Re: 2019-20 Offseason Rumors/General Chit-Chat

Would this be allowed to skirt the LT..... Lester has a LT hit of $25 million currently. He’s owed $20 million this year and has a $10 mil buyout/$25 mil option next year. Could we sign him to like 2/35 so his LT hit comes down ~$8 million? Lester probably thinks that with Rossy running the show, h...

The only skill set that Almora or most of our relief pitchers need is that they are inexpensive.

Re: Cubs sign Jason Adam

They did it last year with Ryan, Wick and Wieck. I have faith they can figure it out with another 1-3 guys this year given the quantity and more flexibility the bullpen options have vs last year (almost all have minor league options left so they can get aggressive with shuffling through). You were ...

Re: Cubs sign Jason Adam

There is definitely enough depth and talent to put together a pretty effective 600-700 innings, it's just going to come down to how good Ross/Theo/etc is at putting the right guys in the right spots. Not really something I would trust Maddon with...we'll see how it goes for this year. Somebody will...

Re: Cubs sign Jason Adam

How do you know that it is "instead of"? Well we certainly have the "quantity" part covered, but the "quality" part has yet to be proven. Signing a bunch of castoffs from other teams doesn't bode well for optimism, but we might get lucky with 1 or 2. Well, we signed a ...

Re: Cubs sign Jason Adam

Minor league/major league contract jokes aside, we are going to have a solid bullpen this year with the way we’ve gone about building it. It may take until Memorial Day or so to sort it out, but there’s a solid bullpen in all these options to be figured out. Quantity instead of quality doesn't nece...

Re: 2019-20 Offseason Rumors/General Chit-Chat

How does signing a 30 YO Starlin Castro signal that a team is getting ready to trade their top infield prospect given how teams operate these days? Castro's been a 1-2 WAR guy for half a decade now Because they’re using their top IF prospect to get more certainty in a 4-5+ win KB and still need to ...

i was just thinking how happy i'd be if we just kept bryant and then i realized that the ricketts have successfully made me content with doing nothing Well PTR won't be happy until we get under the LT so there will be some moves made. https://twitter.com/jonmorosi/status/1212817789720940548?s=21 The Cubs also loom as a possible suitor, especially if they trade former National League MVP Kris Bryant in a move to obtain young pitching. Seems unlikely just because it would take a series of trades to line up to make it happen or the...

Re: 2019-20 Offseason Rumors/General Chit-Chat

Chatwood still has negative value and since we’re basically punting 2020 at this point, the most logical thing is to trade Quintana and give Chatwood one of the rotation spots hoping you can flip him to a contender at the deadline. The only way he gets traded now is if the FH is desperate to get un...

Re: 2019-20 Offseason Rumors/General Chit-Chat

I think it’s pretty much as simple as you aren’t getting anything back for either and you’re going to have to include money and/or prospects you don’t want to move to move either of them. If you are that desperate to save money, then you either kick in some cash or add a prospect to get rid of them...

Re: 2019-20 Offseason Rumors/General Chit-Chat

If you're trading KB and Q, then why in the world are we keeping a $16 million closer and a $13 million relief pitcher? Probably because of one of the following: 1) depending on the returns, the Cubs could either still be favored or at least have a realistic shot in the division 2) you're hoping fo...

Re: 2019-20 Offseason Rumors/General Chit-Chat

Yeah I don’t see how they can do a Javy extension if they are going under the LT. Or see how that’s the smart thing to do at least, it keeps them from adding anything pretty much. I think ultimately we see both KB and Q dealt, which would put the team ~$27M under the tax. That's enough room to exte...

why do you do this Because if a 22 year-old hit 31 HR in his rookie season for the Cubs, you would be gushing about how great he is. If he literally brought nothing else of value to the table to being a good baseball player I doubt it. Especially in an environment everyone with a pulse and and coup...

The White Sox have been busy this offseason. Jerry finally spent a little bit of dough, but they still seem like a fringe WC team to me. Not a huge fan of Anderson, Madrigal or Eloy really.
