Re: The Bryce is Right, Bitch

Which doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things because if they don't move another $20+ million this will be their 3rd consecutive year over and the penalties start getting really ridiculous. EDIT: And they just blew most of that on Joe Kelly. The Dodgers were under the tax line last year...

Re: The Bryce is Right, Bitch

i think it probably has to do with their presumably having more tradeable money than we do. Like we would have to work pretty hard to move enough money (heyward, chatwood etc) while they can surely find a taker for Puig without much trouble. They are also currently 9 million under cap and we are ov...

Re: The Bryce is Right, Bitch

Has that poster from pro sports daily who actually knows stuff said anything this offseason? That one dude ABTY or whatever it was threw a fit awhile back and now mostly rants and raves about the Bears on Twitter. There was another guy, Marlin, I think, who knew some stuff. I only ever lurked on th...

Re: Ronald Torreyes is now a Cub

If he has options left is he just the Mike Freeman replacement? Or is he the replacement for Russell if he’s non-tendered or traded? He’s a cheaper option and not all that much worse than the Hechavarria’s, etc’s of the world. His fielding numbers at SS seem good enough and he has a ~.270/.320/.330...

I take back what I said earlier then. That'd be an outstanding move if possible It’s a benefit that’s wasted on Arizona. They aren’t going near the tax anyway. You’d think if they can’t offload his contract in another trade they would be willing to swap him for a bad salary player that can play for...

Re: The 2018-2019 Cubs Offseason Rumors & Discussion Thread - "On wrongs swift vengeance waits..."

MLBTR this week put together a really good list of contract swap candidates: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/11/2018-19-contract-swap-candidates.html There's a lot of interesting names here, but one really jumped out to me. Yasmany Tomas is owed $32.5 million the next two years by the Dbacks, h...

Re: Realistic Trade Targets

I don’t know if it’s realistic, but Robbie Ray would be great if Arizona is blowing it up.

If they lose out on Harper or get Machado, Castellanos from Detroit could be a good target.

Scooter Gennett? Jon Gray? Cesar Hernandez? Whit Merrifield?

Re: According to Kaplan, KB turned down 200 Mill Extension

So they probably don’t give a horsefeathers about their AAV being more than $40 mil over the tax. If they gave Bryant 10 years at well over $200 then they are increasing his 2019 number by $10 mil or more. You don’t do that if you have to stay within $40 mil of the tax and have other needs.

If you're dealing Schwarber or Happ, my guess is we target one of Joe Jimenez, Taylor Rogers, Yates or Castillo from the Pads, some of Atlanta's arms, or Seranthony Dominguez. If you did that, add Robertson, and bring back Chavez..... Our pen looks extremely good, to say the least. I’d hate trading...

The reason not to go over is because no one has, as of yet. And with the next CBA looming and definitely going to be extremely contentious...... Seeing a team go past the upper limit, it gives the players side more credence. Since the LOW end of the LT should be pushing 275 right now, based on curr...

Re: The way too early, but I'm bored, Off-season Options Thread

Maybe they will trade Schwarber, but Theo’s first complaint about the offense was that they stopped hitting homers and stopped taking walks in the 2nd half. Schwarber hit 26 HRs in 510 PAs and had a 15.3% walk rate. Getting rid of him does not help those problems. Maybe it’s wishful thinking, but I ...

I was going to write a devil's advocate type of response but I...am having a hard time. The future certainly doesn't look as bright these days. Everything he wrote is true. But it’s not hard to write an optimistic version of the same thing. Outfield - Schwarber was a 3.5 war player with an opportun...

Re: Regular Season Rumors

Only if it’s irrevocable waivers the claiming team is forced to take. If it’s revocable both teams can decide not to do anything. Is that new? It didn't used to be that way. Teams have gotten stuck with guys before. Only if they claim a guy on irrevocable are they “stuck” with him. Revocable both s...

Re: 2018 Draft Thread

I haven't followed draft prospects very closely this year. What's the deal with Seth Beer? Statistically, he looks so much better than the other college bats mocked in the late first, but he isn't a first round pick in most mock drafts. Is his defense that bad? First base/DH only? He is indeed cons...

Re: Cubs sign Tyler Chatwood for 3/$38M

For every positive thing I find (statcast data, GB rate) there is something that offsets it (walk rate, strikeout rate). Can’t really say if I like it, but I don’t hate it. How’s that for analysis? I trust the research and analysis capability of the FO though. Agreed. I see why people are excited a...

I don't think it's a flaw with anything. I just think fWAR/FIP can't be blindly applied and FIP beaters do exist. Is Chatwood a FIP beater? His ERA is pretty close to his FIP and almost identical to his xFIP for his career. It looks to me like he's getting the results that he has deserved to this p...

Again, i personally am not opposed to this deal. I just don't think it's a hot take to be puzzled by this. A reasonable person can look at this and say that it's not a good idea. That doesn't mean they are correct. It just means it's a fair take. Will you think this isn't a good deal if we sign Oht...
