Re: It’s not me, it’s Yu

Thank god for Hamels. If our 4 remaining starters pitch close to where they did in their last starts the Cubs will be fine in the playoffs. Two things I keep telling myself: 1. Outside of the Dodgers, none of the other NL contender offenses are very good. And the Cubs are right with the Dodgers in ...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 7-31-18

Healthy arms don't generally lose velocity at all during a player's late teens and early 20's. Huh? A prep player that is throwing 94 at 18, will in the vast majority of cases, still be throwing 94 as a 21 year old as long as his arm has been healthy. There have been some studies showing this. The ...

Re: Regular Season Rumors

It's hard for me to to commit to trading for a starter without any information on Darvish's health status. If they trade for a starter, that's telling me that Yu isn't coming back this year. But if they expect Darvish to be healthy for October, I don't see a lot out there in the mid-tier section (i...

Re: Regular Season Rumors

I'm just glad it appears we're very serious about adding a starter. It seemed like we were concentrating too much on relievers, based on some of the articles. Given the emphasis on bullpens in the playoffs, I’d rather devote resources to the bullpen to make it as strong as possible for October. But...

Certainly useless as a trade chip.

Going off this then, would something like Albertos for Tyson Ross and Kirby Yates be something people would be willing to do?

Albertos is pretty worthless at this point.

Amaya is far and away the #1 prospect for me. I'd probably go with Hoerner after that.

It is amazing to me that he is getting a ton of grief on this when Bryce Harper is on the team. Do people even look at at statistics?

Is he? He’s 0.2 WAR behind Albies with 76 less plate appearances. And he can play SS and 3B. Hardly an outrageous decision by the fans.

Re: It’s not me, it’s Yu

Good news? It's an extremely cautious timeline, which I am fine with, but this injury shouldn't be a 2 month ordeal like this. They don't really need to push him though and this should keep him fresh for October. We shouldn’t be surprised. They are prolonging the inevitable, he’s gonna go under the...

Both Cease and Estrada were 6th-round picks. Maybe this will be the round? D.J. Wilson was 4th round, he's the only other million-dollar superslot I can recall. (Well, obviously Sands and Steele, too...) The 7-figure bonus overslots under this regime were Underwood in the 2nd round in 2012; Sands (...

I would add that Theo and Co., along with his branches, often look for a certain type/mold. For lack of better way of saying it, they look for the next Ellsbury (certainly, one can say the next Betts) and Pedroia, and while there is value in that, there's also a risk of getting too locked in on a t...
