Re: Minor League Musings

Because this isn't the only factor that makes these guys' numbers unreliable - It's SSS, as at absolute best you're looking at 2.5 months, more like 1.5 if a guy makes a deep CWS run - The fatigue thing - Guys from SEC are playing levels of competition well below what they're used to (which is why ...

Re: Minor League Musings

There is a world of diff btw acknowledging the possibility of late season draft year fatigue and essentially dismissing July++ in the pros on that possibility. Why not just adjust expectations? For instance - Ryan Jensen walked guys during his debut. Otherwise hitters couldn't touch him, couldn't s...

Re: Minor League Musings

Nick: Andrew Vaughn’s had a decent pro debut the numbers don’t jump off the page the way I would have expected them to so far. Maybe there’s some fatigue after a long season. What do you make of his first taste of pro ball? For a player whose value is almost entirely tied up in his bat, I would hav...

Re: "Time makes fools of us all" - The Kyle Schwarber Thread

His season line right now with a 25% K rate is only a 112. wrc+. So how do you see him "handily" topping 120 while staying at 25%? I personally only see one way: a de-juiced ball leading his .840 OPS to be more impressive on a league adjusted basis. If you think his K rate is going to con...

Re: "Time makes fools of us all" - The Kyle Schwarber Thread

If this last month+ is a real breakout, then absolutely. More likely though is it's just a nice hot streak. He's cut his K rate to 25% this year, which is great, but if homeruns continue to be as cheap in 2020 as they have been in 2019, at 25% his offensive ceiling is still limited to like a 120 wr...

Re: "Time makes fools of us all" - The Kyle Schwarber Thread

This is underselling his approach. He's cut his Ks again, walks a ton, and is hitting with more power...Without looking at anything else those are breakout ingredients If this last month+ is a real breakout, then absolutely. Re: "Time makes fools of us all" - The Kyle Schwarber Thread

I think for me the Schwarber question is really a juiced ball question. If you think the 2019 ball is the new normal, that makes his prodigious power much less valuable and he simply doesn't do enough other stuff to make him more than an average player. And that comes with some pretty annoying limi...

Saw him when he was at Park West last fall and he did what I assume was an earlier cut of this special. The material got pretty heavy at points but it didn't feel that way because he's just so relentlessly charming and positive now.

Hmmn... Omitting Amaya ... maybe that's why they had us with the 29th overall farm system recently ... They also didn't have Chris Morel in their recent top 30, which is ludicrous. They obviously fell off a lot when Jim Callis left, since he's basically the Mike Trout of minor league stuff. But I f...

Re: Stand Up Comedy and Comedians are Awesome Chit Chat

IMO part of it too is that most comedians have a shelf life of only like 3 or 4 hour specials before they fall off, whether due to creative fatigue or becoming out of touch. Basically this happens: https://youtu.be/Z1wvnwv93Pg Like, I've seen Dave live three times since his comeback, and even ignori...

I'm very early on, but Control is really cool. The telekinesis aspect is awesome, although it has the unfortunate side effect of making me sad for the Half Life series being dead and buried.

Re: Chicago Bears offseason

According to nfl.com they just gave Whitehair a 5 year extension... 52 million, 27 guaranteed. Figured this was coming as they moved around some cap hits the other week. Yeah this was expected, but good to see pen to paper. I thought I read they had $20+ million free, so I'm curious where the rest ...

Nelson Velazquez has quietly been awesome since coming off the IL. .291/.355/.504, with a 9.2% BB rate and a 24.8% K rate. K's are obviously still a little high, but overall really good stuff from a toolsy 20 year old in the Midwest league. Myrtle Beach is going to be horsefeathering fun next year

Re: Kris Bryant is awesome and we were always right to love him

Yeah I think it works if you bring in another star. Rendon is the most obvious, but there's a million permutations. For example, you could sign Rendon for 10/250ish and trade Kris to the Rays for Austin Meadows and Brendan McKay. You're comparable at 3b while only getting ~5M more expensive, and us...

I follow the minors pretty closely and if you had asked me 10 minutes ago who Jordan Minch is I would have said "oh yeah that's one of the Cespedes BBQ kids."

Really glad that Thompson is healthy enough to make it though.

Re: It’s not me, it’s Yu

78:3 K:BB in July and August combined. It's really surpring to me that he's only the 30th best pitcher in terms of fWAR in that stretch, at 1.1. Quintana is 13th at 1.7. Verlander is the one that is most confusing. I get all the home runs, but look at these two lines. Darvish: 62 IP, 11.32 K/9, 0.4...

For several weeks now I keep getting ads from Conservative Buzz with polls for “Is the media fair to Trump?” or “Are Dems trying to take your guns?”. Re: Chicago Bears offseason

This bears season is scary because the last few years have been structured for a window that was pretty much last year and this year. It gets dicey fast as you look into the future. While I think you're mostly right the window is more like three years: last year/this year/next year. After year 4 fo...

Kendall Graveman made a rehab start in the AZL. Thats a 2020 depth, like the 7-8th SP, signing I can see turning out well if they pick up the option Graveman was a guy I really wanted prior to the 2018 season. Obviously you worry about any guy coming off of TJ, especially when they weren't exactly ...

The only good argument for this terrible signing.

Assuming Morrow isn't also an avid Trump supporter

IIRC Morrow is pretty vocally liberal. It's basically him and Sean Doolittle.
