Re: Albie(s) Getting Paid

The options make this a pretty bad deal for Albies, but I don't think the 35 million bit is all that bad. Maybe a bit low, but reasonable considering the caliber of player he is and how far he is from bigger money in arbitration, never mind free agency.

Re: soccer soccer soccer

I wonder what will happen the SeatGeek Stadium (Toyota Park) after the Fire move. Town is still in a ton of debt and its probably not a great concert venue. Would they just tear it down? It's a shame because it is a pretty nice stadium, just horribly located. The rumor is that the team/league would...

Re: Cubs suck and we were always right to hate them (2019 negativity thread)

Not drafting pitchers is awesome. I just remember a couple of years ago saying "they probably won't keep hitting on all their rotation bets" and being told "He hit on them all the last two years, why wouldn't that last forever?"* * - not actually how the conversation went but id...

Re: Cubs suck and we were always right to hate them (2019 negativity thread)

how can you not draft and develop just one major league quality starter in the last 5 years? After Kyle it’s.....nothing This is mostly because they decided not to spend high picks on pitchers. As an example, 32 SP provided 2.5+ fWAR last year. One of them was Hendricks, another was a Theo draftee(...

Re: Bote Extended

I wonder if Bote had conversations with Descalso that nudged him this way. Descalso didn't make an early splash in his career like Bote did, but they have similar profiles and came up at similar ages. Descalso will have made less than 15M at the end of his age 33 season, Bote just got that guarantee...

Re: Movie Thread 2: The Sequel

Well, sure, but that's not what this is, if I understand you correctly. It could have been, if it was about some down and out random weirdo being driven to super villain-dom in Gotham. I guess what I'm getting at is I'm not sure why there's the distinction between 'random villain origin story' and ...

I've seen a decent number of reactions that are variations of, "well, at least DC is trying something DIFFERENT!" I mean, yeah, technically...but if you're changing an iconic and massively popular/recognizable pop culture character SO much that it's essentially something else...why not ju...

Re: On what date does Maddon get fired? winner gets an up vote

If I can be a blind homer for a second it is absolute garbage that the league is so concerned about Edwards' delivery because all it takes to be legal is a barely perceptible bit of movement at the pause, whether it's his arms or whatever. And it's with the bases empty too.

Re: On what date does Maddon get fired? winner gets an up vote

Maddon's on-field moves have been fine to me, there's stuff that I would do different but by and large the logic is sound and I can't in good conscience think there's a big difference in Awesome Mystery Manager X than Maddon in that department. I have Maddon fatigue in listening to him talk because ...

Re: Let the hate flow thread - our rosters have been totally mismanaged

A couple things have become apparent about that 2017-2018 offseason... 1. Previously, the Cubs had emphasized arm health in the pitchers they acquired. They certainly signed guys who’d had major arm injuries, but they’d all had a few years under their belts showing they were back to health (Lester ...

Re: General Baseball Chit-Chat Thread

Though it is sadly hilarious that, much like the surge in dongs, this super pitching appears to be something the Cubs were somehow missing out on. (Cue some jackass with stats about how the Cubs' strikeout numbers were actually amazing last year) The Cubs were tied for 11th in the NL and 19th in ML...

4.0 to first base is basically 70-80 grade speed if accurate, I didn't know Nico's wheels were that good.

Re: Hendricks extended through 2023

"giving guaranteed years when you didn't have to" is also the same as "controlling his early 30s without having to guarantee his mid to late 30s". He's a pitcher. It's 50/50 that his early 30s will be spent with his arm attached to his body. Yes, that's part of why he's getting ...

Baez having more bat speed than anyone is not the same as having bat speed to spare. His swing is not particularly compact and losing a tick to merely be 'elite' bat speed could have significant consequences. Players who lean that hard on their physical gifts to be really good don't have extra room...

Hendricks had an ERA+ around 110 the first half of 2017, so if that's the downside the downside is that he's basically an average starter.
