Re: Cubs Sign Austin Romine

I would think this is another action that doesn't suggest a tank. Romine's a good backup catcher as those go and not really someone to sign if expecting to trade the starter like Castro might have been Or it lets them wait to see if the catching market develops in the regular season to flip romine ...

Re: Lester to Nationals

I'll always love Jon, and I enjoyed the Gordo article. Buuut I'm ready to move on from Lester's handful of 2 innings, 8 earned runs outings. He just absolutely gives you no chance in some of his starts these days. I think many of us agree with you, but I think all of the posts are just boiling-over...

Re: Padres trade for Joe Musgrove

I'm still holding out for the hope that we play the same kind of schedule as last year. We might still look pretty good against the NL Central and AL Central teams with the exception of the Twins and WS. If we have to play against "real" ML teams, it's going to be pretty ugly.

Re: Lester to Nationals

Good for Jon. I'm pretty convinced he's cooked, so I'm happy to see him get paid but also glad that it's happening somewhere else. I'm seeing a lot of pissed off Cubs fans on social media. I can't be the only one here that had no desire seeing Lester pitch in 2021 on the Cubs. 2015-2018 were awesom...

Mets, Cubs Had “Recent Trade Talks” About Kris Bryant

They hint that either Davis or Smith might be the return.

Re: 2020 Offseason Thread

I'm kinda glad Grossman is off the market tbh. Not a good defender, .721 OPS against RHP in his career, career SLGs are .376 and .390 against RH and LHP respectively....woulda coulda shoulda been a quality under the radar signing years ago, fully on radar this FA and yeah, pass...There's still bigg...

Re: Darvish & Caratini to the Padres for Zach Davies & 4 Rookie Ball Prospects

From Cubs Insider: https://www.cubsinsider.com/2021/01/02/not-talking-seriously-about-jake-cronenworth-may-give-clues-to-cubs-plans/ This is totally insane. The Cubs never considered someone with his skills who is controlled for 5 more years while making the league minimum. "They didn't want to...

Re: Darvish & Caratini to the Padres for Zach Davies & 4 Rookie Ball Prospects

It's going to be fun when 2024 rolls around and these guys are ready to play, but the Ricketts decide to not spend any money in order to fund Trump's campaign Speaking of Trump, I think we'll be getting a lot of lies and claims of fake news from the Cubs starting with Hoyer's claim that the Darvish...

Re: Contreras Being “Extensively” Shopped

You know when we saw rumors that SD was shopping for a catcher with Darvish I assumed that meant Contreras and the Cubs were gonna pick their pockets for elite talent. Instead they got Caratini and from there I thought "Oh wow, the Cubs are going to commit to Contreras behind the plate" B...

Re: 2020 Offseason Thread

So the current rumors are that Contreras is getting shopped and that Baez and Rizzo extensions are pretty likely. Take that all together, and this would presumably be the team heading into 2022: SP - Hendricks, Alzolay, Mills, Colin Rea, Cory Abbott C - Amaya 1B - Rizzo 2B - Hoerner SS - Baez 3B - ...

Re: Contreras Being “Extensively” Shopped

2. You have to get MLB or near MLB pieces back. If you're not going the fire sale route, you wanna do what you can to make this dip as short as possible. Darvish freed up money for next winter's FA bonanza, but did nothing to directy improve the '22 team. If you can fill a spot or (ideally) two on ...

Re: Contreras Being “Extensively” Shopped

Play all of the 18-20 year olds. Tbf, that's not crazy far from what the people have been demanding for years now (though 18-20 is likely a little young for the league's agenda, don't want to undermine the NCAA!). I think it's pretty cool the Cubs have a couple guys you can squint and see making a ...

Re: Darvish & Caratini to the Padres for Zach Davies & 4 Rookie Ball Prospects

For those of you pushing for a fire sale, what kind of shrewd deals do you think Hoyer can make on Rizzo, Bryant, Baez, etc. when this is all he could get for Darvish & Caratini? I will say that GMs should be lined up at Hoyer's door after this deal. Looks that way now, lots of risk being taken...
