Re: International Free Agency Thread 2018-2019

There is no way Manfred allows real money to be used for IFA money. The league doesn't like (doesn't allow?) straight money deals as is, something that would directly show that MLB is underpaying IFAs by 10x (or whatever the real number is) would be a real bad look. It's hard to say what those slots...

Re: Orioles are shopping Machado and the Cubs are interested per Gordo

Part of the narrative with the flood of Machado articles yesterday is the Cubs offense is too boom or bust. Which, I don't know if there's any information or metrics out there that are readily available that measures it but if I had to guess the Cubs offense is no more boom or busty than any other ...

If they think he's actually a CF I could get behind that pick. Even as a RF I might not mind it if he's under slot.

Re: The Cardinals

Miles Mikolas signing looking pretty good through two months of the season. About to go to 6-0 with a complete game shutout of the “Hot Mess” Royals on 108 pitches. His ERA is sub 2.30. When will he begin to suck? Or will this be another “horseshoe up their a$$” find for St. Louis? It's probably an...

Re: General Cubs Chit-Chat

Why in the world would we trade for a starter. What a dumb horsefeathering idea with no common sense thought. Do these guys not look at rosters and think logically about roster construction for a second? I could see trading for a starter if things don't get better (I think they will), but Hamels ma...

Re: TV thread

I really hope Tina Fey makes another show quickly, I've been rewatching Kimmy Schmidt Season 3 and I just love the rapid fire style from it and 30 Rock so much. I haven't watched too much and Fey isn't as directly involved as in Kimmy Schmidt and 30 Rock, but Great News might help scratch that itch...

I wonder if this knocks him out of the Hall. Barring a Pujolsian collapse he was getting in, but now I could see him languishing in Sosa/McGwire territory.

So of the core players, is Rizz the first with an expiring contract? Who is next? Pitching, Q and Lester with one more year? https://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/CHC/chicago-cubs-salaries-and-contracts.shtml FA's by year post-2018: Wilson 2019: Strop, Zobrist, Cishek, Smyly, Duensing 2020: Hend...

I love how Theo seemingly goes out of his way to undercut Wittenmeyer.

I wish he was similarly vindictive with Kaplan.

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 5-9-18

Do we know how hard Hudson is throwing these days? Because he's still pretty young and those Fielding Independent numbers are solid. If/when he some of that projectable velocity from draft time becomes realized velocity he could become a thing pretty quick. Also, I didn't realize Hatch spent all of ...

Re: Orioles are shopping Machado - (Cubs in talks per Levine)

I don't expect the division to end up all that close, and I don't think a Machado deal makes sense unless it stays this close into late July. Even then, I'm not comfortable giving up pieces beyond Addy except for fringe guys like Tseng/Zagunis/etc. While I prefer Harper, I could probably be convince...

Re: General Cubs Chit-Chat

Does anyone know when Patrick Mooney changed from being a pretty good (if slightly boring) beat writer to being Captain Doom Boner? It feels like it happened very suddenly, and he's gotten really bad.

He got like this at the end of his time at CSN, so I don't know that we can blame the Athletic.

Re: TV thread

https://twitter.com/arresteddev/status/991361672605523971 This is really exciting. The two big problems with season 4 were that most people were siloed off from each other and that some of the episodes (the Lindsey and Geaorge Sr. ones especially) were really bloated. The former can't be fixed but ...

Re: Corey Seager Done For Season, Tommy John Surgery

Even 7 games back I felt confident the Dodgers were gonna rip off like 25 of 35 at some point and still win the division handily, but I think at this point the Dbacks have to be considered pretty solid favorites to hold on. Like the Dodgers are still better, but not enough to overcome that head start.

Re: Bears 2018 Offseason: Matt Nagy Hired as Head Coach

Pace gets an A from me this off-season. What say you guys? I like Pace and think we've had a very good offseason, however I think the Kyle Fuller and Cam Meredith situations were pretty big unforced errors that make me hesitant to give him an A. Overall I'm very happy with where the team is though....

Re: THE Bryce Harper in 2018 Thread

I would guess Plan A is to dump Heyward, and Plan B is Zobrist. I also wonder about Chatwood. Lets say Alzolay has a good year at Iowa this year, and Lange pitches half the season at AA and does well. I could see them dumping Chatwood and his $13m since they'd have those two plus Smyly to fill out t...

Re: Bears 2018 Offseason: Matt Nagy Hired as Head Coach

So I'm kind of walking myself into being on board with the trade last night. I think we definitely needed to add a high level WR prospect at some point over the next year, and so we paid the 4th to do it now instead of next year. Why do I like getting the pick a year early? The Bears should be thin...
