Re: 2019-20 Offseason Rumors/General Chit-Chat

I think they’re way more concerned about LT value than absolute value, so i don’t see much benefit to backloading the first few years of a Baez (or Bryant) extension.

How long has he been accruing? If he's been there for ~20 years it could be a matter of a couple days a year adding up, but I get the sense that's not it.

Re: TV thread

Content quality aside, I've found the UI/search/tech/general organization/look of Disney+ and ESPN+ to be some of the worst I've ever seen from a streaming service. Like, when you make the Hulu side of things look gleaming and the height of professionalism, you know you've done horsefeathers up. I'...

Re: sometimes deck chairs need to be rearranged

But in those 6 you have Brendan Rogers and Kyle Tucker, both of which are much more valuable than Ian Happ. Agree to disagree, demonstrating you can make the leap to producing at the MLB level is the biggest jump, so even if they have higher ceilings(especially debatable for Tucker), I'm not going ...

Re: sometimes deck chairs need to be rearranged

The idea that they should be feathers in his cap is hinged on the end of last year, and you know it. And it would be great if that turns out to be the case long term, but come on; Happ especially is based on the tiniest of sample sizes. Both of these guys are still question marks to varying degrees...

Re: sometimes deck chairs need to be rearranged

You can debate how much credit Jason McLeod should get for developing Kris Bryant, college player of the year, or the one year Kyle Schwarber spent in the minors before he made it to the pros (or the year and a half for Ian Happ). I would argue not a lot, but that's easy to say because they turned ...

Re: 2020 roster

What am I missing. Hedges is strong defensively but can't hit. Margot is strong defensively but can't hit. Munoz is enticing, but I think there's a very high chance Lamet, who only really throws 2 pitches, winds up a reliever as well. Hedges and Margot you're banking on them hitting better with a di...

Lamet is becoming more intriguing than Gray to me in a potential Willy trade https://www.beyondtheboxscore.com/2019/11/14/20957997/san-diego-padres-stephen-strasburg-chris-paddack-dinelson-lamet-sale-bauer-hill-bumgarner As a thought exercise, Contreras, Quintana, and a few million for Lamet, Margo...

Re: Politics & Current Events

So I have a friend that Im trying to convert from Trumpism. This dude is actually smart, there are just two hurdles that he’s unable to overcome. First and foremost, his political mind is fox news polluted (I actually got him to agree today to let me block fox news on his TV). Second, he’s never be...

Re: sometimes deck chairs need to be rearranged

Are we giving no credit to the Cubs for all the bullpen finds from 2019? They've taken guys that had (at best) iffy results elsewhere and developed them into solid contributors: Rowan Wick Kyle Ryan Alec Mills Brad Wieck Not to mention that Underwood actually looks like he maybe perhaps could final...

Re: sometimes deck chairs need to be rearranged

I think we would all prefer that they don't effectively botch the last two windows of this obviously very successful offensive push because they're not able to pick up the pitching end of things enough. I don't think McLeod brings anything irreplaceable to the table, and, yeah, maybe it's meathead ...

Re: sometimes deck chairs need to be rearranged

Also TT is more than capable of answering for himself but I think all he’s trying to say is that it’s an issue a lot of teams face when they aren’t picking high with developing SPs. They weren’t surprised by anything, if anything they were very aware of it and it’s why they stayed away from pitchin...

Re: sometimes deck chairs need to be rearranged

Starters are a little different animal. If you look at the last few years, the correlation between starters who are above average, and especially those who are consistently above average, is really closely correlated to being a high draft pick and/or a high bonus arm. There's a shockingly low numbe...

Re: sometimes deck chairs need to be rearranged

As far as relievers go, I think they've been a bit below average for multiple reasons, but they should've been able to avoid needing so many deals with the Kintzlers, Brachs, and Duensings of the world with better development. Starters are a little different animal. If you look at the last few years...

https://twitter.com/JeffPassan/status/1195005315286106112 I posted a link earlier in the thread showing how much better the Astros were against sliders than everyone else the last 3 years. Guess who the only other team with a positive run value against sliders was? https://y.yarn.co/1e2da7ac-1af3-4...

Re: Kris Bryant is awesome and we were always right to love him

If paying Bryant ~6 million a year more than is comfortable is what it takes, then I'm on board right away. I won't try to convince everyone it's the best decision in the world, but especially if you're mitigating risk by making it 8 years from today instead of Free Agency it's easy for me to talk m...
