Re: It’s not me, it’s Yu

Sounds like the plan is for Yu to have rehab starts on the 19th, 24th, and 29th, which would bring him back around Labor Day for the Brewers series.

Looks like Roquan's money can only be voided if he's a Vontaze Burfict level sociopath on the field, which seems fair. Glad it was the Bears that caved, they were in the wrong.

Re: David Bote is a Golden God and Deserves His Own Thread

Bote isn't going anywhere. But I can definitely see one or two of Addy, Almora, and Happ being shipped out for pitching. This is what I'm expecting. I think we sign Bryce or Manny, deal one of those three (likely Happ if Harper. Russell if Machado) for pitching, and Bote takes Seal Boy's roster spo...

Re: How much is 1 WAR worth?

538 currently has them at 26% to win the WS, which seems bonkers. I always thought anything really higher than 15% during the regular season was really kinda pointless. It is. Just running some quick numbers, if you were favored in every single playoff game 57/43, you'd have a 26.6% chance of winni...

Re: Cole Hamels: Somehow Justin Verlander

Someone (Duke) tell me this is sustainable As a Cub he's throwing 93.6 mph. His high for a season is 93.7. Now that's skewed because most guys throw softer in April and then ramp it up. but his velocity is nearly nearly where it was in his prime. My guess is he's not back to being an ace, but there...

Re: Cubs Sign Jorge De La Rosa

De La Rosa at least looks like he can still get lefties out reasonably well. It's not much but with Duensing and Rosario unable to clear that low bar it should be an upgrade.

Re: Baez impresses Baez

While Javy is objectively swinging at more pitches both in and out of the strikezone, I would guess that if we had the numbers we'd find that the quality of pitches he's swinging at is a lot better. To me it seems like he's swinging at far fewer "what the horsefeathers are you doing" type ...

Re: David Bote is a Golden God and Deserves His Own Thread

Yeah I'm not super high on the predictive power of launch angle and exit velocity, despite the fact that you'd think they'd be incredible for that. Pre-statcast we'd handwave all sorts of small sample size stuff away as luck that's unlikely to repeat itself....and most of the time we'd be right. Now...

Re: THE Bryce Harper in 2018 Thread

If somehow we could convince Kershaw to opt out after this year and pay him 6 years/185-200 million, we might be better off than Harper at 10yrs./350 million. Kershaw certainly fills a bigger need than Harper, especially with the emergence of Bote possibly moving Bryant to the OF . https://i.giphy....

Re: Cubs trade Eloy, Cease, others for Quintana

I'm not too worried about losing Eloy. Even with him destroying AAA it's doubtful that he's much more than Schwarber. Maybe we chose the wrong arm to cash him in for, but using him to shore up the rotation was absolutely the right move. Cease is looking more and more likely to actually be something,...

Re: David Bote is a Golden God and Deserves His Own Thread

Russell is about to start getting expensive and plays great defense and doesn't do horsefeathers on offense. I can find that guy a ton cheaper and get value for a guy that hopefully others think isn't horsefeathers. I'd love to see a list of such guys. Just go find the next Nick Ahmed or a younger ...

Re: David Bote is a Golden God and Deserves His Own Thread

Yeah, that might not even get half of Trout. Why would a team trade the best player of this generation for a crappy Russell, crappy Almora, Happ and some not top-5 MLB prospects? Russell is an above average everyday player who is 24. He isn't crappy. That's a laughable package for Trout, but he isn...

Re: Regular Season Rumors

I believe there's a clause in the CBA that says TJ guys can be on a rehab assignment for up to 30 days, so I'd imagine the plan is to bring him back right when rosters expand. Any sooner and it either says great things about his progress or terrible things about faith in our current pitchers.

Re: Regular Season Rumors

Meadows and Glassnow feels pretty comparable to something like Happ and Alzolay. Pirates guys with a little more risk/reward. I don't know that I would have paid that for Archer but I don't know that I wouldn't have either.

Re: Kintzler to Cubs close

Extremely Meh

If we were going to grab someone so pedestrian. I would have preferred someone who really excels in one particular area. Now that Kintzler's groundball rate has evaporated, he's just thoroughly mediocre at everything.

Re: Regular Season Rumors

Matt Harvey is clearly not broken anymore and if you're a glass half full guy you might even call him average.
However, even with our rotation's struggles there's no one I'd want him to replace post-Chatwood.

Re: Regular Season Rumors

I would feel okay if the Cubs opted to go dumpster diving for relief help on the waiver wire. I like Ziegler, but I don't think they have the farm to trade for a high level reliever and I don't foresee anyone on the 25 man getting moved until the offseason. When you see what these RPs are going for...

He's a proven soft contact guy with an elite groundball rate who even in a down year is very strong against righties. He's basically a B+ Steve Cishek clone.

Re: Regular Season Rumors

I like the idea that the starter market is expensive, we already made a move and we hope that we can get at least 2-3 guys pitching well by the end of the season. So the next logical move is to stack the pen with guys and turn any playoff games into a bullpen fest. Just using Ziegler as a placehold...
