It all changed with that wonderful man named Aramis

I’m pretty sure Houston was mainly a catcher though, right? Mueller was good but had that nasty knee injury.

In a stunning reversal, he's going to be using Rondon's entrance music circa 2015-2016.

ffs on Instagram the Cubs had a fan question q&a with him and the first question they used was "How did you get your nickname?" and he explained it. Poorly worded maybe but it's not that bad of a question. Who started calling him that, when he started embracing it, etc. are par for th...

Re: Cubs in agreement with Craig Kimbrel 3/$45m

As a person who routinely doesn’t pay enough attention to what’s going on, I thought Kimbrel was coming off an injury and that’s why he hadn’t signed a deal until now. It never ever occurred to me that he could be fully healthy and not find a deal with anyone more than two months into the season. I...

Re: Kimbrel?

What is Kimbrel even looking for/expecting? He just turned 31. His last deal was 4/42 (ended up becoming 5/55 due to team option). Going into 2019, there aren't a lot of great comps for Kimbrel, with the closest guys being older and not quite as good: Miller (2/25), Ottavino (3/27), Robertson (2/23...

I think it's just shorthand.

Will Zobrist's retirement decision impact the signing? I.e., if Zobrist decides to retire.

Re: Gigantic Willy Style - The Willson Contreras Thread

An fWAR bolstered significantly by what increasingly is looking like an unsustainable level of defensive value, and now sandwiched by two seasons of butt. The dude has had 1500 PA at this point, and we're already more than a third of the way through this season; at what point does it go from, "...

1.) contreras was butt in lf when he got regular playing time there 2.) the only outfield position he could maybe even remotely pass at is LF which also happens to be the only outfield position we have a semi-competent bat in already i mean i can't believe some of the takes in here. we should trade...

The whole 4chan "let's make this a fake thing to pwn the libs, 'whoops', now alt-right people are doing it ironically/seriously" started in 2017. But Milo and co. started it back in 2015 as this intentionally nebulous dog-whistle along the lines of, "white guys chill like this" ...

I've never been on 4chan. 4chan isn't the story. This symbol is a racist symbol used by racists and has been for years and people know it. It's definitely a racist symbol but it became a thing in large part because of 4chan and it really hasn't been a thing for that long. https://www.adl.org/educat...

I honestly find it very hard to believe anybody who is ONLINE doesn't know this symbol and the negative connotation. If you were on twitter, you would have to follow a very narrow group of people to have avoided the stories. I assume it's similar on facebook. It's been happening in the white house ...

best case is he like the later years marmol who was bad but still kinda good? Well, wouldn't best case be good Marmol? Because that slider is filth. i'm not sure he'd ever be able to get his BB/9 even to the 4-5 range that good marmol was at. later on it was higher but he was still a pretty good re...

Re: It's Maddoning

Celebrations are the icing, not the cake. Baseball is a hell of a lot better with celebrations but pretty damn good without them, too. MLB’s current virality is based on celebrations, which is fun but likely not a sustainable way to grow the game (e.g. being conditioned to think that a walkoff isn’t...

Re: "Time makes fools of us all" - The Kyle Schwarber Thread

Schwarber & Russell should have been traded after the WS. there was no reason to trade them then. especially russell. saying they "should" have traded them in hindsight is pointless, especially since there was probably more reason to trade baez then, which would have been a huge mista...

Re: "Time makes fools of us all" - The Kyle Schwarber Thread

When we're able to sadly boil it down in hindsight as that the Cubs were saddled with a bizarrely terrible Heyward for multiple years, and were limited to only replacing someone like Schwarber internally, yeah, it looks like they effectively had no choice. That is not, however, the ideal way we wer...
