Re: 2018 Draft Thread

Oregon State OF Trevor Larnach had a 3.034 OPS this weekend. BA has him ranked 92nd in their draft board rankings but he clearly jumped quite a bit on draft boards this weekend. He's a standout in that big Alex Lange CWS game against Oregon State, which can be found on Youtube. Not sure Larnach act...

Re: International Free Agency Thread 2018-2019

Julio Pablo Martinez was granted his free agency. The top 3 teams interested in him are the Marlins, Yankees and Rangers. MLB's annual international showcase is this week in Santo Domingo. Ben Badler had a piece on some of the top prospects in the showcase. None are linked to the Cubs, though he do...

Re: Offseason Transactions

With how many pitchers are still available I’m not surprised Odorizzi didn’t go for a ton, especially the year he is coming off of and costing $6 million this year and probably 9-10 next year. That being said I’m surprised they decided to sell low unless they think he’s going to stay replacement le...

Re: 2018 Cubs ZiPS Projections

My bookie/site doesn’t have O/U yet but based on what I see I like Brewers (gonna wait on them until they add a SP because it will probably get bet up), Angels, Dodgers, Rockies, Orioles, Rangers, Jays, and Cardinals (one of them or Brewers is going under and a decent chance for both) unders then l...

I want the Jets to sign him if they land Cousins but bet they'll probably spend closer to $10 million a year more on Jarvis Landry to do the same job.

Re: 2018 Draft Thread

https://twitter.com/keithlaw/status/964152594011770881 It's an ESPN Insider article. His list is pretty different from other lists I've seen so far. He has Florida RHP - B. Singer really low at #22, and LHP - S. McClanahan at #13, which also seems too low. He has N. Madrigal way too low for an adva...

Re: 2018 Draft Thread

Interesting HS bat in 6’2” switch hitting MIF/3B Bryce Reagan:

He has a rangy and projectable frame, might get to a Zobrist-esque 6’3” 210. Seems like a similar prospect to the SS they signed from Mexico last year Luis Verdugo.

Fair enough, though his changeup did go from a 23% whiff rate in 2016 to 19% in 2017 per Brooks Baseball

It’s interesting. Hendricks was a weird pitcher even before his fastball averaged 86 MPH. Shallow repertoire, declining velocity, decling whiff rates, missed time with an upper body and throwing arm injury, more flyballs and hard contact....Smoke!

Dark horse candidate: Hendricks fails miserably Oh, I like it. Didn’t Epstein once comment that these sinkerballing pitchers have very short peaks? Hendricks has never developed a good breaking ball, which is going to bite him in the ass at some point. Switch Montgomery for Alec Mills without the n...

Re: Which Crazy Surprise Things Will Happen?

Darvish and Almora Almora, like everyone, joins the feeding frenzy on offense started by Bryant (increasing gap) and Rizzo. Darvish is legit, one of those guys who will really shine pitching in front of this offense. Other crazy surprises: - Steve Cishek is the bullpen MVP with stiff competition fro...

Re: NFL Offseason

Good list. These are the types of guys I want the Bears to look at. Teams usually regret star chasing in free agency in the NFL, unless they are at the point where they are that 1 star player away from being an elite team. I'd also add: Junior Galette- he's turning 30 and going to be 4 years remove...

They broke Prior and passed on signing Beltran.

This signing is starting to sink in...Owners winning yet again, Epstein’s [expletive] born with a silver spoon yuppie Quintana/Darvish brag (that guy can go horsefeathers a goat after that), and personal prejudice against TJ aside, the first two are rough to move past and a turnoff, this signing is ...

I wouldn’t vote him into the HOF but Pettitte’s a whole lot better than that. There’s so many crappy pitchers, he gave some 3700 above average and sometimes outstanding innings all during the steroid era.
