Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 6-13-19

I can't breakdown what a pitcher is doing in his delivery, but watching Albertos last night, it seemed clear to me that it's all release point with this guy. He's a lot closer to finding it consistently than he was a year ago for sure, but he still struggles to maintain it. Once/If he ever gets cons...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 6-13-19

Speaking of Myrtle Beach, what the hell is up with Alex Lange? He starts out with 4 terrible games in April: 9 IP, 27 H, 7 BB, 10 K, 21.00 ERA, 3.78 WHIP (.600 babip) He then throws a no-hit, shutout thru 5 innings walking 4 and striking out 7. Then it's 4 more bad starts in a row for the rest of Ma...

Indeed, sir. Alzolay, Miller and Marquez should be fun to watch. And TBD might be the best guy they have in Myrtle Beach, too.

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 6-12-19

How much more does Daniel Descalso have to make me miss Aaron Miles before we get a look at Robel Garcia? Aaron Miles! Ha! That's a blast from the past. Unfortunately, I think it's going to take an injury to Descalso or one of the other Cubs infielders before we see Garcia. But if he keeps this up:...

Re: International Free Agency Thread 2018-2019

BA did their Cubs review of their IFA signings: https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/2018-19-international-reviews-chicago-cubs/ The Cubs signed 29 players in calendar year 2018. Ben Badler highlighted the big names: ⋅ RHP Richard Gallardo - Was 89-93 when he signed but ticked up to 95...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 6-5-19

I know he had a HBP so it's sort of just semantics but this looks like Albertos' first outing without a walk since August 10 of 2017. You are correct, sir. His last game without a walk occurred August 10th of 2017. Furthermore, prior to today, he's never had a 3 outing stretch in which he's walked ...

Depperman was selected by the Cubs in 2014 out of high school in the 31st round. He was ranked 192nd by BA... back then. Welcome back, Brad.

It’s the year of the bounce back. Chatwood, Contreras, Heyward (to a certain extent so far), Bryant (expected), Kintzler, and dare I say... ALBERTOS!

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 6-1-19

DSL opens too, Cubs carrrying two teams and it looks like Jose Lopez is the highest profile guy on an OD roster Yup. Both pitchers, Gallardo and Machado are staying in ExST, at least for now, while Lopez (1.5 mill), Yohendrick Pinango (400,000) and Rafael Morel (850,000) are in the DSL. Guys moving...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 5-29-19

AAA is a joke right now but who cares; so is MLB. Feels like he will get a shot this year. No kidding. Out of Contreras, Baez, Rizzo, Bryant, Schwarber, Bote, Almora, Heyward and Russell, only 3 have more doubles than HRs. And there are currently 7 I-Cubs who have done the same. (In case some of yo...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 5-27-19

As AZ Phil reported, Albertos is in better shape this year. He's definitely lost weight. https://i.imgur.com/W8rvqyt.png https://imgur.com/a4DUjtO.png In the 6th, he struck out the first batter he faced on his above average change up. His FB was reported between 91-95, mostly 94. The only hit he gav...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 5-27-19

Alzolay's curve was devasting to the Marlins' AAA hitters. (The obvious joke here is that the Marlins AAA team is in the majors so he was actually facing a AA team today, but the Babycakes have some decent prospects in their line up like Austin Dean, Lewis Brinson, Isan Diaz, Monte Harrison, etc.) T...

Alzolay’s line 6 innings 2 hits 1 run 1bb 9k 79 pitches 57 strikes 5-4 go-fo Rucker’s Iowa debut 2 innings 1 hit 0 run 2bb 1k 24-12, 4-0 go-fo It's good to see Alzolay re-establish himself as the best pitching prospect in the organization. That's not saying much in this system, but the list of &quo...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 5-27-19

It might be time to start talking about what Vimael Machin is doing at Tennessee. As a 25 year old, he's definitely overage. He's progressed through the minors with strong plate discipline, good contact and no power. He had half a season at AA last year and did...okay. But this year, he's walking n...

Re: Nico: Hairline fracture, out at least another month

I don't think the Cubs are trading top prospects to upgrade the team for a couple reasons: 1.) We don't have a top rated farm system 2.) We didn't really replenish the farm system with IFA signings + draft picks 3.) The Cubs got incredible value from journeyman Jesse Chavez (and Cole Hamels) last y...

Alzolay is scheduled to start for Iowa today, and Alexander Vargas is starting for Myrtle Beach. Speaking of, the Vargas acquisition completely flew under my Cubdar. When did he come on board?
