonder if his hitting development might not have been better served with a South Bend assignment. Probably makes no difference, though. He's also got a .167 IsoSLG that was .194 coming into the day. It's proooo...
