Re: The Manny Machado Thread

On the one hand, I want him traded for a really light return to set the overall market cheaper for us to get what we need.

On the other hand, we do not need as much as other teams, so I want them to have prohibitive prices to pay.

If you take away his outs, though, he's actually hitting pretty well.

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 7-11-18

DSL nonsense... Fabian Pertuz is hitting .333/.464/.425 with more walks than Ks to go with his ~12% K rate. He's also stolen 16 bases, including 2 today, and plays SS. Josue Fernandez hit his second pro HR but also struck out 4 times in a doubleheader. Luis Rodriguez has allowed just 12 hits, inclu...

I check in to read threads about 2-3 times a week...just don't post like I used to.

You should post more!

Re: Regular Season Rumors

I saw somewhere this morning that the Cubs had scouts at Eovaldi's latest start. My first thought was, "ew." However, he's actually been really good this year coming off surgery. And now Fangraphs has an article up about him: https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/nathan-eovaldi-might-be-the-bes...

Re: Albert Amora Jr

Yeah Baltimore is a good call. Though I tend to think Duquette knows what he's doing and Angelos is just a nightmare, meaning their issues are more big picture and less not properly valuing guys in trade. The larger point still stands, there aren't any FOs anymore that don't get BABIP or FIP or oth...

Re: Albert Amora Jr

I actually agree about the over-valued thing. It's not 2005 anymore, if his BABIP is really just a mirage that's not fooling anybody in the game to give up excess value for him. There are no dumb FO's anymore except maybe Colorado. Baltimore. Unless you didn't list them because dumb is way too posi...

Re: Albert Amora Jr

Insults aside, I still tend to agree with TT that all of these advanced stats are not very predictive especially with young players. If Almora is terribly over-valued at this point and due for an ugly regression according to these stats, then I'm sure the other teams use those same stats when makin...

Just what the Rockies need-another outfielder.

Re: Albert Amora Jr

Using that link (https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/expected ... HC&min=100), we should have traded Baez two years ago because he was due for a big regression. Stats are fun and great for argumentative purposes, but there's a reason the game is played on the field. Stats are good for even more than...

Would love to see Williams make it all the way back. A couple years back he was our best candidate to become Hendricks 2.0.

Re: 2018 Mid Season Top 20

What about Trent Giambrone? He’s getting love in the Minor League Musings forum. Bote 2.0 I'd like to see him walk a bit more. And I want to hear more about his defense. But, yeah, he's getting interesting. Interesting note: After walking at a 13.1% clip in AA to start the year, Vosler has gone 56 ...

Re: 2018 Mid Season Top 20

Good thread and interesting list. I've got a few major differences in my thinking, but I haven't really put together a list yet. One depressing note from the Athletic article on ODLC's suspension: Prior to that, he was once again sitting in the mid-90s. But upon his return in the Arizona Fall League...

Re: Albert Amora Jr

It's possible I'm making this up, but I believe xwOBA is at best not predictive and at worst not very useful at all because its inputs are pretty imprecise. I seem to recall some chatter on Effectively Wild about this recently. I'd be interested to read/listen if you can find a link. However, if it...

Re: Albert Amora Jr

Which means we could get a better TOR starter for Russell. Obviously, we would all love to get that TOR starter without disrupting the core of the ML roster, but unfortunately we don't have the prospects in the minors to make that kind of deal. I'm sure other teams value Baez, Schwarber, and Russel...

Re: On Bended Knee - The Rizzo Thread

Everything he’s doing looks in line with his last few years and even some encouraging things. His K rate is at an all time low, his BB rate is around career norms, his LD % is at an all time high, his GB % is lower than any year since 2015 (and below his career rate), his FB % is a tick down but no...
