Re: Trade targets 2019

I mean, I'd love to unload junk on Baltimore. Let's just offer Russell and some of our AAA arms for Givens and Villar and see what happens.

I don't get the intense love for Castellanos. He's an OK bat and a terrible fielder and he'd be a rental.

Well, in my opinion at least, he completely intentionally trucked Lucroy giving him a broken nose and a concussion.

Oh yeah, I forgot that was him. Never mind, then.

Re: Martin Maldonado to Cubs

I've thought about this trade more......and I'm still annoyed we sold so low on Monty for a backup catcher we could've had for $2 million in the offseason. I'm not questioning that Maldonado fits an important need, and is good to have with Willy on the IL. And I figured we'd be trading Monty anyway....

Re: Martin Maldonado to Cubs

I know Monty has been bad and hurt this year but trading him straight up for a rental backup catcher is beyond horsefeathering stupid. I'm actually mad about this. Caratini has been solid as a backup and 2B has been a black hole and the pen is a mess but ok. Yeah wtf this trade makes no horsefeathe...

Re: Trade targets 2019

Eduardo Nunez was just DFA'd. Take a flyer? Trade Descalso or Russell for him? Change of scenery candidate? Idk, I just don't want either of those jabronis playing anymore.

Re: Trade targets 2019

I'm a big fan of Mallex Smith. I know I mentioned him before but I think he'd thrive in Wrigley and wouldn't cost too much.

Also, Ian Kennedy has been incredible out of the Royals pen. If they're picking up some of the tab to move his contract, he also might be a nice option that wouldn't cost much.

Re: Minor League Musings

According the the Baseball America transactions page, we released Brad Markey and he was scooped up by the Reds. There was a time I thought he'd be an interesting reliever for us. Oh well.

Re: Trade targets 2019

Tayler Scott was a member of our highly touted 2011 draft (5th rounder). He can become the first South African born pitcher in the majors (and this obviously will be his major league debut). Good story.

Haniger's injury is NOT a good story.

Re: ChiCargo Cubs - AKA that bad man can't hurt you anymore

David Kelton and Brendan Harris were guys I was really looking forward to panning out. Oops. Along with Bobby Hill, Hee Seop Choi, Augie Ojeda, etc., etc. Okay, maybe not Augie Ojeda. Nic Jackson too. I learned recently that he just retired a couple of years ago. Yeah he played in Indy ball forever...

Re: 2019 Actual MLB Draft Day(s) Thread

Nice get with Hearn. So 7 pitchers, 1 infielder and 2 catchers? Interesting. And those 8-10 rounders seems like severe underslots so I'd guess we have some more money to play with yes?

Former Cubs draft pick (and pitcher at my alma mater PSU) Dante Biasi went in 6th round to Royals. Cubs took him in 22nd round in 2016, didn't sign.

Yeah, like I said before, these guys seem pretty interesting, but I'd have to imagine there's some underslot savings of some kind with three straight TJS pitchers.

Re: 2019 Actual MLB Draft Day(s) Thread

The top pitcher in Louisville's 2016 recruiting class, McAvene was carving out a role as a freshman when he blew out his elbow in April. He returned to the mound a year later following Tommy John surgery and has emerged as the Cardinals' closer this spring. He offers additional intrigue because of ...
