Re: Baez impresses Baez
The "Happ is a serial killer" meme is weirdly less fun when he sucks. Maybe because it kinda seems like a natural outlet for his frustration.

Please anyone but Duke use the term "murderer's row" when talking about our favorite baseball team.

Re: General Cubs Chit-Chat
For real, though; the sound system at Wrigley has had unbearably sound levels depending on where your sitting basically forever. The best seats we ever had for a couple of seasons were only marred by the deafening volume of the music/announcing.

Re: The Braves are Calling Up Ronald Acuña
I remember when we delayed calling up KB there was so much anger and outrage, but I've heard very little rancor over the Braves doing the same thing with Ronald Acuna. I guess maybe it's just an accepted practice and baseball writers have moved on. It's not as big a story now, but it's just been &q...

Re: Jagoff About Willson Contreras Here, You Lazy Jerkoffs
It's Darvish's 6th season and Contreras' 3rd; to paint it in REALLY broad strokes like it's potentially some raw-ass rookie just off the bus chewing out Nolan Ryan fresh off of his latest headlock is more than a tad disingenuous.

Re: Jagoff About Willson Contreras Here, You Lazy Jerkoffs
The obvious, glaring flaw in that (I mean, there's a LOT of them) is that it hinges on the idea that Montero was ONLY traded because of that one incident.

Re: Movie Thread 2: The Sequel
Normally I'm annoyed by "the book/comic book did it THIS way..."-style complaints, but this is a character who literally has zero reason to exist without Spider-Man, soooooooooooooo....what's the point? It's like making a Bizarro movie that's inexplicably divorced from Superman. Yep...wha...

Re: Politics & Current Events
He's already shrank away from taking out the Iran deal before, and even tried to make Congress do it before they basically punted it back to him. He seemed to be scared off pretty easily by how much the blowback to torpedoing the Iran deal would hit him. Hopefully that doesn't change. Was that befo...

Re: Politics & Current Events
As much of a dopey cartoon character as he is, even he's not going to war without being attacked first unless it can be sold as a quick win. Iran and NK most definitely do not even come close to qualifying.

Re: Politics & Current Events
It’s hard for me to see the electoral reaction to Trump’s presidency thus far as anything but a sign he’s going to be emphatically voted out in 2020, but maybe there’s a turnaround or some other reason to think that things will change from Democrats flipping senate seats in Alabama to Trump threadi...

Re: Politics & Current Events
I just disagree with all of this. Hillary was a uniquely terrible nominee for the Dems in 2016 or it would not have been close. Republicans aren’t showing up this Fall and unless something unforeseen happens they won’t in 2020. You and I have argued about the existence of the undecided voter in the...

Re: Politics & Current Events
He's a Republican; he doesn't need enthusiasm on his side. If he's their guy, they'll show up. All we've seen is that Republicans will stick with the guy with the (R) no matter what; the time where some of them where making bull horsefeathers overtures about not being sure about him are dead and bur...

Re: TV thread
I just re-watched season 5, and it starts off so strong, but then after 4-5 episodes it just keeps...going along. Like you said, it's nowhere near bad, but so little is happening. Watching it again, I was FAR more into the Stan/Oleg stuff.

Re: Politics & Current Events
100% agree with all this, plus consider that 37%-40% is more or less Trump’s ceiling (as you sorta alluded to). 538 would call this a bad use of polling. Nate Silver himself has also repeatedly pointed out how Trump's pretty steady hovering around 41% leaves him just barely outside the polling wind...

Re: Politics & Current Events
Still seems like a stretch unless you're thinking someone like Miller was pushing him to post it. Trump doesn't exactly strike me as the type to have the patience to go digging around in Nazi children's books for some forgotten dog whistles. And this is apparently the passage from the book: “The ey...
