Re: New MLB Playoff proposal... Crazy good or bad?

This makes complete sense for baseball as a business. It desperately needs more news cycles. Having both more teams involved late into the season and also generating discussions through September about which team should this team pick and so on is very helpful for the brand. As far as the actual qua...

Re: NFL Playoffs: Wildcard Round

So, yeah there's playoff games this week. #TITANUP. But there's also potential for me to win a lot of money. I entered a playoff fantasy league, where it has typical 1/2 point PPR fantasy rules. Teams consist of: 2 QB 3 RB 3 WR 2 TE 1 K 1 DEF But you only get 1 player from each of the 12 playoff te...

Re: Video Game Thread

Wow, I had no idea the gulf between Xbox and PS sales on the last generation was so steep: http://www.vgchartz.com/article/436094/switch-vs-ps4-vs-xbox-one-global-lifetime-salesjanuary-2019/ And there's Nintendo seemingly nipping at Microsoft's heels. Ouch. That's mostly because XBox has never been...

Re: NFL offseason

Basically, if it was mental well-being then I get it. One hundred percent. But he’s referenced the physical aspect along with “the life he wants to live”. Again, I get that but it’s the end of August, he should have made up his mind before summer if that was the case. Though, I guess counterargumen...

BTW this is a great example of what can happen when you talk some poop before actually doing anything: https://twitter.com/Colts/status/975020658945118208?s=20 Why wouldn't they be happy about getting a bunch of picks? A bunch of picks including their All-pro guard as a rookie and their starting ri...

Beyond that, you can't really point to a lot that he's done in the last couple years that have added to the short term or long term success of this club. Agreed the last two years have not been his greatest, but that isnt a sample size large enough for me to start saying they arent an elite FO or t...

Re: The Ball is Insanely Juiced

A situation where municipalities are pressured into subsidizing another round of brand new buildings is not a solution to anything. The Cubs just spent money to make Wrigley viable, there is no space to go bigger. They aren't getting another Yankee Stadium or Fenway or Citi or PNC, etc. Definitely,...

Re: The Ball is Insanely Juiced

Is the potential solution to the strikeouts/walks/home runs era to keep this juiced ball and then slowly build gigantic ballparks? I am open to that being a terrible idea for some reason I'm not thinking of, but my perception is that would create a lot more action both in the field and on the bases...

what kind of speed should I be looking for with regards to internet for cord cutting? I want to say my building is locked into RCN. My cable bill is largely outrageous because of fees. Ha. I used to play there. I never played again after one game lasting several years...a game that I pretty sure CCP was involved in. I'm guessing it was a progressive bonus game? Those are the worst. Nope, flat rate cards. 3 of us got big enough and had similar enough armies that if we went after s...

Re: Rule Changes Are Coming

I'll be the contrarian and say that I really like all these changes. I like the most important innings in the game to have a flow to them and not have 3 minute breaks multiple times during the inning. Limiting pitching changes and mound visits really helps with that. Baseball has already talked abou...

Re: The Bryce is Right, Bitch

saying "hey an opt out might work out for the team" is not the same as "this is good for the team because he is definitely going to opt out." Sure, but that's not what that quote is saying. It's saying it's bad for the team to not have an opt out, that they should want an opt ou...

Re: The Bryce is Right, Bitch

no one describes them either of those two ways That's not true, this was literally posted yesterday after the Harper news came out: 13 year deal with no opt outs seem bad for both Harper AND the team Harper passes on the chance to get a second contract in his early 30s, the Phillies pass on a chanc...

yeah and we're doing that thing again where we pretend that the opt outs don't have monetary value and aren't exchanged for guaranteed dollars. kyle likes to go this route a lot when he goes all "the player opt outs are pure downside for the team" Nah, I get that part. That’s still not ho...

Re: The Bryce is Right, Bitch

I wouldn't be upset by the deal, but anytime you stretch out a deal that long even hitting that low WAR number is a risk. Pujols for example over his last 13 years has averaged 3.88 WAR per year. And those 13 years include 2 MVP years out of him, 2 2nd place finishes, and 2 other top 10 MVP years. ...

Re: The Bryce is Right, Bitch

I think he could've managed to make that in nine years. Me too, especially as that will be post-strike and with a new CBA. But it's undeniably a gamble - both on his own performance in the interim and the players' resolve holding. Harper would have been a FA at 30 - seems very probable to me he'd b...

Hey there, CCP - haven't seen you in a while. Thanks! I don't get to follow the team as closely as I used to. I still am around a decent amount, but don't feel like my opinions are informed enough at this point to be of any value. That's the hard thing about baseball, it's hard to have a middle gro...

Re: Favorite Cubs dongs?

Speaking of random memories, I'm looking for a video of a play that probably happened around 1990. I believe Dawson (but maybe somebody else) was attempting to throw a runner out at home. The catcher blocked the plate, and when he tagged the runner he dropped the ball. The runner never touched home ...

Re: NFL Playoffs

You can't compare a missed facemask call or hold, etc, with a blatant blown call at the point of attack in that game situation. You guys would be blowing a gasket if that were against the Bears. It was a blatant a miss as I've ever seen, especially given the circumstances. I absolutely can compare ...

Re: NFL Playoffs

How much times would’ve been left if the Saints didn’t stupidly pass on first and third down (yes I know the pass led to PI so it was “smart” in a way)? But if they just run 3 times and kick a FG the Rams would’ve had ~40 seconds and no TOs to try and kick a tying FG? Assuming every play took about...

Re: 2017-2018 NBA Season

I saw a crazy note on Twitter today. Ben Simmons has not made a 3 pointer in a game since High School/AAU. Didn’t make one at LSU and hasn’t made one in the NBA. That seems impossible for a guy who has the ball in his hands so often, you'd think he would've had to shoot and make one with the shot c...

Re: General Baseball Chit-Chat Thread

The starting with a runner on 2nd base idea is terrible. They might as well start with one out and the bases loaded. I have to imagine almost every inning would begin with IBB, sac bunt, IBB. I doubt that would be the strategy, at least for the top of the inning. If you know you are going to get yo...

"Ugh I wish this exciting playoff game was shorter!" Mound visits are the opposite of exciting. Multiple mound visits in the same inning is really really really the opposite of exciting. And they kept huddling after every play in the Super Bowl. Sorry for jumping in late here. To keep tha...
