Re: McCutchen to the Giants

McCutchen at 1/15 doesn't have a lot of value, so the return doesn't surprise me too much. Seems like the Pirates plan is to: - Hope a couple of their higher end prospects pan out(Polanco, Bell, Meadows, Taillon, Glasnow) - Shore up their roster to eliminate glaring holes(getting Moran and Musgrove ...

Re: McCutchen to the Giants

They didn't have much of a choice, but the Giants are really leaning into the path the Tigers went down a few years back.

Also they'd show you the money right now but it actually goes to a different school that's far away.

Re: Starting Pitching candidates

Also, that's not that bad a package for the Pirates. There's no superstar potential headliner, but the Cubs equivalent is in the neighborhood of Happ, Montgomery, Maples, and a prospect. I can respect the idea that if you're trading Cole it's a somewhat rare opportunity to add star-level upside, but...

Re: Offseason Transactions

Are they planning on Reyes being a pen only option this year or are they going to try and get him to start (with his innings likely being very limited and watched I'd guess bullpen route with maybe a handful of starts)? I could see them going after Colome now. My understanding is he'll start in the...

Re: Offseason Transactions

I wonder if they promised him the closer role and go him a little cheaper and he probably wasn’t interested/wanted more money to come here (or to another team) who couldn’t guarantee that I'm more surprised the Cardinals didn't make that happen. Gregerson, Lyons, and Cecil are all fine to good reli...

Re: Offseason Transactions

In the abstract I'd have given Reed that for sure. Morrow + Cishek + maybe Darvish v. Morrow + Reed + stronger maybe Cobb is a debate worth having, although Reed's willingness to come to a team that signed Morrow is probably a factor.

Re: Cubs arbitration eligibles

OK, so 2.25 means 150k versus 200k. That makes sense. That said, I guess that number goes up every time during the season a guy goes on the DL and a guy comes up. So, maybe we need to save a bit more just for those occurrences? Cobb at a 15 mill AAV and a low rent backup C seems the most likely sce...

Re: Cubs arbitration eligibles

FWIW, you gain an extra million by using the real numbers and not rounding to the hundred thousands. If you assume Caratini at backup C, Montgomery as the 5th starter, and a 4 man bench you have 36.8 million to play with. Considering that a 4 man bench is more than within reach if you aren't trading...

This is making me pretty excited as I didn't mind Season 1 of Halt and Catch Fire but I stopped keeping up with it after Season 2. I just finished Broadchurch so it's next on the list.

Re: Cubs arbitration eligibles

Grimm is going to arbitration apparently. Should have just non tendered him instead. I wonder if we were fine going to the top end of what he'd get/request and we just tried to come in a decent amount lower since he sucked ass last year and feel a compelling argument can be made in our favor in arb...

It looks like some manufacturer misprint that got sold to some wholesaler at pennies on the dollar. Outside of the typo it seems the same as the replicas they were selling for several times as much, right?

Cubs arbitration eligibles

I tried finding a way to make a dead offseason/nihilist arby's joke but it's friday and my brain is tired.

Anyway, Wilson signed for 4.25 million

That's 750k under MLBTR's estimate.

Re: Starting Pitching candidates

I kind of think we may wind up seeing each of Darvish and Jake signing deals for less than originally anticipated. Yu for 5/125 or so, Jake for 4/100 or so. Maybe each get a vesting option. But BOTH get an opt out after year 1, to potentially put themselves back into the market, when more teams are...

Re: Christian Yelich

I'm not, nor have I ever been, an Almora fan, but I don't think I could do that trade. I feel pretty confident that a Happ/Almora platoon will equal, at worst, Yelich's value for about 10% of the cost. I'm not like "horsefeathers no!!!" but yeah, don't think I could pull the trigger on th...

Re: Christian Yelich

Is there any way to stay under the LT if we trade for Yelich, sign Yu, sign Maybin, Gomez or Jackson (if Happ/Almora are both trades we need a RHH OF who can play all 3 spots) and also bring Avila back? That would be a phenomenal end to the offseason. You'd need to find a way to sell off Zobrist. T...

Re: General Baseball Chit-Chat Thread

Cameron has his blind spots like all of us, but most of the reason folks dislike him is that he could get obnoxious in how he communicated some ideas. I think he's a reasonably bright guy, if not one that has an overly specialized skill set for a MLB front office. That said, getting hired by AJ Prel...
