Re: Bears 2018 Offseason: Matt Nagy Hired as Head Coach

Shouldn't the Browns take Barkley #1 and then take whatever QB is left at #4?

Is there really anything that meaningfully separates these top 4 QBs? None of these guys is Peyton Manning.

Re: Minor League Musings place holder.

Dario Alvarez has one option year left and Shae Simmons has two, but they also have the right to elect free agency if sent down . I'm almost 100% certain that this is not true. The Cubs can option them freely, but, if the Cubs remove them from the 40-man roster and attempt to send them to the minor...

Re: Darvish to Cubs, 6/$126 Million + Incentives

I’m fine with an opt out after 2 years, would’ve hoped it was 3 but whatever. I wonder what the actual cash outlay is in the deal, wouldn’t be surprised if he’s getting around $60 million the first 2 years. That would mean for luxury tax calculations for the next two years, it would put the Cubs at...

Re: Minor League Musings place holder.

If Alzolay is our best pitching prospect, we're doomed. Guy looks like a reliever. Strop-ish. There's nothing wrong with that, but as your top guy? Ouch.

Re: Cubs Offseason Rumors

I'm not sure how I feel about Britton in particular, but, if you're going to trade prospects for a free agent to be, the offseason is the time to do it so you can offer a QO and collect the draft choice to partially offset the acquisition cost.

Re: Trading Heyward

I don't understand why all 3 having NTC is such a big deal. What indicator is there that Shark or Melancon would turn down a trade to Chicago? Heyward is a legitimate question, but Brett in particular has been talking up 3 NTC as this inhuman obstacle. Yes it's another thing to consider, but the od...

Re: Offseason Transactions

I believe $17.4 would make Davis the highest paid reliever in the Majors for the season. I believe Chapman is at $17.2 and Jansen’s contract is backloaded, making $10 this year before jumping up to $18 in 2019 and beyond. So it really depends on what offers he gets. If he’s getting offers like 3 ye...

Odor hit 30 home runs with a slugging percentage below .400. That's got to be hard to do. I wonder how many times that's been done in the history of MLB.

Could also be that he wanted to remain a Yankee and they told him they wouldn't be involved in the bidding if he opted out.

All seems pretty reasonable, except:

Unless, of course, you're talking about trading for Ed Archer, Chris' older, much less talented and successful brother.

Re: Playoff Roster?

if it turns out Jake is good to go, they could add Rondon back in for the NLCS, right? Yes, you get the opportunity to pick a 25 man roster each round. Last year they took out a position player for another reliever for the NLCS, probably because of the 5 to 7 game series shift. They added the eight...

Cubs 40-man roster appears to be at 41. What am I missing? Did they move someone to the 60-day DL that hasn't been announced?

Three option years - 2018, 2019, 2020. At least six calendar years of control before he becomes a free agent.

Just FYI...

The player link in the mlbtraderumors.com article points to the wrong Caleb Smith.

The right guy (as correctly shown in the initial post in this thread):
