This feels a whole lot like the Samardzija/Hammel deal.

Or like when the Nats got Doolittle and Madson in the same deal. One stop shopping to fix the bullpen.

Re: General Cubs Chit-Chat

I wonder if Chatwood and Montgomery going the same day indicates that Chatwood is about to lose his spot in in the rotation, or if it's purely because they want those two pitching on a day where they have an extra bullpen arm available.

The source is Steve Phillips though, so let's not jump to conclusions yet. I mean five tweets ago he said this (the Jim here being Jim Bowden)

I have a feeling Josh Hader's twitter account is about to be featured prominently in this thread

Re: The Manny Machado Thread

Even though it makes October a little tougher the Dodgers getting Manny right before facing the Brewers 7 times in two weeks is awesome.

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 7-15-18

I don't get too excited about what a guy coming from the PAC 10 does in Low A, but if Hoerner has legit power to go along with all the other positives from his draft scouting report I think he's our best prospect. It wouldn't shock me, Happ's power was way undersold before the draft too.

Re: Regular Season Rumors

Sounds like we're tied to Zach Britton (again). I really the idea. His velocity was down in June (he probably rushed back too fast), but in July he's been throwing 95+ again and has reverted to being amazing. But given the injury and the salary I would imagine the player cost would still be relative...

Re: General Baseball Chit-Chat Thread

Who cares if we have fewer roll over GBs to infielders? It's not just that. MLB hitters are talking about how it's getting harder and harder to get base hits and just put the ball in play now. Defensive shifts, better and more detailed scouting reports, probably better catcher framing/presentation ...

Re: Regular Season Rumors

It's hard to say. DeGrom is likely the most valuable pitcher in baseball right now (Kluber?), but at the same time he is a pitcher. Happ and Almora both look like ~3 win guys right now with plenty of control. There's maybe not as much upside as one might like from the Mets POV, but short of like Vla...

Re: General Cubs Chit-Chat

I’ve definitely seen that sentiment here, not as bad or over the top or as prevalent as twitter and social media but I’ve seen it here. Sure, because to this point he's had an OK year at best, and, as pointed out, he's been a disappointment this season relative to expectations. Yeah, it's great his...

Re: General Cubs Chit-Chat

I think we need to differentiate between Q in '17 and Q in '18. In '17 he was exactly what he's always been and if that was disappointing it's really on you for having crazy expectations. Q in '18 is a totally different story. I haven't seen anything that makes me think he's irreparably broken, but ...

Re: Regular Season Rumors

I'd definitely trade DeGrom right now. He's good, but IMO he's more All Star good than the Cy Young level he's been on this far, he's likely at his apex right now. I'm fine with holding on to Thor though, his value is probably down a bit with all the injuries and the Mets aren't such a mess organiza...

Hee Seop Choi participated back in 2005 that was the wbc oddball one though. that doesn’t count Yeah I want to say the change happened because the HR leader at the time didn’t make the ASG, somehow,so they changed it to let him in. Maybe I’m not remembering correctly though. I believe it's this as ...

Re: The Manny Machado Thread

Isn’t most of their success this year based on timely hitting, production from players well over their careeer numbers, solid starting pitching, a really good bullpen, and a bunch of 1-run victories? Like Cubswin said the defense is the through line here. Their starting pitching in particular sucks...

Baltimore. Unless you didn't list them because dumb is way too positive of a description for them. Yeah Baltimore is a good call. Though I tend to think Duquette knows what he's doing and Angelos is just a nightmare, meaning their issues are more big picture and less not properly valuing guys in tr...

Re: Albert Amora Jr

I actually agree about the over-valued thing. It's not 2005 anymore, if his BABIP is really just a mirage that's not fooling anybody in the game to give up excess value for him. There are no dumb FO's anymore except maybe Colorado. Baltimore. Unless you didn't list them because dumb is way too posi...

Re: The Manny Machado Thread

JP Morosi makes it sound like the Brewers are the frontrunners for Machado. I'm torn on that. On the one hand obviously you don't want them getting good players, but on the other hand most of their success can be attributed to defense, and Manny at SS would piss all over that.

Heading back up at the end of the month. Would like to hit a museum or two (maybe Shedd Aquarium) and of course some great food places as well as drinking establishments. Planning on going to Chicago Pizza Oven & Grinder Company finally. Tried Pequod's last time I was there. Any other suggestio...

Re: General Baseball Chit-Chat Thread

The Nationals are 7 games behind the Braves. and 3.5 games behind the Phillies for the 2nd wild card, with 3 other teams between them. Like, I'm sure Bryce will go supernova soon and they'll win 20 of 25 and this will all be a distant memory by the time the season is over, but damn.
