Re: soccer soccer soccer

What is wrong with you people rooting for Mexico did you see landon donovan on instagram? I did, and that Bocanegra and a few others gave him the business over it too. The 60 minutes of bunkering and gamesmanship plus a cameo from Marquez are an excellent example why I’d never pull for them to win ...

Re: The Manny Machado Thread

Has Machado *really* beyond a shadow of a doubt proven he can not play SS? Defensive stats like UZR and DRS require multiple (2-3+) years of sample rather than a couple months...I definitely prefer Harper by a huge margin but view Machado as a stud too. This year makes 3 of 4 years(not so coinciden...

Re: The Manny Machado Thread

I guess I'll ask it this way: is anyone here looking it as a "Harper or bust" kind of situation? Like, would it be a huge disappointment/downgrade to have to "settle" for Machado instead? I will admit to less than 100% rationality, but I would be bitterly disappointed with Macha...

Re: The Manny Machado Thread

So why does Fangraphs seemingly not view there to be a huge difference between their value offensively (again, minus Harper's bat horsefeathers bonkers 2015)? This largely seems like, as mentioned, the appeal of Harper's ceiling more than anything. Which, hey, makes sense! I just don't think signin...

when you get the chance to pay a jillion dollars for a guy to either be your 2nd best 3rd baseman or punt SS defense entirely when you have multiple other options there, you gotta do it

Suarez hit side netting on a chance so wide open that I thought he scored and so did the person updating the score graphic. Egypt has kinda gone toe to toe with Uruguay in terms of possession and chances, without Salah too. Exciting for their prospects of beating Russia and Saudi Arabia to get out ...

Re: Eugene’s Roster

I wouldn't be absolutely stunned if the Cubs wanted to rest Casey and Richan after big workload years. I wouldn't be surprised if Weber and Hoerner's time in Eugene is very, very short, barring some extreme struggles. I wonder if it's one of those extreme situations where a guy like Hoerner gets a ...

Re: General Cubs Chit-Chat

130 to 160 innings isn't that obnoxious a jump either, and Montgomery has slim odds of significant postseason innings. I don't think managing his workload, even in an optimistic case where he locks down a rotation spot for the rest of the year, is a big need.

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 6-12-18

The extra exciting thing about Mekkes to me, and this may be anecdotal since I obsessively follow him more than most, is that for all his video game numbers a lot of the damage he allows happens when he gets stretched into multiple innings. Last night was pretty emblematic of that: K, K, K, K, 1B, P...

Chatwood is almost certainly the other.

And they still have one of the most talented rosters in the game and they still have the money to drop a bunch of cash on Harper's doorstep.

I think it's fair to question where the Cubs will be after the 2021 season with so many guys ending their contracts or team control then (including Theo I believe), but I am confident that the Cubs will make the necessary preparations. You can say the same thing about every team 3-4+ years out Yes ...

Nothing says 'built for the long haul' quite like having 7 players on your roster playing at a 2 win pace, with 2 of them being relievers and 2 others being Junior Guerra and Jhoulys Chacin.
