Re: Movie Thread 2: The Sequel

Star Wars are C-level movies with cultural resonance, not actually good. You keep using words like "good" and "great" and those mean vastly different things to different people? Is it "good" in a film nerd way? Nope. Is it good in that I will watch it for the 1000th ti...

Re: Movie Thread 2: The Sequel

Dana's the real hero of those movies: she inexplicably manages to go from professionally playing in the New York Philharmonic to working in restorations for the Manhattan Museum of Art. That's bonkers.

I enjoy both of them. I also think they're both very messy movies.

Re: Movie Thread 2: The Sequel

Bruh, Citzen Kane's legacy isn't Birth of a Nation's; it's not getting by just on how/when it was made, or only that it did a ton of things first/early. You sit and soak in your badness.

Re: Movie Thread 2: The Sequel

No, it's still a terrible take, and people try to trot it out for everything from The Wizard of Oz to The Matrix ; genuinely good movies don't somehow atrophy because of poor imitators of the filmmaking or the stories or the characters or whatever. If people just don't enjoy something like Citizen ...

Re: Movie Thread 2: The Sequel

I'm home sick today and I watched Citizen Kane for the first time. It's a good, not great movie. Tell me why it's so revered? It's one of those that seems pedestrian now because all the techniques it pioneered have become part of the standard toolbox. By the logic of this type of take, basically ev...

The one...ONE...snapshot of the Ted Lilly Fan Club that I could find: https://web.archive.org/web/20080521221908/http://tedlillyfanclub.blogspot.com/ I remembered really liking that place, and it was better than I remembered. Yes, they're using the Barstool tweet, too. There's no escaping the Barstool funk on any of the Twitter versions.

Yeah, I know; in my quick search I couldn't find a version that didn't have Barstool's grimy taint all over it somehow. But horsefeathers them: I will not deny everyone the perfect nut-shot just because they suck.

It's a crime that the Ted Lilly Fan Club no longer exists, if not just to at least react to Ted Lilly's actual crimes.

At least we had some good times with Howry. He was useful before he got TERRIBLE That fan rushing the field and getting to the mound when he was out there and then having an oh horsefeathers moment when he realized Howry would beat his ass is still one my favorite all time Cubs moments Yeah, Howry ...
