Re: Bears 2018 Offseason: Matt Nagy Hired as Head Coach

Of the guys who were questionable to cut I assumed he was the most likely to stay. I probably would have kept him AND drafted Nelson at #8 but oh well.

Re: 2018 Cubs ZiPS Projections

My bookie/site doesn’t have O/U yet but based on what I see I like Brewers (gonna wait on them until they add a SP because it will probably get bet up), Angels, Dodgers, Rockies, Orioles, Rangers, Jays, and Cardinals (one of them or Brewers is going under and a decent chance for both) unders then l...

Re: Hosmer to the Padres - 8 Years $144M

This signing is so weird. It requires you to make three pretty big assumptions. 1. He is legitimately good, and this being 'bad every other year' nonsense he's done for most of his career is done. 2. They're much further along than it looks like from the outside. In my opinion, buying a guy a year e...

Re: Which Crazy Surprise Things Will Happen?

Unfortunately I think Hendricks falling apart is the most likely by far. He's my favorite of our returning guys to watch pitch, but guys with well below average velocity are always walking a tightrope, and we saw him lose his velocity for much of last year already. When Hendricks goes bad, it's gonn...

Re: THE Bryce Harper in 2018 Thread

I assume in terms of roster composition Bryce would likely be a one for one swap with Heyward. How good Heyward is in 2018 determining how painful the process of getting him off the roster is. I can see two situations where it doesnt work like that though. First is if our rotation is in a bad place ...

Re: Darvish to Cubs, 6/$126 Million + Incentives

Much much thanks to TT/Xero and Bertz (for the start/chart) for the input and explanation/rationalization. VERY apprecited. So IF I have this "correct"....lets say the Cubs are in the "green" this year...ie: UNDER the tax threshold, and to make things easy and round for "ar...

Re: 2018 rotation

More than the sequence of the pitchers, I'm curious about how they'll manage usage. Chatwood is an extreme injury risk, Darvish a moderate injury risk and Lester is aging. I wonder if they go to a quasi-6 man rotation or if they play DL shenanigans during the season. Especially in the second half i...

Re: Darvish to Cubs, 6/$126 Million + Incentives

https://i.imgur.com/gvJm82N.png Here's the Cub's payroll outlook for the next few years with Darvish. I assume Gimenez will make more than the league minimum if he's in the majors, but haven't seen any details, otherwise 2018 should be pretty much locked in. To me the big takeaway is how well set u...

Astro's are probably still a little higher, and Dodgers are probably still about equal to us.

Here's the ZiPS projection for Yu in Chicago

Re: Darvish to Cubs, 6/$126 Million + Incentives

This is perfect. It's a good deal, but not so good that I feel guilty. Depending on how the incentives are structured this is pretty comparable to the Johnny Cueto deal, but swap an opt out for some cash incentives. Yu's better than Cueto was, but Cueto was younger and never had TJ. Also, Yu is one ...

Re: It turns out the real Yu Darvish was the friends we made in this thread

Sorry for bumping without an update. If the Brewers have the best offer out to Yu, doesn't that mean our offer is one in which the Cubs don't at all plan to get him but wanted to make sure they did their due diligence? I can't imagine the Brewers offer is THAT high, and if we are even lower, I can'...

Re: 2018 Cubs ZiPS Projections

PECOTA has the Cubs at 89 right now...they have the Dodgers at 99 (Brewers and Cardinals at 83 and 84, respectively). https://twitter.com/baseballpro/status/961240975430397954 Oher than LA, only the Cubs and Nats in the NL at 89 or better, while the AL has the Astros at 99, Indians at 97, and Yanke...

Re: The Yu Darvish Thread

It's crazy....the rumors have basically just died for most FAs from what I can see...I feel like guys like Yu are basically making their stand and are refusing to cave any more even if this drags on for another month. It's probably the right play, especially for the pitchers. Yeah there's not a ton...

Re: 2018 Cubs ZiPS Projections

ZiPS looks to, on a per inning basis, really like Alec Mills and kind of like Rob Zastryzny, which is good news for our rotation depth.

Re: The Yu Darvish Thread

We're in uncharted territory so there's room for either side to be logical, but I have a hard time seeing how 7 years is more likely than 4. Do we really think Darvish would have waited this long if he was sitting on a 6 year offer? And if he's not, how is he gonna get from 5 to 7? It strikes me mu...

Re: The Yu Darvish Thread

There is no way any team is giving him a 7-year deal. If that's the holdup, it may be well into the season before he signs. Who wants to pay a 39-year-old pitcher 25M/year? Can you imagine how far apart they must be if Theo is sticking with a 4-year deal and Darvish want's almost twice as long? I'd...

just sign cobb for 4/60 like we were supposed to 2 months ago nah Yeah, I have no interest in Cobb (or Arrieta or Lynn for that matter) anymore. Re: The Yu Darvish Thread

A glass half full read of what's happening with all this might be that Yu and the Cubs are really close to putting pen to paper and Yu''s reps are trying one last time to get someone else to swoop in and blow them away with an offer.

Re: The Yu Darvish Thread

I'll believe Darvish isn't getting 6 years when I see it. For all the worry about this year's FA market, all the guys who have signed have gotten what they're supposed to have gotten. As the best guy available I doubt Yu will have to settle.

IMG_1387.PNG Not sure if any of you follow Crawly, but he retweeted this this morning. Seems to trust this Charles the Cat guy. Re: Offseason Transactions

Yeah I think Santana gets you someone nice, but a tier below the Duffy/Salazar/Fulmer types. I think an Odorizzi or a Kendall Graveman or someone of that ilk. Actually the A's in general make a lot of sense. Santana for any non-Manaea starter they have looks about right.
