Re: Westworld

the maeve and bernard storylines are the ones i'm most interested in at this point. i feel like they could've put the delores scenes from last night into a future episode that is more delores-heavy . with everything going on with maeve in shogun world, they felt out of place/shoe-horned. I felt the...

Re: 2018 Draft Thread

Those are the kind of prospects that fill out of a draft behind some big spending up top. Lopez is perfect for that kind of draft in the rounds 3-10 range, college arm that can start in the lower minors to gain experience and innings before converting to a reliever with an interesting arm angle from...

Re: THE Bryce Harper in 2018 Thread

Heck, if I'm being fair ... I'm not so sure the Cubs future is necessarily better than the Nationals. I really love Soto, and a core of Soto/Robles/Turner/Rendon plus Scherzer/Strasburg in the short term, and an ownership that you know will spend ... is very, very tantalizing. Sure, KB/Rizzo/Contre...

Re: 2018 Draft Thread

Murray's something like 5'10" and maybe he's up to 200 pounds. Next year, 5 years removed from HS, he'll be 22 in August and a one year quarterback at a Big 12 school. That's a 6th-7th round pick if some NFL GM is feeling nuts and really closer to UDFA material. There's few real doubts what pro...

Re: 2018 Draft Thread

Water gun to face I would take Rolison over Gilbert. RHs with Gilbert’s stuff are a dime a dozen....Neither guy does it for me at 24 as the Cubs don’t *need* anything more from the farm this decade, but Rolison’s got the pitches to do what Little was probably hoped to do last year I think Gilbert en...

Re: 2018 Draft Thread

I’d eat a half gallon of almond milk ice cream to get Callis’ Rocker mock or that Weathers mock to come true

I like Ryan Rolison, a healthy college lefty with 95 and his breaking ball is pretty rare, but he’s the kind of guy I’d ve ecstatic to land at 63 and meh at 24.

Re: 2018 Draft Thread

Uh, I responded to what you SAID. YOU SAID they hadn't spent big on pitching. Concepcion was 6 mill. Albertos got 1.5 which was definitely a top 3-5 bonus that year for pitching. Tseng got 1.5 or so, which was a top bonus for his year too. I'm not arguing talent. Ooooh...I see. Here's what I said w...

Brendon Little has now given up 7 HRs in 45.1 pro IP to go with just 27 Ks

OTOH Eddy Martinez had back to back good days and Amaya continues to trek at a quality pace

Re: 2018 Draft Thread

+1 on all of this. I'd also note that Blackburn and Johnson were technically 1st round picks, even if in the supplemental round. Speaking of those guys, who were first supplemental round rather than first round, another hot take is that the 2018 Cubs draft will follow the same format as the Cubs' 2...

Re: 2018 Draft Thread

Gotta remember the Cuban gem we unearthed named Concepcion. Gerardo, maybe? Anyway, he got like 6 mill from us, but at least it was over 5 years. Albertos was around 1.5 too. As a general rule, pitchers just don't cost as much in IFA. Especially now that Cubans are capped too. It seems like there's...

Re: 2018 Draft Thread

Two hot takes: - I think the Cubs’ pitching development issues are mostly that they have not prioritized pitching like they have hitting. They only just used a first on one for the first time last year and have yet to pay big for an IFA arm (Tdeng is their high IIRC). - All this talk about next gene...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 5-16-18

Nice to see Ademan and Martinez have a good day. More full season prospect bats hitting, please! Velazquez had a couple hits too, and Assad even pitched well. I'm really loving the sink or swim approach this year...Martinez in AA after a weak offensve year last year, Ademan in High A, Velazquez and ...

Re: 2018 Draft Thread

However, you drop past 15 and he becomes a guy you're having to overslot. Most teams(us included) haven't taken guys in the 1st, that you over slot on. Not sure why, but maybe teams prefer keeping "above water" on their monetary outlay for the first few rounds. Don't want to go under slot...

Re: 2018 Draft Thread

Question about Kumar Rocker. Seems like a month ago he was projected to go in the top ten. In your latest mock, you have him going in the supplemental rounds. Did something happen with him that I missed to drop his stock? Kiley McDaniel 1:10 I mean we literally spelled it out in the mock. He had a ...

Re: 2018 Draft Thread

Yay. I don't really see the point of a conservative approach in this draft. The chances of getting this much money to spend again in the draft is very low given that the team is awesome, the farm's weakness is impact talent, the draft is strong early....

Re: Minor League Musings place holder.

Hot take: Vlad's getting the Kris Bryant prospect treatment where an outlier body type and loud ass bat overshadow that he's more well rounded given credit for. He's neither a base clogger or (nor? I forget) or a bad defender.

Re: 2018 Draft Thread

The bit written on the Cubs for that Fangraphs mock has me thinking the Cubs have been mum and are staying out of draft rumors this year. I think they will fall under the value over demographics group, the premium is always on talent and performance rather than HS/college with this FO. Canning’s exa...

Re: Minor League Musings place holder.

Where does Vlad Jr. rank among prospects of the 21st century? He's hitting .397/.447/.645 with an 8.5% K rate and almost 10% BB rate in 142 AA PAs this year. His $3.9 million bonus is the second highest for a 16 YO ever behind Michael Ynoa, easily the highest since the new IFA rules.
