The Pelicans faced off against probably the VBs top prospect in Keston Hiura. He's currently hitting .185/.259/.277 on the season. He's probably going to hit eventually, but haa haa.

Re: 2018 Draft Thread

https://twitter.com/keithlaw/status/988536153707089920 This kid is rising pretty fast -- Keith Law is really high on him. So I watched video of him pitching and I'm not a big fan. Great stuff and a plus fastball, but I feel like the team drafting him is going to have to clean up his pitching mechan...

Re: International Free Agency Thread 2018-2019

Go get Rodriguez somehow and use the MLB draft for restocking hitting, at this point. While I do want to walk away with one of the tools laden prep bats (Casas, Naylor, Edwards, Siani, Alek Thomas, Groshans, Gray, Adams, Cabell) or a fallen college bat (Pompey?), there's way too many talented prep ...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 4-24-18

Oscar de la Cruz rocked today. He gave up a couple HRs to go with 5 walks and 5 runs in 2.2 innings. OTOH Eddy Martinez is 2/3 with a HR. From clips it looks like he's bulked up a little but in a good way, another Cubs player in the Best Shape of His Life. Albertos also got smacked around during his...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 4-24-18

Craig Brooks as a pro: 140 IP 3 HRA 192Ks 108 HA He's not as fun nor as prospect-y as Mekkes but if he can sneak into the MLs at 26/27 he might be able to float around getting MR gigs with some second and third division teams for a few years. He may have some control issues but the things he does do...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 4-23-18

Gomber's pro career is going alot like I thought Kellogg's would go. He's no TOR starter but he's healthy, competent, and eats innings. Meant to say this yesterday but I continue to be impressed by Ademan. .255/.323/.382 is solid from a 19 YO SS in High A. The early swing and miss will cool the over...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 4-22-18

It's fun how litle I care that the team's first pick last year is off to such a horrendous start to his pro career. Within 3 years I still believe there will be pitching and LHP depth in the organization. Plus Little hasn't blown his arm out yet, early season cold weather baseball blows, and there i...

Re: Gleyber Torres Getting Called up to the Bigs

I still think the best future MLer they've traded is a chunky A ball SS by the name of Isaac Paredes, who also won't be missed. Jimenez and Torres strike me as 3 WAR players. Jimenez will be limited by his non-bat skills and nagging injuries, Torres by being unspectacular.

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 4-21-18

Lange's working on working faster...He's throwing well, doing his strikeout and popup thing. The only guy really giving him a decent PA is Taveras, one of the better teenage prospects in baseball. Ademan had a two out two RBI single in his first PA. Edit: Jinxed it for Lange, 4 hit inning so far in ...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 4-20-18

I really expected Eddy Martinez to get trashed by AA pitching so what he’s doing so far is way better than I expected. Contact, flyballs, and some patience are solid offensive ingredients these days. He came into pro ball missing two years of reps so I give the guy credit there, it takes talent to m...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 4-19-18

Marco Hernandez at 19 was posting a .660 OPS at the same levels Ademan posted a .751 OPS at 18. Hernandez didn’t see High A until 21. Agreed with Tim that Bote is being undersold. He’s got pop and probably can contribute this year if they needed. De la Cruz should log as many innings as he can this ...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 4-19-18

Uelmen got 12 of his 14 outs tonight via the strikeout and groundball, so he had that going for him. If he starts hitting for some gd power, maybe Eddy Martinez will be for 2018 what Short was for the system in 2017. He's showing less swing and miss, walking, and putting the ball in the air more, an...

Re: 2018 Draft Thread

Law also mentions that Rocker missed some starts due to a hamstring issue. Right, I 100% get that and was able to read that far. What I'm asking is, in this pure list of draft prospects, does he have some dude #2 who most don't think will go in the top ten due to signability (or injury, or whatever)...

Re: 2018 Draft Thread

I like Kumar Rocker a lot, but if he's asking for $5 mil then the Cubs will have to pass. I mean he's NOT that good . That's top-5 range in the draft. I guess could see him going to school and developing into a top of the draft/1-1 candidate in a few years. I'd disagree with that. I see him as one ...

SSS yada yada but I am impressed by Ademan's ability to put the ball in the air. Even last year he was pushing 40%...Amaya too...comes with alot of pop ups but they're also teenagers playing premium positions at levels same age guys are hoping to reach in a year or two.

Re: Minor League Musings place holder.

Any new thoughts on Cubs’ RHP Alex Lange? I have relatively high hopes, see him as a much better shot at a legit first division SP than De la Cruz and Albertos Eric A Longenhagen: He's an interesting fit as a Lance McCullers type of starter who comes in and throws his breaking ball half the time. C...

Re: 2018 Draft Thread

Praise Jah for this crazy emphasis on signability on the draft: Chances Kumar Rocker gets to the Cubs at 24? Eric Longenhagen: There's a chance he falls due to signability but I'm not sure they can pay him. Their pool is around $7mil. If Rocker wants $5mil, it's tough to make that work and still hav...

Re: 2018 Draft Thread

Naylor’s a catcher and/or will probably be drafted as one. He’ll probably get reps at 2B or 3B as a pro, that seems more common for C prospects these days. I agree he’s one of the better HS players too. I deeeefinitely expect a run on college players, particularly bats. I really don’t buy that guys ...
