Re: 2020 Offseason Thread

It's really not a big deal in the end, but it annoys me that we just let Ervin go and his spot is probably going to Maybin. I think Ervin would've handled that spot better. Honestly still prefer having both of them to giving a few million to Marisnick but whatever.

Re: Maybin Back on MiLB Deal

Yeah this is fine with me. If he's willing to hang in AAA for a bit then that's cool. Surprised he signed somewhere with no clear path to playing time, let alone on the MLB roster but I like the depth.

Also Maybin is still just 33 and I don't understand.

Re: Cubs sign Brandon Workman

Like others have said, he was trash last year but incredible in 2019. Solid buy-low guy. I like the Phillies but it seems like they've messed with a lot of guys the past few years so we'll see what happens.

Carlos Santana who can stay behind the plate would be incredible.

Re: 2020 Offseason Thread

In a world with PTR doing his thing, Ildemaro Vargas is actually a little more interesting than I realized for 2b reps (and I do mean a little). I don't think I cared enough to look him up last year when we acquired him. Honestly rather go with him and/or Matt Duffy/Giambrone as the extra infielder...

I hope it’s not Jeffress, don’t want to bank on his smoke and mirrors from last year. Hopefully it’s Kennedy, Rosenthal or Greene.

We watched David Robertson's session. I like him as a bounce back candidate.

Re: Jake is Back

I assume this does mean a six man rotation. Gonna need innings and the shortened season definitely effed with some guys. So yeah looking at Hendricks, Davies, Jake, Mills, Williams, Alzolay and when those guys need a rest Miller and Abbott come into play. Maybe Shelby Miller.

Re: 2020 Offseason Thread

Yeah I don't know how much more we're gonna get out of Maples. He was a nice story but now he's just taking up space. Maybe he figures it out elsewhere. Alcantara or Vargas would make sense too. They're just dime a dozen backup infielders.

Yeah I'm exciting about this for mostly nostalgic reasons. I don't think he has much left but we need somewhat reliable starters.

The Athletics and Dodgers are in agreement on a trade that’ll sent lefty Adam Kolarek and minor league outfielder Cody Thomas from L.A. to Oakland in exchange for infielder Sheldon Neuse and minor league righty Gus Varland, ESPN’s Jeff Passan reports (via Twitter). Wasn't Neuse a top prospect? Seem...

Re: Potential Kris Bryant trade thread

JD Davis isn't that great. He's a terrible defender and is streaky. Really hope we wouldn't try to get him as KB's replacement. I'd assume Jeff McNeil is off the table.

Re: Cubs Sign Jake Marisnick

I mean, it's fine. I don't see how he's that much better than Almora for more money. Ervin can't play CF, right? I guess that's part of the reasoning behind this signing. I suppose it's possible this pushes Ervin off the roster.

The Rangers are closing in on a one-year, Major League contract with free-agent right-hander Mike Foltynewicz, reports Kiley McDaniel of ESPN (via Twitter). So we're not getting him, which is fine. We're gonna just end up bringing back Kipnis on a minor league deal and call it a day at second base. Did you guys know he's from the Chicago area?

Traded for him at the deadline while he was on IL. He came back at the tail end of the season, pitched just 3 innings.

Re: Cubs sign Andrew Chafin

I'm a fan of this. I liked the acquisition at the deadline and he's been good over the years. If he's over his injury then he's a solid left for the pen, especially if Kyle Ryan can't figure it out.
