Re: CDC Info on COVID-19 (Corona virus)

The Belgian government just decided that masks will be mandatory in all shops (and churches and a number of other places) from next Saturday. From what I've read here, this wouldn't fly in the US. with some people yes, with some people no. A segment of our population has decided that we all will su...

Re: soccer soccer soccer

so, any spurs fans want to complain about handball and VAR today? Haha - I know you aren't like that. I seriously think Spurs fans should root for whatever gets Mourinho fired the fastest . . .

Re: soccer soccer soccer

Wolves would be a very good situation for McKennie. The biggest downside is if they don't end up in Europe(right now it looks like they'll need Man City to lose their appeal), they typically play with a pretty tight 11 so playing time might be more sparse than we'd like. They're in a Europa League ...

"19.10 BST: Wolves reportedly lead a long list of suitors for Schalke and United States midfielder Weston McKennie, according to a report from CBS. The report says due to financial struggles at Schalke 04, the German club might be forced to sell the American to recoup funds. Valued at £20 milli...

Re: soccer soccer soccer

the thing about Davies is he is fast among fast players. I don't think Dest has that kind of speed. From what I read, the question is whether he can defend or not. Going to a Barca or Bayern will allow him to get forward a lot but might not develop his defense as much. Playing for USA, he will be de...

Re: soccer soccer soccer

TSS thought that Southampton(who is going in on RB-esque pressing chaos) would be a particularly fun fit for McKennie. Going to a superclub would be worse than where he is, but pretty much anywhere else(like Hertha Berlin or Newcastle) that's more realistic would likely be better than whatever Scha...

Re: soccer soccer soccer

I love Wes McKennie. I think his mean streak, his vocal leadership, and his all-in committed style of play make him a logical choice to be USMNT captain now and for a long time. That said, some of the clubs he's being linked with have to be BS/agent floated. https://www.cbssports.com/soccer/news/we...

Re: Politics & Current Events

Nah, you're describing some nerds but not most nerds... Plenty of professors and lawyers I know describe themselves as nerds, but aren't conservative or right-leaning in their politics. Most people in Silicon Valley lean left in their politics and I think most of those people are nerds. Republicans...

Re: soccer soccer soccer

MLS comes back tomorrow! It’s a fun league and if you’re in this thread you should watch it. I put a preview together for some Euro-based coworkers and thought I’d adapt it here in case others find it worthwhile. If you haven’t followed MLS before, the competitive environment is a mix between the N...

Re: soccer soccer soccer

the handball rule is ridiculous.

Pulisic looked good. Having another good threat out there will help him. Nice finish on his goal. I thought Mount looked better too and was wondering if that was because Kante wasn't out there. Could two unstructured players create dysfunction?

Re: Summer Camp 2020

Just video game your way through this season. I think that's the closest we're gonna get. Really don't see how we manage to have any sports in 2020. The NBA may be the only league to pull this off with the teams in a bubble in Orlando. Granted, they only have to finish the end of the 2020 season wi...

Re: soccer soccer soccer

Well I’m done with VAR. Spurs just had a goal disallowed because, as he was falling down, a defender kicked the ball off Lucas Moura’s upper arm and it went to Kane, who scored. Moura was pretty much on the ground. Oh, and the only reason Moura was on the ground was because he was fouled and the re...

Related to that, the other thing that I wish there was better visualization for is the demographics of the positives. Our county's dashboard has some of that so I can see, for example, that people 50+ have been 54% of cases and 98% of deaths overall but in June when positives have ticked up they're...

Re: soccer soccer soccer

I don’t believe this 1000%, but I think you can make the case the national team is as good as it’s been since the peak of the Bradley era. The justifiable frustration at not qualifying and the people in charge of US Soccer, plus Berhalter not caring one bit about the scoreline in friendlies has obs...

They're in on Havertz too? Did Abraham spit in Lampard's face or something? I get that to a certain extent that's life at a big club, but responding to Abraham being a top 5 EPL striker(by both non-penalty goals and non-penalty xG, plus they are way worse w/ Giroud playing) by bringing in Werner an...

Re: soccer soccer soccer

With so many changes in our world since the PL season started lo those many months ago, it’s comforting that some things never change. Lampard is still tactically bizarre. Mount & Barkley are still trash. Mount is maybe the tryhardiest player I've ever seen. As a USMNT fan and nominal Liverpool...

Re: MLB Imposes 60 Game Season, Spring Training 2.0 Starts in 7 Days

I'm not sure there's all that big an advantage to the runner on 2nd being particularly fast. If they're so fast they're going to be a difference maker then they have to be excellent odds to steal 2nd if they got in in the 9th. Even a .275 OBP with 80% odds stealing 2nd and 30% odds of driving him i...

Re: 80 game season with expanded playoffs, starting in July

none of these sports are actually going to happen this year I'd say there's a good chance MLS happens this year. NBA could happen but suddenly Orlando is the worst place to have it. NHL should be fine overall. MLB would be fine if the owners cared about anything other than their bottom line. NFL is...
