Re: General Baseball Chit-Chat Thread

With the report of the Nationals offer to Rendon with, surprise surprise, quite a bit of deferred money. I went looking around cots at what deferred money they have out there. The craziest thing to me is that Scherzer is not making any actual salary this season or the next two... of course he's goi...

Re: Impeach The Ricketts

It's funny, I've spent years arguing that this front office shouldn't be glorified, and yet, there were no major moves that screamed out as being horrible at that immediate point in time (I supported Heyward signing, didn't love the Quintana trade but value was fine for a guy on that contract coming...

Re: Hultzen finally makes it; guy who looks at cameras DFA'd

I'm biased, but Hultzen's start against South Carolina in the CWS was one of the more impressive starts, at any level, that I'd ever seen. It's been a long time, but IIRC, he struck out 8 of the first 9 batters, while throwing up and being sick in between innings. He thoroughly dominated a South Car...

Re: Greinke to Astros

Fascinating moves by the DIamondbacks. They give up Greinke and Jasrado Chisholm, a personal favorite that had stalled badly this year, and add a good arm in Zac Gallen, plus some interesting prospects. Honestly, I'm floored the Marlins gave up Gallen for just Jasrado Chisholm, considering the year ...

Re: Cubs get Castellanos for Lange and Richan

If things are so hammer tight on the budget, then its up to the FO to make some decisions on how to reallocate resources. We can go PTR all day long, but it is what is for now and no amount of wishing and hoping will change that. Thing is, in terms of individual moves and actions, I haven't found mu...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 6-27-19

I think Ademan has been one of the bright spots this year. Love that he seems to be walking more and controlling it a bit better. I'm of mixed opinions on whether or not they should find a way to send him up to AA later in the year ... a part of me is curious (I mean, only so interested I can get on...

Re: 2019 Actual MLB Draft Day(s) Thread

I'm just curious what their plan is with all these arms in terms of timeline ... are they going to go slow and work them slowly up the ladder, stretching them out? I mean, we're slowly getting some arms into the upper levels, so it's hard to see these draft picks squeezing guys out of spots out tha...

Re: 2019 Actual MLB Draft Day(s) Thread

Draft vaguely reminds me of our 2008 draft (Cashner, Shafer, Chris Carpenter, Justin Bristow early on). I actually liked that draft at the time, so I'll reserve judgment on this one, but time obviously hasn't made that class look all that great. I'm just curious what their plan is with all these ar...

Re: Trade targets 2019

For the pen, I'd rather save up for a big run at a big arm. Giles is an interesting idea, I guess. Not the name that jumped off the top for me first, but yeah, it would work. For now, I'd rather just try some of the AAA guys that don't have huge ceilings and see if someone can work in the pen - perh...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 5-23-19

Having not followed much in a long time ... I'm still intrigued with Swarmer. Not sure what he is long run, but with that change-up, sure feels like he'll get some run in the bigs. Didn't one of the sites this winter compare him to Trevor Richards? Considering where we got Swarmer ... if we get a us...

Re: The Bryce is Right, Bitch

If this is the contract, then Boras/Harper screwed up by passing on the Nationals reported offer (10/300) and the Nationals rumored offer (higher than that). Yeah, he sets a record, but Machado ended up with a higher AAV, and if there's no opt out, this is just a weird, weird ending to the Harper FA...

Re: The Bryce is Right, Bitch

What the hell are the Giants doing getting in on a 10 year deal? The team's in a tough division, 2-3 years away from legitimately competing, with an average system ... at best. By the time they are legitimately ready to push for another run ... Bryce will likely be nearing the end of his physical pr...

Re: The Bryce is Right, Bitch

Now, I've been suggesting a short term deal wasn't that ridiculous ... but I don't get a 5 year deal. That seems just a touch long. My thinking on a massive short term deal would've been for Bryce to get out around 28/29 and possible get a 8 year deal to take him into his late 30's while still poten...

Re: The Bryce is Right, Bitch

If someone really bombs him with a deal ... I mean ... something insane ... there's a certain price point where it'd be stupid to pass up on it at his age. To be fair, 4/160 might not be enough. It might have to be closer to 4/200 to even ring a bell. It'd probably have to even further. Yes, skill l...

Re: The Bryce is Right, Bitch

The Dodgers, now, are a more reasonable team (unlike the Giants) to really bomb the market and give him some sort of insane short term deal. I still don't see it happening, but unless I'm mistaken, huge chunks of their remaining committed salaries come off in the next 1-3 years (Ryu, Turner, Hill, M...

Re: The Bryce is Right, Bitch

I wonder if SF may bomb the market. That is, a very short term deal with such an immensely high AAV that Boras and Harper can't say no. I suggested something similar early in the offseason, not really thinking it was a real possibility. But say someone threw 3/120+. Still, at the end of the day, the...

Re: The Bryce is Right, Bitch

I just don’t understand... The Cubs have nearly $60M in contracts coming off the book next year between Hamels, Zobrist, Morrow (I’m assuming they’ll decline his option), Strop, Cishek and Kintzler. They could free up another ~$22M if they were to decline Rizzo’s or Quintana’s options. (Unlikely in...

Significantly overused by Buck during his run in Baltimore (Orioles missed a chance to sell high on him two years ago, when he might've commanded a big return), but for this offseason, and the constraints, I do like the move. The fastball isn't as good as it once was, so I doubt he's a consistent la...

Re: The Bryce is Right, Bitch

I tend to think this is the Phillies game to lose now. Boras and Harper will wait, but the Phillies almost HAVE to pull in someone big, so they'll be willing to wait. For the Nationals to get him back ... Just offer him a one year deal with 9 player options Honestly, it might take something vaguely ...

Re: The Bryce is Right, Bitch

Situation reminds me, vaguely, of the Pujols situation several years ago. IIRC, Pujols had an offer from the Cardinals, the Angels topped it by a fair amount, and Pujols kept waiting and hoping the Cardinals would come back in. Sure feels like the Phillies have offered something significantly higher...

Re: 2018-19 Offseason Rumors

Wouldn't surprise me if that was the case, but I'd guess that they'd double down on pitching first - say Keuchel or Corbin to go with Paxton AND maybe a Charlie Morton (who wants to be on the East Coast, near Delaware, IIRC). Makes me sorta wonder if the Yankees jump in on Addison Russell if gets se...

Re: Paxton to Yankees

I think the Yankees get a good deal. I don't know if Justus Sheffield is a dominant starter. Say what you want about Paxton, but when he's on, he's been electric for three years. This is a good chance for the Yankees to take. I don't think they stop here - they have money to spend, so I suspect Corb...

I thought Fulmer was a pen arm when he was at Vandy, and I still feel that way. A potentially elite pen arm, but I just don't buy him as a starter. Still, if you can get him and work on him, why not.
