Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 6-15-18

DJ Wilson pinch ran last night, so he's back. I know a lot of shine is off that apple but considering the dearth of position players at the upper levels it's still good to have him back. Maybe he can do like last year and go on a post DL tear. Maybe that's his thing.

Re: General Cubs Chit-Chat

https://twitter.com/Cubs/status/1006962092405084161 So I thought I noticed this, but wasn't sure... are Russell and Zobrist incorporating a "Hadouken!" into their handshake at the 0:02 mark in the gif? Sure looks like it to me lol. That's pretty awesome if true. For people who don't know ...

Re: Minor League Musings place holder.

I remember Brett at BN had a nice writeup on Amaya a year or two ago and I've kept an eye on him since. Glad to see his raking. What are the thoughts on Ademan now? He's struggling at the plate but still has loads of potential and is young for the level, right? As a 19 year old shortstop in High A,...

Re: Minor League Musings place holder.

More accolades on Amaya from a recent Jeff Passan prospect report... seems like we may have a new #1 prospect by seasons end . Miguel Amaya, C, Chicago Cubs (Low-A): One scout said he’s the best player in the Midwest League. Another said he’s one of the five best catching prospects in baseball. For...

Re: 2018 Actual MLB Draft Day(s) Thread

No offense, but I think you have unrealistic expectations. The thing to keep in mind is how tough the draft is for everyone. Getting, say, a quality starting player, a bench player, and a bullpen arm is actually a great outcome from a given draft. Getting two starting caliber players is fantastic. G...

Re: 2018 Actual MLB Draft Day(s) Thread

I think I like Davis. I love high end athletes, especially with our player development system there to make sure they learn how to hit. That said, I don't like that it appears that we punted pick #78 to sign him. I'm not even sure if I would have been okay with that for one of the guys that were exp...

Re: 2018 Actual MLB Draft Day(s) Thread

93. Brennen Davis, OF, Basha High School, Chandler, Arizona. Davis started his season late because he was playing basketball, and his best tool, his speed, was seldom on display because of a hamstring injury. He's a very likely center fielder with a chance to end up plus there, bringing bigger ques...

Lemahieu

College bat who squares everything up and settles as an above average defensive 2B

That's a good call. I can totally see that.

Re: 2018 Actual MLB Draft Day(s) Thread

KC has a bunch of picks today. I wonder if they had to punt one or more of them to keep Singer. Maybe worth it even if they did.

Re: 2018 Actual MLB Draft Day(s) Thread

So um, what if Singer is there at 24? I think it depends on $$. There's a chance that the reason he hasn't gone yet is that it's a Mark Appel situation, where he has a high number and only like 3 teams can afford to make that work. But if he can be had without Ricky Williams-ing your draft, you got...

Re: 2018 Actual MLB Draft Day(s) Thread

BA's updated mock has the Cubs taking Jackson Kowar. I don't know that there are any pitchers I want at #24, but I feel like that is a pick I could be alright with. His scouting report basically reads like Michael Wacha's when he was coming out. I really like Connor Scott, who Keith Law tied us to ...

Re: 2018 Draft Thread

Rolison is my worst case scenario. Or very close anyway. All day yesterday, I was thinking Edwards was our guy. But seeing Callis and Law mock Seigler to us today, has me figuring it's him. Callis usually gets the Cubs right, doesn't he? Last year he mocked Nate Pearson and Drew Rasmussen (Little a...

Re: 2018 Draft Thread

It's hard to get a feel for who would be willing to cross that line. Yankees are obviously a good guess, they played the Chapman situation as sleazily as possible (aside, i do wonder if part of the reason Theo paid so far through the nose for him was to avoid those kinds of optics). I feel like the ...

Re: #NotAllPitchers

I just looked through on Gameday, and Clayton Kershaw only touched 90 MPH once during his start tonight. And that pitch was exactly 90.0. He'll get some velo back as he gets further away from his DL stint, but he's probably more All-Star than Cy Young going forward.
