Re: 2020 roster

If the Phillies don't Non-tender Hernandez, a swap of him for Chatwood makes a lot of sense for both teams. I know it's been mentioned before. I just feel like bringing it up again.

Russell as good as gone. I feel like there's a deal to be had in which we send Almora to someone for a useful reliever.

Re: 2020 roster

How shortsighted/dumb would it be to let Mills and Alzolay battle it out for the 5th spot? I like what they both bring to the table. Or should we allow them to do the same for the long-relief role. I honestly thing they'd be better options for 5 than Chatwood, who seems to thrive in a LR role.

What would that realistically take?

Schwarber/Happ/Amaya/Marquez?

Re: 2020 roster

Do we still have Tony Kemp under contract? Rather DFA Descalso and keep Kemp.

Q is still an affordable rotation option. Would depend on the reliever we're getting back.

Thanks for everything, Joe. The Cubs won a World Series. Some people forget that.

So now what? Change was definitely needed but who are the top names to fill the void?

Does an Almora+ for Jackie Bradley trade do anything for anyone? I've liked JBJ awhile, Sox trying to trim some salary.

Re: 2020 roster

I do think there's something there with the Phillies. They need pitching badly and have expendable position players. I really do think a Chatwood for Hernandez deal makes sense with others involved. Pivetta wasn't that good this year. I'd rather have Eflin if any of them but I don't think they give ...

Hultzen finally makes it; guy who looks at cameras DFA'd

It has been a long and winding road for former first-round draft pick Danny Hultzen, but the path will finally pass through the majors. The Cubs southpaw has received his first MLB promotion, according to Brett Taylor of Bleacher Nation (via Twitter). Hultzen, 29, was the second overall pick of the...

Re: Minor League Park Roadtrip - Prospects to Watch!

I live in Philly and have been to a few Ironpigs and Reading Phillies games the last couple years. They have some decent prospects in that system. Not sure if Bohm will be in Lehigh Valley by then but at the moment some major leaguers are on the roster in Nick Williams, Maikel Franco, Logan Morrison...

Re: Minor League Musings

Not sure where to put this but The Cubs have signed right-hander Chih-Wei Hu to a minor league contract, according to Roster Roundup. Hu had been pitching in the Indians’ farm system before being released from that minors deal in late July. After posting a 3.52 ERA, 8.2 K/9, and 3.00 K/BB rate over ...

Re: Breakdown of Cubs Bullpen Options for 2020

I really do think Wick's spot next year is his to lose at this point. He's looked great. I've been a big fan of Mills and would like to see him enter ST with a shot at a role too. Kimbrel Wick Ryan Chatwood Mills Phelps with: Wieck, Mekkes, Maples, Norwood, Underwood, Clifton, Rea, Brooks, Steele as...

Re: Minor League Musings

We have a decent amount of middle relief option in Iowa between Underwood, Mills, Mekkes, Maples, Brooks, etc. I wonder how many get a look for a role next year with Kintzler, Cishek, Strop contracts all up.

Also pointing out we're on page 69.

Oscar de la Cruz cleared waivers. We get to keep him for now. I'd imagine he's Rule 5 eligible.

Yeah it's weird his defensive numbers declined so sharply but he'd be a solid get for September (no offense Taylor Davis). Of course we won't be the only ones thinking that.

Re: Greinke to Astros

Fascinating moves by the DIamondbacks. They give up Greinke and Jasrado Chisholm, a personal favorite that had stalled badly this year, and add a good arm in Zac Gallen, plus some interesting prospects. Honestly, I'm floored the Marlins gave up Gallen for just Jasrado Chisholm, considering the year...
