Re: Trade targets 2019

Tayler Scott was a member of our highly touted 2011 draft (5th rounder). He can become the first South African born pitcher in the majors (and this obviously will be his major league debut). Good story.

Haniger's injury is NOT a good story.

Re: ChiCargo Cubs - AKA that bad man can't hurt you anymore

David Kelton and Brendan Harris were guys I was really looking forward to panning out. Oops. Along with Bobby Hill, Hee Seop Choi, Augie Ojeda, etc., etc. Okay, maybe not Augie Ojeda. Nic Jackson too. I learned recently that he just retired a couple of years ago. Yeah he played in Indy ball forever...

I can't believe we got him and can't believe we got him for just 3/45. What a deal.

Re: 2019 Actual MLB Draft Day(s) Thread

Nice get with Hearn. So 7 pitchers, 1 infielder and 2 catchers? Interesting. And those 8-10 rounders seems like severe underslots so I'd guess we have some more money to play with yes?

So Leiter is still available? Are teams just assuming he'd be too expensive/is set on going to college?

Re: 2019 Actual MLB Draft Day(s) Thread

Former Cubs draft pick (and pitcher at my alma mater PSU) Dante Biasi went in 6th round to Royals. Cubs took him in 22nd round in 2016, didn't sign.

Re: 2019 Actual MLB Draft Day(s) Thread

Yeah, like I said before, these guys seem pretty interesting, but I'd have to imagine there's some underslot savings of some kind with three straight TJS pitchers.

Re: 2019 Actual MLB Draft Day(s) Thread

These guys are all relievers but seems like they have good stuff to work with? Maybe the hope is to stick a couple in the rotation in the early going to see if they can stick?

Re: 2019 Actual MLB Draft Day(s) Thread

The top pitcher in Louisville's 2016 recruiting class, McAvene was carving out a role as a freshman when he blew out his elbow in April. He returned to the mound a year later following Tommy John surgery and has emerged as the Cardinals' closer this spring. He offers additional intrigue because of ...

Re: 2019 Actual MLB Draft Day(s) Thread

That's..... underwhelming? Good fastball but a guy who projects as a reliever already doesn't seem great. I feel like in previous years we'd say "they'll use the savings later right?" And then they don't

CarGo has had a really solid career. He's just not that good anymore. Maybe he'll be our 2008 Jim Edmonds. Or he'll be our 2017 Leonys Martin.

He hit a homer in Iowa and that's all they needed to see I suppose. He's not on the 40 man right? Aducci or someone like Collins or Webster getting DFA'd.

Re: 2018-19 Other Team Offseason Transactions Not Worth a New Thread

The Phillies are getting Jay Bruce for basically nothing other than covering most of his salary.

For someone who's been an All-Star three times and has 300 career homers, Bruce is a fairly forgettable/meh player.

Re: Kimbrel?

Is it after Round 1 of the draft or after the draft completes that no compensation would be tied to Kimbrel? Because seeing him pitch next week for us would be pretty cool.
