Re: The Starting Pitching Trade Candidates

I have just assumed we're losing Arrieta. The acquisition of Leonys makes me think he'll be the Jay-type outfielder next year. I really want to bring Davis back on a reasonable deal. I think Avila gets starter money or promised more at bats by someone else. I'd be cool with keeping Rene Rivera thoug...

Re: The Starting Pitching Trade Candidates

The Jays extended Marco Estrada. Too bad. He's had a down year but I wouldn't have minded him as a backend of the rotation option.

Also the Padres extended the MLB leader in hits allowed (and former Cubs great) Clayton Richard.

He couldn't make it through the game without allowing a hit. Should he be brought back next season?

Also, I just cracked open a bottle of my second homebrew, a chocolate milk stout, and damn it's good. I'm very happy, since my first one (a maple porter) was too sweet and didn't carbonate and was basically syrup.

https://twitter.com/midwatchbrewing/status/907642193350987776 I freelance for a beer publication and have talked to a bunch of brewers and yeah, you'd be surprised. For some it's obvious, like the brewery with an ESB as the flagship beer, the head brewer loves ESBs and English milds. But I've talke...

Re: The Des Moines shuttle

He really seems like a Hendricks-type pitcher. Not overpowering stuff but great command. I like him as an option for the 5th start spot next year. This move does seem questionable now though. I'd also guess Davis is catching him today? Joe would've had to of gotten into the meth for Taylor Davis to...

Yup, both deserving. This is Tseng's second one, right?

Re: The Des Moines shuttle

As much as I have a soft spot for Pierce Johnson, leatherstitch should have kept his spot. Same for hannemann. Not sure how Martin is better.

The said, really happy for Davis.

Yeah no reason for Frankoff. If they need another starter they'll call up Butler or Mills.

Re: Cubs trade for Leonys Martin

This has to be a trade for next year right? He requires a 40 man spot if he is added this year and I don't know where he would play. seems odd to make a move for next year at the playoff roster deadline. not that it couldn't be. but we have a month to figure out if he has a place on the playoff ros...

What gets it done, hypothetically? Would we trade Caratini or Zagunis or go with players not on the 40 man who would be candidates to be added?

Re: Justin Upton to the Angels

Detroit will receive right-hander Grayson Long from the Angels in the trade, Crasnick reports (Twitter link). Long, 23, was the Angels’ third-round pick in 2015 and rates as the No. 9 prospect in Anaheim’s thin farm system, per Jonathan Mayo and Jim Callis of MLB.com. It’s not yet clear what (if an...

Re: General Baseball Chit-Chat Thread

I think has been said before but Joey Gallo is having a weird season. He has 36 home runs and an .893 OPS, but with a .203 batting average and a .227 BABIP. He has 73 hits on the year and only 20 of those are singles. Over a full season, he would have 51 homers with 98 RBI. In the month of August, h...

Re: Talk Arrieta here

Wei-Yin Chen and Mike Leake each got $80 million. Arrieta is easily getting $100. Probably 150 from a team with cash that's desperate for pitching (Rangers, Giants, Yankees, heck even the Astros).
