Re: Politics & Current Events

The CBO report is massive to whether this passes or not. If it shows large numbers of uninsured, then Collins and Murkowski probably join the list of opposed, with Portman and Capito possibly joining them. The other key in the CBO report is the money. If it's too close to the House bill in amounts o...

Re: RE: Re: NBA Playoffs (bulls also)

I assume that's exactly what will happen. They'll trade him for whatever the best offer is involving either just picks or another expiring and a pick. Possibly, but I think that's a very small window in the next couple of weeks. After that, it's hard for teams to come up with 17+ million of expirin...

Re: NBA Playoffs (bulls also)

The idiotic contracts of last offseason are really biting the Lakers in the ass right now. Had no reason giving Mozgov and Deng the contracts they did and now to offer maxes next offseason they need to attach real assets to get little back just to dump them. I really wanted to see Lonzo and Russell...

Re: NBA Playoffs (bulls also)

When the consensus top 2 players in the draft are PG's, does Boston consider trading Thomas? I'm not really expecting a trade of anyone of note until next season at the earliest. Could see them spinning off some backcourt depth like Smart or Rozier. How willing are the Celtics to go deep into the l...

Re: NBA Playoffs (bulls also)

I think the eras that MJ and LBJ played in are too different to really compare them that much though. The changes in handchecking rules, the expansion of the league (leading to a somewhat diluted talent pool) and changes in the game (importance of the 3-pt shot especially) just make it all so diffe...

Re: Politics & Current Events

It's right there in the song. How they can pass a bill through the House and then completely scrap it and write a new one? If the Senate passes a bill with any changes from the House one, then the House and the Senate have to come together in conference and agree on one bill which then has to pass ...

Re: Politics & Current Events

Knowing very little about how Congress voting works, if this disaster of a bill gets through the House, is this something the Republican Senators can force through, a la the Gorsuch vote? I guess this is technically a budget bill so just requires a simple majority rather than 60 votes? Can get push...

Re: RE: Re: Politics & Current Events

So the Dems give away their leverage and agree to a spending bill to keep the government running. Meanwhile it sounds like the GOP may finally have the votes for their healthcare bill. I don't understand how much more you expected for the Democrats to do with their leverage. The Republicans got def...

Re: Video Game Thread

I could see Best Buy's having stock, especially if they don't have them or any sign out on the floor indicating they are in stock. I didn't even really think about them as a potential seller until the website yesterday had them. Also, in stores I had been in previously, I didn't bother asking people...

Re: Video Game Thread

I got it! I felt like a fisherman trying to catch a wriggling fish. The page I was refreshing wasn't showing them, but then I clicked the link from the tweet Best Buy sent and got in. It then took almost 10 minutes to add to the cart, another 5-7 minutes to get to the final screen, and then 15 minut...

Re: Politics & Current Events

I'm torn on what is the worst outcome for Trump. A) Let's it die and damage an already damaged credibility issue. Obamacare continue to roll on, proving that it will die on it's own is a false narrative used by all GOP. But, it would allow him to go to issues that all GOP can get behind, tax reform...

Re: Top 108 Moments for the 2016 Cubs (Now at #24)

From someone who regrettably didn't see most of his starts during the season, were the pickoffs by Hendricks during the playoffs just a tiny sample size, or is he really one of the best in the league at that? He had at least two of them and maybe three of them during the postseason, which seems usua...

I can't find his PFF grades for 2016, but it doesn't look like he was in need of a rebound going in based on this https://www.profootballfocus.com/colts-upgrade-at-cornerback-with-addition-of-patrick-robinson/ He was hurt quite a bit last year. The games he played I saw a lot of criticism, but I wa...

https://twitter.com/CitizenCohn/status/839884883015118849 It's more basic than that. This is literally the entire concept of insurance. Insurance is everyone pooling a bit of money so if tragedy strikes one of them, they don't bear the entire cost alone. If people who stay healthy don't lose money ...

Re: Politics & Current Events

Healthcare is going to keep tripping up both parties for the foreseeable future. If you look at the polls, this is one area where the American public is really unreasonable. They want all the benefits without any of the costs. Republicans struck a tough bargain when they chose to highlight health ca...

https://twitter.com/realdonaldtrump/status/835608648625836032 How unusual is it for the sitting president to not attend the correspondents dinner? Well I definitely think its too soon to congratulate guys like Graham and McCain, as the deadspin article suggests, actually show me something/ do somethin...

Re: New extra inning rule being tested

I will fully admit I'm probably one of those people MLB is trying to get. I follow the team all season, but during the regular season I don't actually watch very many games anymore. Makes perfect sense. I don't want to start watching a game just to turn it off before the end, so I just avoid it alt...

Re: New extra inning rule being tested

I am not a fan of this rule btw. Extra inning games are interesting and bring fascinating strategy into play. And the stakes are always high because one swing of the bat can swing the game at any time. They are often the most memorable and fun games of a regular season. Trying to end them early robs...

Re: New extra inning rule being tested

Yeah the time thing is so stupid in terms of talking about reducing time to get more fans. If you like baseball and have 2 hours and 50 min to watch a game you have and will watch a game that goes 3 hours and 20 minutes and if you don't like it it doesn't matter the time you aren't changing viewing...

Re: NFL Thread 2016

I've never liked the OT rules very much. I especially don't like that the impact is so different for different types of teams. If you have two great defenses playing each other, the coin toss isn't very important. But when you have two great offenses, it becomes much more important. My solution woul...

So, yeah, my brother and his wife just had their first kid today (after a miscarriage in 2015) and he was born with Downs Syndrome. Re: Politics & Current Events

While Devos did pass through committee to the full senate vote, Murkowski does sound like she is on the fence (even though her committee vote did ensure she got through). She probably caves in the end, but we'll see. Collins too. They both stressed they were voting yes because they believe the bar ...

Re: soccer soccer soccer

As a casual fan of soccer I really like this. There will be quite a few more games with win or go home stakes than there is now. There will be more Cinderellas crashing the final 8. The variety of teams will be bigger from year to year, so it will be fun to watch a bunch of different countries. I t...
