I was waiting for him to retire and become Iowa's manager or something. It shocked me to learn he is somehow just 29.

Re: Caratini to IL; Taylor Davis up

It would be great if we could win a game without someone getting hurt.

Davis should be fine for a handful of games but we really need more depth. Anything resembling an acceptable backup catcher left on the market?

Tseng released. I'm sure he'll end up somewhere on a bad team in need of innings. Had long hoped he'd be Hendricks-lite.

He had nowhere to play on this team, at the time his defense was pretty awful, and we traded him for a decent swingman who also CLOSED OUT GAME 7 OF OUR WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONSHIP.

Bullpen shakeup, Carl's Jr optioned to Iowa

In a relatively surprising development out of Chicago, the Cubs will option Carl Edwards Jr. to Triple-A Iowa, per Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun Times (via Twitter). Mike Montgomery, meanwhile, has been put on the injured list, per ESPN’s Jesse Rogers (via Twitter), who also announced the Ed...

Re: 2018-19 Other Team Offseason Transactions Not Worth a New Thread

The Marlins released Dan Straily because reasons. He's a replacement level player due to make 3.4 mil on a team going nowhere. That's basically nothing and he was worth over 2 fWAR in 2017 (and a 4.3 bWAR in 2016). Maybe they tried trading him and found no takers, idk. Especially shocking consideri...

I get the reasoning behind it, but it's still surprising and I'm sure Happ went out and murdered some vagrants with Ted Lilly or something.

I like Caratini but there's a number of decent backup catchers on the market now for cheap. Really hoping we pick one up.

How's Rosario looked this spring? Could he suffice as the other lefty in the pen until Cedeno is healthy?

It still the "offseason"? The Cubs made a number of roster moves today, with promising righties Adbert Alzolay and Jen-Ho Tseng being optioned to Triple-A, while Justin Steele and Oscar De La Cruz were sent to Double-A, per the Athletic’s Patrick Mooney (Twitter links). Also on the move, D...

How do you like Dewees nutz?

The Royals have acquired right-handed pitcher Stephen Ridings from the Cubs in exchange for Donnie Dewees, the team announced (via Twitter). Ridings, 23, was an 8th round draft pick of the Cubs in 2016. Last season for the Eugene Emeralds, the Cubs short season A-ball club, he went 3-3 with a 4.15 ...

Just 15 months removed from signing a three-year, $38MM contract with the Cubs, righty Tyler Chatwood isn’t a lock to make their roster this season, Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune observes. Chatwood said Saturday he views himself as a starter, but he’s not a candidate for Chicago’s season-ope...
