Re: CDC Info on COVID-19 (Corona virus)

The Belgian government just decided that masks will be mandatory in all shops (and churches and a number of other places) from next Saturday. From what I've read here, this wouldn't fly in the US. Little late in the game, no? It's been par for the course in New Jersey, and I believe many other stat...

Re: CDC Info on COVID-19 (Corona virus)

Once it burns itself out, it doesn't really disappear but it becomes endemic, with everyone being at least partially resistant either natively or from previous infection. It joins the dozens of viruses we call "common cold" or "just the flu." Some of those "dozens" are...

Re: CDC Info on COVID-19 (Corona virus)

I still don't see that much optimism unfortunately :( I hate to make matters worse, but studies here in Belgium indicate the % of the population with antibodies is going down (from 6.9% in may to 5.5% in june - our peak was in april). They're still examining the data, but one possible explanation i...

If a dude in a bunker yelling at subordinates that they should order the military to shoot at civilians seems familiar, it's because you've seen Der Untergang.

Re: CDC Info on COVID-19 (Corona virus)

UV Light is how a local video gear rental company is sanitizing their equipment after use. Interesting idea. UV tech used to kill viruses and bacteria has been around a long time, it was always considered expensive (equipment) or untrusted (for stupid reasons). Just to be clear: we're talking UV-C ...

Re: Beer Thread 2.0

I think a big part of the problem is that recipes don't scale up linearly. A good example of this is Oberon. When it was small batch, it was amazing. Then bells ramped up production, and it lost that potent orange flavor, tasting more like a horsefeathers macro brew. It took a while, but it would a...

Re: CDC Info on COVID-19 (Corona virus)

How is Sweden doing? I read an April 20 article saying they have 10 times the deaths as Norway and Finland. Anything newer then this(?): https://www.businessinsider.com/how-sweden-and-norway-handled-coronavirus-differently-2020-4 That ratio seems to be holding: Situation update for the EU/EEA and t...

Re: CDC Info on COVID-19 (Corona virus)

In Belgium, the crisis management team is taking a lot of heat for including the "probable cases" in the nursing homes because "it makes us look bad abroad" (i.e. making us top in Trump's graph the other day). They resisted cooking the numbers and from that NYT piece it seems the...

Re: CDC Info on COVID-19 (Corona virus)

I'm interested to see how population effects the fact that we will soon have the most cases. US population: 331 million - 454,615 Covid Cases - 1,373 cases per million UK, Italy, Germany, France, Spain: 323 million - 590,077 Covid cases - 1,942 cases per million Edit: Just saw that David was simult...

Re: CDC Info on COVID-19 (Corona virus)

I saw a quote from a new york urgent care doctor who said basically everyone who came in to urgent care for any reason was found positive for coronavirus. anecdotal and perhaps meaningless. In Brussels, they ran the same thing (test everyone, even the appendicitis/broken leg cases) and the number w...

Just the other way around, actually.
Brussels are perfect rectangles with lighter dough; Liègeois are roughly oval, thicker and made from a heavier dough.
