Re: Politics & Current Events

So it sounds like out of this listening session, Trump is strong on background checks (good), mental health (lol have you seen your proposed budget), raising the age limit (good), and arming teachers (horrific). The depressing thing about Republicans pushing for more of an armed presence in schools...

Re: General Baseball Chit-Chat Thread

It's not my favorite idea, but I don't have the visceral negative reaction to it. I do like it better as a tool to limit extra innings, although among these options I like 'start with the bases loaded' best: http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/2246 ... ings-issue

Re: soccer soccer soccer

I don't have specific suggestions, but at that age and especially if it's 5 v 5, I'd spend all kinds of time working on developing foot skills and comfort on the ball. That'll be way more helpful in the present and future than understanding shape/formation, practicing corner kicks, or even shooting.

Stolen from Deadspin, but relevant to every Barstool drama ever:

Interactions between Barstool employees, who are stars in their own horsefeathers reality show more than they are writers or bloggers, are always layered in kayfabe

Re: 2018 Cubs ZiPS Projections

I'm on board with the Reds making improvements, but I wouldn't quite go that far. Losing Cozart's 5 wins on top of having several position player regression candidates(Gennett, Duvall, Barnhart, Suarez), plus the lack of another team in the division truly tanking(even the Pirates are rebuilding on t...

Re: Darvish to Cubs, 6/$126 Million + Incentives

That's 43 steals in 70 starts. I don't want to be flippant, but I also don't care even a little bit. I hope it becomes like the Lester thing and teams keep running themselves into outs in key situations. Oh yeah, some overzealous dummy(I'm looking at you, Tommy Pham) is gonna wind up with 5 CS in a...

Re: NL Central Also-Rans: Reds, Brewers, Pirates

We had the oldest pitching staff in the national league last year by BR's reckoning, and we just added a 31-year-old pitcher with a history of arm problems to a 6-year contract. Our minor league pitchers are nothing special. We also dropped a 38 year old starter in the process. The Cubs rotation ne...

Mannnnnnn, between Sahadev and Mooney, the Athletic's Cubs coverage is in a great great place. Worth the price alone (not to mention the Bears content too...Bulls coverage seems MEH). And I was a big anti-Athletic guy Yes, the infrequent stuff Rian Watt did for them(although he's now at Fangraphs) ...

Re: Which Crazy Surprise Things Will Happen?

Agree that Darvish and Almora seem the most likely. At first I thought it was Schwarber, but man .950 is a high high bar, he'd have to hit like .285 with best ever power. Chatwood could happen especially with Hickey, maybe I think that's less likely because unless someone else tanks you're then in f...

FWIW, I saw some Twitter chatter about Cohen's book(at least I'm pretty sure it was that book) and how it had some shockingly bad factual errors(easily provable stuff about modern Cubs teams) that called into question the quality of the rest of it.

I'm weirdly disappointed that the Cubs haven't had a classic fatguy pitcher in forever.
