Re: Cubs Offseason Top Prospects Lists (BA, BP, Sickels, etc)

Hannemann showed some of that defense, speed, and athleticism in today's game tracking a ball at full speed in CF, catching it, then easily running up the wall for show. DJ Wilson and Sepulveda were two of the younger, lower level prospects to appear in the game. Who else is there? Not enough Parede...

Re: Cubs Offseason Top Prospects Lists (BA, BP, Sickels, etc)

And Albertos' stuff isn't questioned like Paredes' big league position. Yeah, that's another factor. A pitcher who can pitch and has outstanding stuff too just is so much more rare than a guy who might hit and might stay in the MIF. With both Ademan and Jonathan Sierra it is a matter of their power...

Re: Cubs Offseason Top Prospects Lists (BA, BP, Sickels, etc)

I don't think there's too much mystery why BA and others will gamble on Albertos over Paredes at this stage. Albertos cost $1.5 million to sign. That's huge for a Mexican IFA, nearly double that of Parades and huge for an amateur pitcher signing by the Cubs. That bonus put him on the map and plays s...

Re: Minor League Musings place holder.

Found this note on CCO: Flying under the radar for fans, Ryan Kellogg has impressed the scouts. A fifth round pick in 2015, the 6-foot-5 left-hander quietly went about his business and was second in the Midwest League in WHIP and sixth in ERA. Kellogg led the Low-A South Bend staff in starts and inn...

Re: Cubs Offseason Top Prospects Lists (BA, BP, Sickels, etc)

Moreno's TJ more or less limits my hopes for him as a Cub to trade chip or non-SP. I liked him some when signed thanks to a decent frame and some pitchability with a feel for three pitches in his fastball/change/curve. Now he'll be as much as a half decade+ removed from TJ when/if he debuts. TJ is w...

I want to think he's got like a Bernie Williams thing going on in his stance and swing, but can't tell for sure and also don't care that much yet.

Re: Cubs Predictions for 2017

- Cubs have the best offense in the league outright - Between Bryant, Rizzo, Heyward, Contreras, Russell, and Schwarber the Cubs have 4 5+ players and 6 4+ WAR players. I'm going with the first four for five. Please note that I thought Heyward was going to be a beast last year. - Cubs get 540-600 in...

Re: Cubs Offseason Top Prospects Lists (BA, BP, Sickels, etc)

Paredes was CCO's short season position player of the year: But as the AZL Cubs quickly bowed in the Rookie League playoffs, the season was not over for Paredes. When South Bend’s Andrew Monasterio was injured shortly before the end of the season, management bypassed several older and more experienc...

Re: General Baseball Chit-Chat Thread

Damn, all you guys pining for Pujols and Fielder are amateurs; I raged hardest when the Cubs didn't sign Adam horsefeathering Dunn after 2010. Beat THAT. Fun fact: Adam Dunn only has a 16 bWAR for his entire CAREER. My 2 biggest WTF? signings/non-signings for the Cubs were not signing Carlos Beltra...

Re: Random Offseason Musings and Rumors

4/5 of this arb 3 and arb 1 guys will be pretty lucky to still be Cubs by then. Less emphasis on FA and more on trades until next offseason. Currently the Cubs have the best 2018 FA SP and reliever on the roster, an advantage even if the safe assumption is that they pay neither. The Dodgers' TV deal...

Re: Random Offseason Musings and Rumors

The guy they gave up for Brothers, Wander Cabrera, would be one of the marginally taller midgets among the Cubs' arm prospects. This doesn't actually mean anything since he's not even stateside, but Cabrera has the makings of a quality prospect if he stays healthy.

.138 IsoSLG as one of the youngest in the AZL where the league average was .108. Personally I have no major questions, hence the love, beyond the basics over there being still 3-5 years and at least 4 more levels of minor league ball to go.

Here's what Law had on Paredes: "[He's] pretty interesting. I get mixed reports on whether he’s really going to stay at short or move up a position, but sounds like he can really hit. And I will say, teams don’t love scouting in Mexico...[but] I think the Cubs are pretty aggressive down there.&...

Re: Cubs Offseason Top Prospects Lists (BA, BP, Sickels, etc)

Low Minors Starters and Relievers While he will show up on a lot of top prospect lists, a word of caution is in order when talking about 18-year old Jose Albertos. A product of intensive scouting efforts by the Cubs in Mexico, Albertos had his debut with the organization cut short last summer. Afte...

Re: Cubs Offseason Top Prospects Lists (BA, BP, Sickels, etc)

Law's comments on Paredes and Martinez keep me high. The BA podcast said a lot of nice things about DJ Wilson, another one I find really interesting so far. They mentioned that the Cubs and other teams saw him as a football guy and threw out a more physically gifted Adam Eaton as a comp. He's one of...
