Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 8-14-18

I have serious doubts Lange hitting 93 or 94 would be seen was flukish by the pros and looking around no one has said he hasn't hit 96 since his freshman year or anything, just not sitting there. There's not a whole lot of 22 year olds maintaining SP traits, including clear progress at least two (tw...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 8-14-18

It's been his 4-seam velocity for several years now. He doesn't touch any higher than that. Not sure this is true so much as he hasn’t sat 93-96 like he may have as a freshman Which part? There is ample evidence that he hasn't been more than 90-92 for the past 3 baseball seasons. He could have touc...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 8-14-18

90-92 fastball for Lange, on a good day, isn't super inspiring. I've been surprised that after all the curveball buzz, that he hasn't K'd more guys. K-rate hasn't been bad, or anything, but given how few A-ballers can hit average curves, much less excellent ones, I'd have figured he'd have a few mo...

Re: Cubs Acquire Cole Hamels for Eddie Butler, Rollie Lacy & PTBNL

So in 2015 I went on a rant to some guy who worked for some team at a MiL game that if the Cubs added Heyward, Hamels, and Chapman they would be monstrous. They have now acquired all three so this counts as me being right. 5 credits, please! 10 if all three are on WS winners!

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 8-14-18

Marquez gave up his 5th HR in 41 IP tonight but was otherwise strong. I check Eugene for Nelson Velazquez but he’s been cold this week. Luis Vazquez really really went cold some rime ago, is still that so far tonight. —- Brennen Davis is low key hitting .298 with a .431 OBP, ~16% K rate, and 6 SBs i...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 8-14-18

Lange needs 20 good pounds on that frame. That last pitch, four seam up and away, was very well executed and set up.

Re: The way too early, but I'm bored, Off-season Options Thread

I just really don't see us trading Heyward, and I also don't see us going with a Schwarber-Heyward-Harper outfield, as much fun as the lineups would be. I think if we sign Harper then we will trade Schwarber, which meas we should be able to get a good SP back. This crossed my mind yesterday, especi...

Re: The way too early, but I'm bored, Off-season Options Thread

I mean this entirely seriously, I want to keep Heyward. We can still fit Bryce in with him and I’ll buy in he’s figured it out enough offensively and he’s still good on defense. Plus I think he’s an awesome teammate and clubhouse guy. I'm optimistic about Heyward as a player in general, so sure. He...

I'm optimistic about them being able to move one or both of Heyward and Chatwood. Seattle?

Re: Minor League Musings place holder.

So in a season where Amaya is the only guy to really set a badass track to the majors, this Richard Gallardo signing has really caught my interest. He became the highest ranked amateur pitcher this FO has signed and the highest ranked amateur they’ve brought in since Happ in 2015. I wonder where sco...

When Short earned the distinction last year of the batter at High-A whose hitting profile most resembled the sort with which Matt Carpenter and Daniel Murphy and Justin Turner have succeeded in the majors, it seemed like a positive indicator for his future, seeing as he complemented that high-conta...

I too find it hilarious when my favorite team's best player is hurt for at least half the season. Aaaaaaand the team still has the best record in the National league. you left that part out. Vlad Jr's season line entering tonight (he's 1/3 with a HR):

.407/.462/.678 with <10% K rate and 41 XBHs including 16 HRs through 315 PAs

His AAA slash line entering tonight:

.462/.571/.769 through 35 PAs

With tonight's included he has more HRs (3) than Ks (2) in AAA

It's hilarious this team has the best record in the NL with Bryant missing ~40 games so far.

Huma with his first AZL HR, one of those teenaged switch hitters playing up the middle they've piled up. 2 run shot drove in Jonathan Perlaza, another switch hitter, who had hit a double just before. Brennen Davis has less swing and miss and more aptitude offensively than I expected/is maybe typical...

Re: Cubs trade Eloy, Cease, others for Quintana

The one catch with Quintana's first five years is that most of them were in a completely different, pitcher friendly run environment. I think he's probably closer to the 4.03 FIP guy he is overall as a Cub, maybe somewhere between his career 3.60 and his 4.03 with the Cubs, than the 4.60 this year t...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 8-5-18

4 Ks in a row for Faustino before giving up his first hit in the third Finished with 7 Ks in 4.2. He's at 43.1 IP, 38 Ks, 3HRs, 38 Hs, 14 BBS, 17 Rs (16 ERs), should easily be in South Bend's 2019 rotation. Luis Vazquez is hitting below .200 and striking out more, though he still has strong Isos, so...
