Re: Politics & Current Events

There are absolutely ways for her to be effective in the VP, and it's not pointless at all to consider if you have other choices for Sec. of Treasury, Labor or Commerce who could be as effective as she would be. Wow, you're going to be REAL disappointed when you get to meet the Democratic party. Bu...

Just a hunch but I don’t think he’ll maintain a .159 BABIP all year.

*Looks up Bryant's BABiP*

In just one more April game last year, he managed to put up a ghastly .149 .259 .189 .448 even worse than his hideous 2019 April line of .159 .312 .317 .629, sooooooooooooo...progress?

Re: "Time makes fools of us all" - The Kyle Schwarber Thread

When we're able to sadly boil it down in hindsight as that the Cubs were saddled with a bizarrely terrible Heyward for multiple years, and were limited to only replacing someone like Schwarber internally, yeah, it looks like they effectively had no choice. That is not, however, the ideal way we were...

her? I was referring to a situation more like Cheney's time in office As was I, which is why it's a moot point involving someone like Warren. Ok? Dude, I'm saying it's pointless to bring up a Bush/Cheney-type of situation when the discussion is centered around whether or not the traditionally not-p...

Re: Baez impresses Baez

It seems wrong and criminal that there's all of these national commercials during the games featuring a bunch of MLB players, yet Baez is in none of them.

I mean, there's no Cubs in them period because I guess they're mostly a bunch of Q-rating duds, but no Baez seems genuinely egregious.

Re: Politics & Current Events

It doesn't have to be a neutered position. It all depends on how much of a role policy wise the Prez would allow them AKA it can be a powerful position if the VP has the ear of an easily lead around president. Why anyone would rather have her as VP as opposed to Sec. of Treasury, Labor or Commerce?...

I'm still enjoying Veep just on the merits of maybe the most stacked sitcom cast of all time...but man, a lot of it just seems REALLY dumb at this point. 3 episodes into a 7 episode final season and it feels like we've basically gotten the same episode 3 times. The best part has been Richard workin...

Re: "Time makes fools of us all" - The Kyle Schwarber Thread

We all would’ve been pissed if they traded any of the guys off the MLB roster for horsefeathering pitching prospects in 2017 or 2018. Right, which is why I wanted them to trade for at least another good pitcher who could slot in right away. I only mentioned pitching prospects as a possibility they ...

Nathan J. Robinson notes some of the blemishes on Mayor Pete's character: https://www.currentaffairs.org/2019/03/all-about-pete Pete Buttigieg is trying the same thing. Look at the number of boxes he checks. He’s from the Rust Belt so he’s authentic, but he went to Harvard so he’s not a rube, but h...

Do you have someone in mind? It's really disappointing to me that Warren seems to have become a non-factor as she seems by far the most prepared to do the job. I'd love to get her onto the ticket at least at the VP. From there, my top preference is just whoever gets the most democratic voters out, ...

Re: "Time makes fools of us all" - The Kyle Schwarber Thread

But the idea of trading them when their value was high implies that at the time they played important roles in present and future of the team. Well, yeah, that's what you have to do to get the best return with these sorts of assets. It's an automatic risk that can't be avoided. Someone like Baez or...

I'm not at all opposed to criticizing Theo/Jed...the failure to develop a single pitcher, what looks to be multiple misses in free agency, and that's before getting into things like Chapman, Murphy, Russell. But it's easy to look back at Happ/Almora/Schwarber/Russell now and be like 'well inevitabl...

Re: "Time makes fools of us all" - The Kyle Schwarber Thread

Or for not trading him when his value was high? That, and it applies potentially to multiple guys on the team. I get the video game appeal of fielding a team of almost nothing but homegrown stud bats, but that's not something likely to pan out, and it's not like the pitching issues were ever going ...
