Re: The Starting Pitching Trade Candidates

Meh, the Jays can have Estrada. All the Cubs need at the BOR next year is innings and mostly competent performance, but most important is innings. Pick up some BOR innings eater with a healthy arm and interesting enough stuff like Wade Miley once he's bought out and let coaching and the offense hand...

Re: 2017 Post-Season Prospect Rankings

It's crazy to see a Cubs prospect list with 8 of the first 10 prospects being pitchers. Also the top spot went to a pitcher coming off back to back injury shortened seasons at the A ball levels. The innings he threw this year weren't even so good, and it will have taken him 6 pro seasons to get to ...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 9-10-17

McCloud has done a great job with the inroads into Mexico. IIRC the scout that signed most of those guys - Sergio Hernandez - was recognized as the org's scout of the year in 2015 and/or 2016. He's scouted a nunber of guys who went on to perform well early and a few that even have high ceilings bet...

Re: NFL Week 1

Since the Jets plan to find another level of horsefeathers this year and I already didn't watch last year, I'm rooting for the Rivers to finally have a year. The Chargers have finally found a pass rusher post-Merrimann in Bosa. QB and pass rusher are vital ingredients, I might like their CBs as a gr...

Re: Minor League Musings place holder

Here's two hitter's pro debuts: ~32% GB / ~19% LD / ~52% FB / ~7% IFFBs 30% GB / ~19% LD / 51.4% FB / 5.6% IFFBs One an 18 YO CF in Rk ball the other is Kris Bryant between Rk and A ball in 2013. The swing and miss might kill him, but no one has debuted with that kind of game power since the system ...

I didn't call Rucker's exact numbers this season so disregard previous post. Had I known there was that catch!

Ademan slowed down significantly but still like that .143 IsoSLG and 17% K rate from an 18 YO SS in full season ball.

This was the year of unexpected emergence amongst Cubs pitching prospects. Normally, you can hope to have maybe 1 or 2 pop up prospects. This year, the Cubs have 4, and that's just the pitchers... Jen-Ho Tseng: 13-4, 2.54 ERA, 145.1 IP, 38 BB, 122 K, 1.14 WHIP, .233 BAA in AA/AAA Tseng's 2016: 6-8,...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 9-2-17

AZL Cubs locked up a playoff spot using hard work, team work, and old fashioned confidence. Possibly as many as 3 OF prospects and a couple or maybe a few interesting arms of various upside potential ceilings? Austin Filiere's been hitting for Eugene lately after doing a little soul searching in ord...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 8-29-17

Jose Gutierrez believed in himself during the second half and hit something like .340 with maybe an .860 OPS. He actually started hitting a little before that. There's swing and miss in any AZL prospect candidate, Velazquez's 8 HRs came with a lot of swing and miss, so they're way behind guys like A...

Little has had the opposite of a promising debut. I was really hoping for more everything. Good thing Lange seems awesome so far and it's like 9 innings apiece anyway.

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 8-28-17

I'm plenty pleased with Albertos right now. Even beyond the strong performance as an 18 YO in what is essentially a college aged player league what has me most optimistic is the body. He's strong, physical, loose.... Also: He hasn't given up a homer as a professional. Huge part of why I like him on...

Josue Huma went 2/3 with a couple walks today. He's put up a solid .276/.357/.383 since July (182 PAs) and has been hot lately (.350+ over his last 10). He came into 2017 as the youngest player in the org IIRC and is currently a switch hitting MIF, hitting RHPs much better than LHPs this year. Possi...
