Re: General Cubs Chit-Chat

I think Theo is pretty clearly still a well above average GM. That being said, the difference between the best and worst FO's is shrinking rapidly, and in our market we'll always be able to attract someone from the top half of the pool. Given that, I completely understand If someone wanted to kick T...

From my quick perusal of the play logs it also looks like 8 of 13 balls in play were on the ground (62%)

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 8-14-19

I tend to throw out whatever a college guy does the summer after being drafted, good or bad. On the one hand the Northwest league is a substantial step down from the SEC/PAC 10 so they should dominate, but on the other hand these guys are usually horsefeathering GASSED after having started their sea...

I would guess, as someone in the comments says, indefinitely here is literally "we're still figuring out how long you're suspended for" and less "you're going away for a long time, pal."

Next year I think. I think this was a direct concession to get to the 26th man on the roster.

Pretty balanced schedule, no really light stretches but no brutal ones either. *Maybe* mid April through Mid May if the Padres do a bunch this winter?

Re: Minor League Musings

We have a decent amount of middle relief option in Iowa between Underwood, Mills, Mekkes, Maples, Brooks, etc. I wonder how many get a look for a role next year with Kintzler, Cishek, Strop contracts all up. Also pointing out we're on page 69. Nice Yeah, right now the only lock for the bullpen is K...

Reasons for optimism regarding the Bears' schedule, as we face four of these five teams. At the end of the day it may end up being more tough than brutal.

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 8-3-19

I don't think it's an amazing farm system given the lack of blue chippers and with how much of the really fun stuff is still only in A ball, but I think it's laughable that this is a bottom 5 farm. I fully expect it to "magically" move into the teens in November when outlets redo their ran...

Re: Brad Brach DFA'd

Probably because he is still signed for next year so they are going to give him all of spring training and the first couple weeks next season before he gets the boot. This, provided he's willing to continue to fake an injury the rest of this month. Brach was probably going to be around next year to...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 7-30-19

I understand that midseason lists have a lot more inertia tied to them than offseason ones, but Davis is a top 100 prospect at this point and to say otherwise is laughable. Also, Jack Patterson turning into a thing is fun. I'd assume ultimately a reliever but still can't complain about essentially f...

Curious what this means. Probably no Sogard, but I'm hoping it doesn't mean no power bat either.

Re: Cubs go Dutch with Giants, acquire Holland

Holland is very solid against lefties, so I could see him being strong in a more traditional short reliever role than he's been used in to this point. Kind of like De La Rosa last year.

As long as this isn't the only pen move I'm cool with it

I like him as a target and he shouldn’t cost much https://twitter.com/mike_petriello/status/1154790760056856576?s=21 Relievers are so weird. I went from reading this post, to saying to myself "who is that? sounds made up" to loading up his FG page, to falling in love all in about 45 secon...

Re: Happ is Back

Curious to see the roster machinations over the next week between this and what seems likely to be multiple trades. Descalso is an easy casualty, but beyond that do we just see some combo of Vic/Robel/Almora/Bote sent to Iowa, or do we see someone(s) like Schwarber sent out via trade.

Re: Piece of Garbage Sent to Iowa

i uh...think that Descalso is the backup SS now I posted this in a game thread, but there's only one week without an off day until September. Russell is going to hang out in Iowa in case god forbid there's an injury, but thanks to the schedule Javy could probably ironman it until 9/1. If that's too...

Re: Trade targets 2019

Undecided on whether I would hate Castellanos and Greene for Caratini and others no one cares about losing. Greene's FIP is 3x his ERA so I'm not real sure he makes the pen a lot better. Are you worried about Theo paying some crazy Chapman style ransom? Greene is good, so unless you're worried that...

Re: Trade targets 2019

Jarrod Dyson is an interesting if unexciting option. I wonder if because the market lacks a do-everything option in CF (Unless you trust Mitch Haniger's testicles) the plan is to bring in pieces so that we can mix and match depending on the option. Maybe they are thinking something like this: - Schw...
